  • Patent number: 7424586
Abstract: When copying data, it is desired to securely execute data management by preventing violation of rules or leaking out of secret information by administrative error. For this purpose, in a data processing method, for each storage area such as a volume in a storage device or a logical volume, a possible data arrangement range of data included in the storage area is stored. In addition, range information is defined for a copy-destination storage area. Then, when copying data in a storage area, a judgment is made as to whether or not the range information of the copy-destination storage area is within the possible data arrangement area of the data. If the range information is within the possible data arrangement area, copying will be executed. If the range information is not within the possible arrangement area, the copy processing will not be initiated.

  • Patent number: 7424475
Abstract: This invention addresses to execute an emergency access interception in a widely distributed environment. An access controller 100 manages an access control list (ACL) 110 recording access right to each object, and a black list (BL) 120 recording user information corresponding to the emergency access interception. The access controller 100 receives a request for authentication to access right and judges whether or not the access right is proper, first according to the BL 120 then ACL110. In case where the user information corresponding to the request is recorded in the BL 120, the access controller 100 sends out the user information to other access controllers and instructs them to register it in the black list. This invention effectively actualizes the emergency access interception under the widely distributed environment in case where the interception is required for any user.

  • Patent number: 7424575
Abstract: In a storage system having a first storage control apparatus and a second storage control apparatus, the first storage control apparatus has: a first memory; a second memory; an input/output control unit for data transfer information in the second memory; and a data transfer control unit having a data buffer and a data transfer register for controlling data transfer between the first memory and second storage control apparatus based on the data transfer information read from the second memory and written in the data transfer register. When a second data transfer is controlled while a first data transfer is controlled, the data transfer control unit writes the first data transfer information and data stored in the data buffer into the second memory, reads the second data transfer information from the second memory and writes the second data transfer information into the data transfer register to control the second data transfer.

  • Patent number: 7424536
Abstract: A computer system is structured, including a plurality of computers sharing a storage apparatus. The computers each include a control section for determining an access priority based on an attribute of a client computer forwarding an access request. In the control section, the result derived by adding up the priorities is compared with the total value of the priorities calculated by other computers for assignment of an input/output bandwidth. In accordance with the priority assignment, access execution is performed in order of priority. With such a structure, access congestions can be favorably avoided through efficient bandwidth control, and bandwidth assignment can be performed on a server basis in accordance with processes executed by the client computers.

  • Patent number: 7424607
Abstract: To restrict actions such as spoofing and thereby prevent tapping and leakages of data by certifying whether or not each communication device such as a storage device on a communication line is to be connected to the communication line. Upon receipt of a packet that contains an IP address in its IP header and stores a certificate in its certificate payload from a storage device 300, an authentication device 200 compares an IP address that is recorded in the certificate and the IP address that is recorded on the IP header of the packet. If the comparison results in a match of these IP addresses, the authentication device 200 can certify that the storage device 300 is a device for which a certificate issuing device 100 has properly issued the certificate.

  • Patent number: 7424585
Abstract: The present invention achieves data relocation in accordance with a user's policies, in an environment where a plurality of storage devices are combined. The volumes belonging to storage devices A-D are managed virtually integrally. A host recognizes a plurality of storage devices A-D as a single virtual storage device. The user is able to group the volumes belonging to the storage system, as a plurality of storage layers 1-3. For example, storage layer 1 can be defined as a high-reliability layer, storage layer 2, as a low-cost layer, and storage layer 3, as an archive layer. Each storage layer is constituted by a group of volumes corresponding to respective policies (high reliability, low cost, archiving). The user designates volumes to be moved V1 and V2, in group units, and indicates a storage layer forming a movement destination, whereby the data is relocated.

  • Patent number: 7421456
Abstract: A storage system carries out database reorganization processing. In a method of reorganizing, a database which is stored in a disk drive of a storage device is reorganized. The disk drive contains a first volume where the database is stored and a second volume paired with the first volume to store a copy of the database. The reorganization method includes the steps of: making transactions from the host computer into a quiescent state; splitting the paired first volume and second volume so as to only allow the database in the first volume to be accessed; releasing the quiescent state of the transactions; reorganizing the second volume; and copying data in the second volume to the first volume to resynchronize and pair the first volume and the second volume with each other.

  • Patent number: 7421553
Abstract: Under a hetero-environment in which different sorts of disk-systems are mixed with each other, a data guaranteeing operation can be carried out. When a cache controller of a local disk system receives a data writing request from a host computer, the cache controller stores data into a local disk provided in a disk device group. The data received from the host computer is also transmitted to a remote disk system and is stored in a remote disk. The data stored in the remote disk is immediately read, and the data written in the remote disk is compared with the data written in the local disk. As a result, since a data guarantee operation on the remote side is processed by the local disk system instead of the remote disk system, a data guaranteeing operation when a remote copying operation is performed can be carried out even in the storage system under a hetero-environment.
