Abstract: A system and method for determining the language of an unknown document is provided. For a set of candidate languages, a negative assumption is set for each candidate language that the document is not that language and the system attempts to prove the negative assumption is wrong. If the negative assumption fails for one language, then the document is identified as being in that language. The present system and method provides a higher degree of accuracy when determining the language of a document.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to a product display. The product display can hold printed materials, literature, and other goods. The product display is a one-piece construction that is flat when it is in an unassembled position. In the assembled position, the product display includes a front panel section, a bottom section connected to the front panel section, and a back section connected to the bottom section. The front panel section connects to the back section either directly or by way of a brace section on the front panel. The product display includes an opening in the panel that holds products in an upright manner. Preferably, one of the bottom panel, back panel or brace section includes a flap. The present product display does not require an added on or formed pocket that extends outwardly from the panel.

Abstract: An exercise device comprising a base and a platform rotatably tiltably connected to the base, wherein the invention includes a first continuous passive motion embodiment and a second continuous active motion embodiment. The continuous passive motion exercise device (e.g. non-motorized) may utilize the nested engagement of a concave surface located in the base and a convex surface extending from the platform to provide a rotatable tiltable connection therebetween. The device may also utilize at least one roller bearing located within the base to assist in permitting the rotatable tiltable motion of the platform relative to the base. The continuous active motion exercise device (e.g. motorized) utilizes a motor housed within the base to drive the rotatably tiltably connected platform.

Abstract: Fluid transmission devices combine and separate fluid flowing therein, and are particularly useful in engine exhaust systems. Given the ever-increasing complexity of exhaust systems, there is a need to reduce construction costs, labor costs, and costs associated with maintaining an inventory of parts. The present fluid transmission device and method of manufacturing comprises a tubular member having a wall, an integral flow redirection member, and an opening. The integral flow redirection member is formed from the wall by cutting a slit in the wall and depressing the wall adjacent the slit until at least a portion of the wall extends within the tubular member. The opening is also formed from depressing the wall. Finally, the flow direction member redirects at least a portion of fluid flow traveling within the tubular member through the opening.

Abstract: A fluid jet for providing fluid under pressure to a desired location is disclosed wherein the valve body includes and integral valve element retaining region. Preferably, the valve body and integral valve element retaining region are die cast as a one-piece component. More specifically, the fluid jet includes a die cast one-piece valve body having a valve element retaining region extending longitudinally within at least a portion of the valve body, at least one fluid passage extending longitudinally within at least a portion of the valve body and in fluid communication with at least a portion of the valve element retaining region, and at least one fluid-exiting aperture through the valve body in fluid communication with the at least one fluid passage.

Abstract: A surge brake actuator is disclosed. The actuator includes an actuator housing and a coupler housing movably engaged within the actuator housing. Upper and lower coupler slide channels formed from a plastic material are releasably connected to the coupler housing and contact the actuator housing. The plastic coupler slide channels reduce frictional loss and provides superior brake actuation output when the coupler housing retracts into the actuator housing during braking. The surge brake actuator includes a push rod assembly that also provides superior brake actuation output to the actuator and can engage the actuator during a breakaway event. The surge brake actuator includes a releasably engagable reverse lock that prevents brake actuation while the towing vehicle moves in reverse.

Abstract: A differential pressure transducer which incorporates a Fabry-Perot sensor for direct quantitative measurements of the distance displaced by a piston abutting two pressure boundaries is described. The apparatus includes a piston with an annular protrusion which is fitted into a transducer housing having a peripheral groove that serves as a stop to prevent damage to the in overpressure situations. A method of measuring differential pressure using a Fabry-Perot sensor is also contemplated.

