  • Patent number: 6997642
Abstract: The invention is a system for managing a plurality of areas of interest of a golf course. The system comprises a plurality of electromechanical subsystems and a programmable master control module. Each subsystem provides to a specific area at least one of air under pressure and a partial vacuum. In each area of interest, a local control module is responsive to a directive and to a datum. The local control module is configured to operate the subsystem and is in communication with the programmable master control module. The programmable master control module receives from at least two of the plurality of local control modules information representing a status of the respective specific area to which the local control module is dedicated, and in response to the information and to a command, the programmable master control module issues a directive to the local control module to operate the electromechanical subsystem.

  • Patent number: 6971840
Abstract: A fan is modified by replacing its rigid rotor shaft by a flexible shaft so the normal operating speed range is above the first transverse critical speed. During run-up, the assembly of the fan impeller 12 and the drive shaft 11 is accelerated rapidly through the first critical speed at which the peak transverse vibrations could be encountered, and during run-down the shaft 11 is braked to minimize the same exposure to transverse vibrations. The use of a more flexible fan drive shaft of smaller diameter, allows a higher fan operating speed to be used without risk of detrimental shaft aerodynamic chokage effects, and the utilization of the existing fan foundation.

  • Patent number: 6925377
Abstract: A tunnel monitoring system for monitoring vehicles traveling through a tunnel having at least one vehicle traffic lane is disclosed comprising a plurality of ultrasonic sensors arranged in series in a longitudinal direction of the tunnel. The sensors have a detection zone covering a portion of the traffic lane for detecting the presence of a vehicle in the detection zone, and the ultrasonic sensors generate a vehicle sensor signal upon detecting a vehicle in the detection zone and a sensor identification signal identifying which sensor the sensor signal is transmitted from. The detection zones are projected and arranged in relation to the traffic lane to provide a generally continuous detection of the vehicles traveling though the tunnel. An evaluation unit receives the vehicle sensor signals and the sensor identification signals for monitoring traffic in the tunnel.

  • Patent number: 6758975
Abstract: An automated peritoneal dialysis system for performing continuous peritoneal dialysis is disclosed which includes a fluid circuit for delivering unsterilized dialysate from an uninterrupted supply, and a dialysate sterilization component having at least one in-line sterilization filter assembly disposed in the inflow line segment for realtime sterilization of the unsterilized dialysate during flow prior to patient delivery. A filter test component is operatively associated with the sterilization filter assembly for conducting a realtime integrity test on the filter assembly to test for a filter failure which would allow contaminants into the dialysate prior to patient delivery. If the filter fails the test, the fluid is discarded. In this manner, sterilization of fluid in realtime during a peritoneal dialysis process provides a high rate of dialysate exchange during repeated dialysate fill and drain cycles.

  • Patent number: 6749147
Abstract: A friction winding shaft for roll cutting and winding machines in which the shaft frictionally engages tubular winding cores for winding of strip-shaped bands or similar items. A plurality of winding rings adjoin each other as disposed on a central drive shaft. In addition spring-biased winding core holders protrude from and are distributed over the outer ring surface in the form of clamping elements. The clamping elements are seated in recesses of the rings and are capable of pivoting around axes that are parallel to the friction winding shaft axis. The recesses are provided with stop surfaces which limit the pivoting movement of the clamping elements. In order to further increase the application possibilities of the friction winding shaft the recesses are sized and arranged in such manner that the clamping elements, in their center positions, form a circular curve in which the clamping element tips have a diameter dt greater than dw the inside diameter of the winding core.
