Abstract: The invention relates to flush valves in which an external operating handle is eliminated. An electronic sensor, solenoid valve and a solenoid contained within a single unit to operate a flush valve are provided which is either built into the flush valve or can be retrofitted to a conventional flush valve with an external operating handle. The solenoid valve can also be controlled by external means separate and apart from the infra-red sensor mechanism.

Abstract: This invention provides apparatus for creating circulation of liquid in a vertical direction within a standing body of such liquid, using a gas bubble generator, without creating excessive turbulence at the surface of the liquid, thus avoiding the formation of foam. A preferred embodiment of this apparatus provides for a vertically extending stackpipe, a gas bubble generator at a lower portion of the stackpipe and means for delivering gas bubbles under pressure to the stackpipe, and, at the upper portion of the stackpipe adjacent the upper discharge opening, means designed to laterally divert a flow of liquid and entrained gas bubbles into a substantially horizontal direction, to cause separation of the gas and liquid and to discharge the gas to a location above the level of the surface of the body of liquid.
Abstract: The technique for optically scanning a finger to produce a fingerprint image involves positioning the finger surface to be optically scanned so that it is exposed and, in particular, is not pressed against a platen. A slit light beam along the length of the forward part of the finger is circumferentially rotated about an axis about the nominal center of the finger. A reflected slit light beam carries modulation information which is focused on a linear array of photo-electric transducers to provide the fingerprint image. The interrogating light is coherent, substantially collimated, light. The plane of the interrogating slit light beam and the plane of the reflected modulated slit light beam are coplanar thereby establishing an illumination plane. The illumination plane is parallel to the axis of the finger and is rotated about that axis during the interrogating scan.
Abstract: The invention relates to a system transmitting special signals and data between a computer center and an appliance which is able to receive and record independently video and/or audio programs produced by television or radio companies.The system has two inter-related components: data-acquisition system which helps the user in the scheduling task, and an additional real time start/stop recording system. The data-acquisition system includes a computer center, an interactive data network to which is connected a modem. The modem is connected through an interface to the timer of the videorecorder, and also to a terminal with a screen and a keyboard. Special codes are sent by the computer center to the interface in order that the timer is scheduled to record the programs that the user have selected while accessing to the computer center. Among the codes are included special identification codes used by the real time start/stop system and which are defined by the computer.
Abstract: Disclosed are a process and apparatus for the treatment of such fluids as ter and effluents by ultra-filtration and electrolysis, useful in particular for the continuous recovery and separation of metallic cations from diluted solutions of their salts and to the softening of water. The apparatus comprises a casing, an ultra-filtration membrane separating the casing into two compartments; a cathode and an anode are respectively housed in two inner compartments separated by an ultra-filtration membrane. The cathodic compartment is connected to an inlet and to an outlet for fluid to be treated, while the anodic compartment is connected to an outlet for the permeate.

Abstract: A reservoir assembly (10) which has transversely extending frame assemblies (11) which support opposed side walls (12/12a). The frame assemblies (11) each have wall supporting members (15) integral with a relatively lightweight base member (16) which extends beneath the bottom wall of the reservoir. A pressure pad (18) disposed centrally above the base member (16) and beneath the bottom wall prevents upward buckling of the base member (16).
Abstract: A curved cylindrical segment platen has a concave touching surface. An interrogating slit light beam is scanned around the platen to scan a finger held against the touching surface. An optical imaging system images the zone illuminated onto an array of photo-transducers to provide a signal representing the fingerprint. The optical system is rotated around the platen. The axis of the interrogating light beam is substantially normal to the touching surface. The axis of the imaging system is off normal by about 56 degrees, an amount which is greater than a critical angle equal to the maximum angle of refraction in the platen. This critical angle is approximately 41 degrees. The axis of the imaging system is also off normal to the non-touching surface by an angle that is less than this critical angle of 41 degrees and thus less than the angle of total internal reflection. As a consequence, the image at the photo-transducers provides a completely dark valley zone and a sharply contrasting light image ridge zone.

Abstract: A portable stationery device having a punching device disposed in a lower portion of a holder and a stapler disposed in an upper portion of the holder above the punching device. The stapler can be freely drawn out from or retracted into the holder. When the punching device is used to punch a sheet of paper a punching rod of the punching device is pressed by the stapler.

Abstract: A container for beverages for use with a beverage dispensing apparatus. The container is also provided with a cover which controls the heat content of the liquid supplied to the container and contains a substance suitable to be dissolved in water. The container and cover are each provided with mating flanges, and the cover includes elements cooperating with the water supply. A dispensing unit is provided which includes a cylinder forming a sleeve for the containers during use, an inner cylinder forming two chambers suitable for forming a housing for the corresponding containers, and a water supply head equipped with several ports for hot water and a separate port for cold water.

Abstract: A resinous product is disclosed which possesses a resinous surface coatable with a layer of metal which can be bonded through an array of microdendrites extending below the resinous surface. The resinous products are prepared by coating the surface of a metal plate with microdendrites, pressing the microdendrite covered metal surface into the resinous surface, curing the resin and stripping away the plate to leave the microdendrites embedded in the cured resinous surface. The embedded microdendrites are dissolved away to produce a micro-rough resinous surface having an array of microdendrite-shaped cavities. The resinous product can be used for printed circuits and the like.
Abstract: A preparation for the hygiene and the cleaning of skin, scalp and hair, essentially comprising an emulsifying agent and a thickening agent consisting of organic substances forming with the water gels or colloidal solutions. Such a preparation is endowed with a mild and delicate cleaning action, and is surprisingly lacking of any irritating effect.
Abstract: A clothing article surrounds a wearer's upper torso. The article includes connected front and back portions, a collar, and sleeves. A pocket is formed in the back portion. The pocket has a closable opening which is spaced from the upper edge. A scarf is connected to the upper inner portion of the pocket. The pocket is shaped and dimensioned to neatly receive the scarf in folded condition when the wearer does not desire to use the scarf. The scarf is easily removable through the pocket opening so that it can be unfolded and worn around a wearer's neck.
Abstract: An integrated modular store fixture system has at least two spaced apart parallel vertical members at the rear of the system with side surfaces facing each other and having a series of aligned holes therein. A display assembly or a pull-out tray assembly is engageable with holes into members for holding merchandise to be displayed at the front of the system. The assemblies include two side support elements, each extending from the rear to the front of the system when in the mounted position with one end at the rear having members projecting transverse to the support elements and each projecting member inserted into one hole in one vertical member. The side support elements are releasably retained in the mounted position by a horizontal elongated stretcher member having downwardly depending pins and which are slidably received in tubular members on each support element. A tray or J-hook is mounted on the support elements for holding merchandise to be displayed.