Abstract: Vehicle accessory mounting systems are limited in the accessories mountable thereto and interfere with the use of the bed. The present invention, however, is a vehicle accessory mounting system that comprises a frame assembly having an opening and a locking cavity being in communication with the opening, and at least one accessory mounting member capable of being removably mounted within the opening to removably mount an accessory to a vehicle. The accessory mounting member comprises a body, a locking element aperture within the body, and a locking element held within the aperture, the locking element being moveable between a retracted, unlocked position wherein the locking element does not engage the locking cavity and an extended, unlocked position wherein the locking element engages the locking cavity to prevent removal of the mounting member from within the opening.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a trailer hitch receiver including a cross member, a first mounting flange carried on the cross member between the midpoint and a first end thereof and a second mounting flange carried on the cross member between the midpoint and a second end thereof. The trailer hitch receiver also includes a pair of opposed mounting brackets. Each of the opposed mounting brackets includes a first mounting arrangement or series of apertures that secures the mounting brackets to the cross member in a first position and a second mounting arrangement or second set of mounting apertures for securing the mounting brackets to the main frame member in a second position.

Abstract: Mechanically locked strikers have a base, a striker bar, and a locking arm which extends from the base to the striker bar. In one embodiment the striker bar and locking arm are formed integrally with the base, with the striker bar extending from the base at one point or area, and the locking arm mechanically attached to the base at another point or area. Alternatively, the locking arm may extend from the base at one point or area, and the striker bar is mechanically attached to the base at another point or area. In another embodiment, the striker bar and locking arm are each mechanically locked to the base. A segment of the locking arm forms a bridge over the base, defining a throat for engagement of a latch about the striker bar.

Abstract: A foldable ramp having an improved hinge construction to increase load capacity. The foldable ramp overcomes the disadvantages of the prior art by providing a ramp having a first ramp section and a second ramp section, pivotable relative to each other between a folded storage position and an open working position wherein the ramp sections are prevented from pivoting to a coplanar position relative to each other in the working position so as to increase load capacity.

Abstract: A striker assembly for latch engagement has a striker piece and a striker mount which encapsulates a portion of the striker piece to secure and mount the striker piece on a structure for engagement with a latch. In one embodiment, the striker mount is formed by a pair of cooperating base pieces which include a mounting plate and a striker plate. The base pieces form a striker-receiving cavity for encapsulating a portion of the striker. Alternate forms of striker pieces and striker mounts are also described and claimed.

Abstract: A dual pumping element fluid system for an engine or other system which reduces the driving power consumption by unloading one pumping element through the use of recirculation when a fluid pressure target value is achieved. A cross-over port fluid system prevents cavitation of the unloaded pump. A pressure-activated flow control valve mechanism is utilized to open and close the passageways from the secondary pump. The fluid system works in conjunction with an engine balance shaft system to control gear rattle at low speeds without adding undue gear loads at high speeds.

Abstract: Disclosed is a fastener and method for temporarily fastening a plurality of workpieces. The fastener uses pressurized fluid to facilitate the actuating clamping motion of a temporary fastener as opposed to conventional mechanically actuation devices. The fastener of the present invention generally comprises a housing, a spreader member connected to the housing, a piston located within said housing and capable of movement therein in response to the introduction of pressurized fluid within the housing, and a pair of expandable flexible fingers connected at one end to the piston and extending outside the housing where fluid-actuated movement of the piston causes the fingers to partially retract within the housing and wedge within the aligned apertures of the workpieces to temporarily clamp the workpieces together. A check valve within the piston assembly prevents the escape of pressurized fluid from within the fluid pressure chamber when the source of pressurized fluid is removed.

Abstract: A method of providing a sound file to a voice gateway for coupling the voice gateway to a receiver via a voice based telephony connection. The method includes the steps of establishing a connection to the voice gateway, dividing the sound file into smaller files with a reduced size, altering the sound file header to reflect the smaller files size. The altered file header is attached at the beginning of the smaller files. The smaller files are converted into a format usable by the voice gateway. The converted smaller files are then coupled through to the voice gateway, for playback by a user.

Abstract: Urine samples are made free of potentially interfering substances, such as alkaloids or pharmaceuticals, by contacting the urine sample with an amount of a chemical oxidizing agent in a disposable oxidation bag, while retaining the physical indicia characteristic of urine to allow the sample to be further tested.
