  • Patent number: 4686011
Abstract: Method for the protection and/or monitoring of a reference system with reference electrode in analytical measuring techniques, and reference system therefor, wherein an additional monitor electrode is provided for self-monitoring the outer bridge electrolyte (16) for contamination, the additional monitor electrode being arranged to permit measuring of the pH value (pX value) of the bridge electrolyte which is adjusted to the same pH value (pX value) as the reference electrolyte. A fault signal is released when a potential difference occurs between the additional electrode and the real reference electrode of the reference system. Further, the bridge electrolyte is preferably connected with the measured solution in pressure-balancing relationship via a flexible diaphragm arranged in the wall of the vessel containing the bridge electrolyte which diaphragm may also be designed to serve as mounting for the said first diaphragm.

  • Patent number: 4685145
Abstract: A gray scale image of a fingerprint composed of a field of pixels is converted to a binary image composed of a field of pixels by a technique which takes into account the directivity of the ridge and valley structure. Three intermediate binary images are developed, one by the use of a vertical filter, one by the use of a horizontal filter and a reference image by the use of a filter which is not directionally biased. Corresponding subfields around each pixel in each of the three images are compared. If the subfield for the vertically derived image is closer to that of the reference image then is the subfield for the horizontally derived image, then the binary value for the pixel from the vertically derived image is used in the final image; and vice versa. In this fashion, a fourth a final binary image is derived from a combination of the vertically derived image and horizontally derived image which includes the best imagery from each of those two intermediate images.

  • Patent number: 4680838
Abstract: One or the female part of two releasably connected parts has a recess, cavity or the like, the second or male part is a couterpart insertable therein. Engaging elements are formed by at least one layer of elastic, vertically extending bristles, short fibers or the like, which are preferably electrostatically flocculated and engage on an uneven counterface. The face or faces provided with elastic bristles or the like as well as the counterface or counterfaces extend parallel to the moving directions of the two parts. In a preferred embodiment, the uneven counterface is a second layer of elastic, vertically extending bristles, short fibers or the like. During displacement in one direction, the bristles are moved into inclined positions and have to follow every change of direction. Thereby, a resistance has to be overcome, the resistance reaching a maximum in a change of direction of 180.degree., i.e.

  • Patent number: 4680827
Abstract: In a vacuum cleaner for industry and household in which the speed control for the blower motor for the vacuum cleaner is effected by evaluating the dust concentration given at any time in the suction line by opto-electrical means (light transmitters, light receivers) it is proposed to use the signal pulses, which are derived from the light receivers depending on the measured dust particles, for controlling an additional light transmitter (luminous diode) which directly coacts with a light-sensitive resistor which is at the same time part of the control resistance of a triac connected in the motor circuit of the blower motor. Preferably, the optoelectrical dust concentration measuring arrangement may comprise a plurality of light transmitters and light receivers and may be arranged directly adjacent to the air intake opening of a vacuum cleaner housing.

  • Patent number: 4682142
Abstract: A rotary potentiometer is provided with a switch, preferably as a final control element for the control of electrical machinery. An enclosed, prefabricated rotary potentiometer component with its own casing is inserted in a cup-shaped upper casing that is open on one side. Switching contact supports are housed in the upper casing by means of peripheral wall sections. These contact supports are actuated by a cam actuating member that is mounted on a fulcrum pin so as to permit play and simultaneously also effect rotation and retention of the potentiometer component in the upper casing.

  • Patent number: 4679524
Abstract: An apparatus for coating a vertically travelling web comprises a vertical coating chamber defined by the web, a pair of side walls, a back wall spaced from the web, and a flexible blade applied against the web and forming a top closure of the coating chamber. There is a back-up member at the opposite side of the web forming a coating nip together with the flexible blade, through which nip the web passes. A slot at the bottom of the coating chamber forms a web entrance of the coating chamber. The width of the slot and the supply of coating substance to the coating chamber are so adapted to the speed of the web and to the viscosity of the coating substance, that only a small amount of coating substance flows downwardly through the slot during normal operation of the apparatus. The side walls of the coating chamber provide means for substantially closing the coating chamber.

  • Patent number: 4679796
Abstract: A game in which players gain points by correctly solving problems depicted on cards in a chart-like format. The cards are divided into three cards sets according to three different levels of difficulty. Six vertical columns each having a plurality of slots for receiving chips are used for keeping track of each player's score. Each player is assigned a vertical column. The six vertical columns are each divided into three areas corresponding to the three card sets. Players progress during the game by correctly solving problems and inserting chips. The card set from which a players must choose a card is determined by the column area the player has progressed to. The first player to earn a predetermined number of points wins the game. The solution to each problem and clues to aid in solving each problem are provided.
