  • Patent number: 3989434
Abstract: Mixing means in the form of a torpedo for an injection molding machine having a plurality of alternately isolated and intersecting flow paths for repeatedly dividing and recombining material flow streams to achieve uniform properties throughout the material. The paths are formed as right and left-hand helical channels on the circumference of the torpedo body, with the helixes of one hand having a pitch different from that of the other such that the flow paths intersect in a pattern which is bilaterally asymmetrical with respect to an axial net flow direction. The nonsymmetrical arrangement is formed to provide substantially greater mixing action than that obtainable with similar symmetrical arrangements.

  • Patent number: 3984132
Abstract: A unitary tubular fitting body and cooperating mandrel for installation on a blind wall. The body includes an axially collapsible tube portion which during installation draws up the body into alignment with the wall. The body includes a frangible ring dimensioned to fail after adequate compression force is applied on the collapsing tube portion for full sealing engagement with the wall. Failure of the ring releases the mandrel and prevents overtightening of the fitting.BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTIONThe invention relates to a tubular fitting and method for its installation, and, more specifically, to a fitting and method particularly suited for use where access to only one side of a wall is available.PRIOR ARTIt is often desirable to mechanically secure a tubular fitting in fluid-tight relation to a hole in an otherwise imperforate wall to provide communication between zones on opposite sides of the wall.

  • Patent number: 3981983
Abstract: A radiochemical ligand binding assay for methotrexate is provided. A binder factor comprising a partially purified dihydrofolic acid reductase preparation is employed. The binder factor is conveniently prepared by homogenizing a factor containing animal organ such as liver, and extracting with isotonic saline and ammonium sulfate. A binder cofactor, NADPH.sub.2, is also employed in the binding reaction. The procedure contemplates both direct and sequential assay techniques, and it is not interfered with by vast excesses of many natural folate derivatives.

  • Patent number: 3979245
Abstract: An insulating blanket is disclosed in which a semi-rigid mat of glass fibers is bonded on one side to a facing material. Lateral cuts are formed in the mat extending from the opposite side thereof toward the side on which the facing is bonded. Such cuts allow the facing to bend with a hinge-like manner when the insulating blanket is rolled, permitting the lamination of the facing and mat and the rolling of the laminate prior to the setting of the adhesive. The preferred method and apparatus for forming such insulating blanket is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 3978538
Abstract: A method and apparatus for forming shouldered tubular rivets is disclosed in which three forming operations are provided, two of which are performed in a single die station. In the first operation, the head end of the blank is squared and the inner end is trapped extruded. In the second operation, both the shoulder and the inner end of the blank are squared. During such second operation, the volume required to form the entire shank is confined within the die and the projecting portion of the blank is headed so that variations in blank volume appear as variations in the head. In the last or third operation, the tubular section is extruded on the inner end of the blank. An apparatus for performing the method is disclosed which permits the accurate positioning of a sleeve and an extrusion pin with respect to the die during the second operation to insure proper squaring of the inner end of the blank and the confinement of the exact volume of material required to form the entire shank of the rivet.

  • Patent number: 3975059
Abstract: A motor vehicle hydraulic brake system includes a front brake circuit and a rear brake circuit. The rear brake circuit includes a blend back proportioning valve which controls the pressure in the rear brake circuit. The blend back proportioning valve includes a proportioning piston which cooperates with a valve seat to maintain increases in rear brake pressure proportional to but less than increases in master cylinder pressure between a first predetermined pressure and a second predetermined pressure. A blend back spool moves the valve seat away from the proportioning piston to equalize master cylinder pressure and rear brake pressure when the second predetermined pressure is reached.

  • Patent number: 3974910
Abstract: A piston and cylinder actuator is disclosed embodying means to control the acceleration and deceleration of the piston as it approaches the ends of its stroke. Such actuator is also disclosed as an intermittent drive for a machine system in which at least part of the drive connection is provided by a friction drive. The acceleration and deceleration control is arranged to prevent slippage in the drive. The acceleration and deceleration control includes a land positioned on each side of the piston, each formed with a plurality of axially spaced orifices. As the piston approaches one end of its stroke, one land projects through an associated seal which operates to progressively isolate the orifices from the main chamber to control deceleration. Such orifices are progressively uncovered as the piston moves away from its end position, and in one embodiment provides controlled acceleration.

  • Patent number: 3972991
Abstract: There is provided a rapid and less costly radioisotopic assay for measuring the concentration of folate in blood serum. This procedure utilizes .sup.3 H-pteroylmonoglutamate, unlabeled 5-methyl-tetrahydrofolic acid, and a partially purified folate binder, such as for example a folate binder extracted from hog kidney. The procedure involves radioisotopically relating the bound amounts of a labeled folate and a known folate at various concentrations of the known folate in a system containing a predetermined amount of the labeled folate, a predetermined amount of the binder factor for the folates, and a predetermined amount of defolated test serum.

  • Patent number: 3972213
Abstract: A thread-rolling head comprises three crank-like support pieces, each bearing a thread roller, protruding from a support member in which they are mounted. A control member is held unrotatably on the support member while a bearing member held in front of the support member is rotatable and stop means are operative between the bearing and the support member to transmit to the latter a torque received from the workpiece through the thread rollers; the stop means is rendered inoperative when the bearing means is caused by the workpiece to move forwardly, whereby the torque will aid a spring in rotating the bearing member to pivot the support pieces in order to remove the thread rollers from the workpiece.

  • Patent number: 3972211
Abstract: A control system is disclosed for a hot forging machine which is supplied with lengths of stock. The system provides automatic rejection of workpieces cut from the rearward end of one length of stock and the forward end of a subsequent length of stock. The system includes a sensor which laterally deflects the rearward end of a length of stock as such rearward end approaches a control point to produce a signal to reset the system. As the forward end of the subsequent length of stock passes the control point, a second signal is generated to actuate the stock movement measuring system. Stock movement is measured by a measuring roller which engages and is turned by the stock as it moves toward the cutter. The rotation of the measuring roller drives a pulse generator which supplies a signal to a counter.
