  • Patent number: 6406190
Abstract: A joint type disc cage of a roller bearing in which a joint is provided at a sheared part of the disc cage so as to fit it into a single-pieced outer or inner race of the roller bearing. Owing to the joint structure of the sheared part of the disc cage, the installation of the disc cage can be easily carried out, and the installed disc cage is maintained in a circular form, so that the function of the disc cage becomes superior, and deformations, abrasions and degradations of the disc cage can be prevented, as well as ensuring the durability and safety of the roller bearing. The disc cage 1 is sheared at one place to form a sheared part 2 which forms two joint end portions 2a and 2b, so as to install the disc cage 1 into an annular installing groove 5 of the outer or inner race 4 and 4a of the roller bearing. The joint end portions 2a and 2b of the sheared part 2 are firmly engagedly coupled together, and therefore, actually the disc cage 1 performs like a non-sheared disc cage.

  • Patent number: 6402965
Abstract: Ballast water is treated by applying ultrasonic frequencies to the water to kill organisms entrained in the water such as diatoms, veligers, fish larvae, plankton, and microorganisms, preventing the introduction of non-indigenous species between ports-of-call. The ballast water is circulated through a ballast treatment system. A pump is connected to a tube lined with a piezoelectric material for aiding in transmitting the ultrasonic frequencies connected to one or more ballast tanks of a ship. The use of the piezoelectric material as a lining allows a broad range of sound wavelengths and energy levels to be transmitted greater distances before problems with uniform sound penetration and energy loss within the sound field occur. Additionally, spatially-controllable, continuous constructive interference zones may be generated within the piezoelectric-lined tubes to specifically target the particular organisms entrained within the ballast water being treated.

  • Patent number: 6401920
Abstract: Discs are held locked in a tray by flex arms with disc-retaining extensions overlying inner peripheral areas adjacent the central opening of the uppermost disc. A push button is held within a disc-centering boss. Lock tab detents extending from the push button hold the push button above an inner edge of an annular shelf on the centering boss. The push button is connected to the flex arms with goose neck connectors. Pressing inward on the flex arms tends to move the goose necks to draw the push button downward. In the locked, tamper-evident position, the lock tabs prevent the push button from moving downward, and thus hold the disc-retaining extensions over inner surface areas of the disc.

  • Patent number: 6391107
Abstract: Within the known Müller-Kühne process and a corresponding installation, a utilization of a great variety of residual materials can be achieved with optimum process control, both in regard to the production of a raw powder and the fuel, whereby this is made possible in particular in that the raw powder components and the fuel components also are, with respect to the residual materials being used, stored separately, conditioned, and then mixed according to the formulation under strict monitoring. The flue gas is used for preheating the raw powder by adding the cold raw powder to it. This simultaneously removes sticky components from the flue gas. The raw powder preheated in this manner, and also the raw powder or dust recovered in subsequent dedusters are returned to the rotary drum kiln, whereby the solid and other fuels are used and burned with a mutually supportive flame at the opposite end of the rotary drum kiln.

  • Patent number: 6383056
Abstract: A plane constructed shaft system used to replace the cylindrical shaft in precision polishing apparatuses. Thus, the accuracy, productivity and cost of polishing apparatuses are improved. The shaft system has a four-surface hollow prism bushing and a four-surface prism shaft that can slide freely within the bushing. The polishing pressure is maintained by the weights of the shaft plus the parts attached to the shaft, but this pressure can be reduced by adjusting a load adjusting nut which compresses a loading spring acting on a collar stop attached to the shaft. The actual polishing pressure can be calculated according to the position of the load adjusting nut. Furthermore, the stock removal amount can be controlled by a stock removal stop ring which is mounted on the collar stop and can be adjusted up and down as required.

  • Patent number: 6375621
Abstract: The instrument monitors the acoustic and electromechanical signals of the patient and calculates an energy spectrum periodogram or histogram using time series analysis techniques. The patient lies down on a large piezoelectric film (few microns thick) that has the capability of measuring signals from very high to very low frequencies. The heart and respiration rates as well as obstructive apnea can be observed, detected and measured from the spectral peaks in the resulting energy spectrum. A microcomputing machine provides calculations to determine the energy spectrum and provides for discrimination between noise and a true apnea episode. An alarm calls for assistance in the event of an apnea, including obstructive apnea, or a Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) episode.

  • Patent number: 6375271
Abstract: Breaking hard compact materials, such as rock and concrete, is based upon a controlled-fracturing process. A high-pressure foam is used to pressurize a predrilled hole of appropriate geometry. The high-pressure foam is delivered to the bottom of the drilled hole by a barrel inserted into the hole. The barrel includes a seal near the bottom of the hole. By restricting and controlling the pressure of the high-pressure foam to the bottom of the hole, a controlled fracturing is achieved which results in the fracturing and removing of a large volume of material at a low expenditure of energy. The foam-injection method produces almost no fly rock or airblast. The foam-injection method may be used to fracture, remove and/or excavate any hard material such as rock or concrete. The method may be used in either dry or water filled holes and the holes may be in any orientation. The foam injection apparatus is carried on a boom mounted on a carrier.

  • Patent number: 6367514
Abstract: A fabric with a rib structure, in particular a false boucle carpet, with cut pile (13) and/or pile loops (12) is formed by a method for weaving such a fabric. On a weaving machine, such as a rod weaving machine, a backing fabric is woven by bringing weft yarns (1), (2), (3) between warp yarns (4-9) in successive weft insertion cycles, alternately weaving in warp yarns (7), (8) in the backing fabric and rib-formingly passing them around over at least one weft yarn (3). In a number of weft insertion cycles a loop-forming element (10), such as for example a wire or a wire with a blade, is provided above the backing fabric and at least one pile warp yarn (7), (8) is loop-formingly passed around over this loop-forming element (10). This method enables weaving of a fabric with a very varied appearance, because apart from the false boucle effect, areas with pile loops (12) and/or areas with cut pile (13) can also be obtained.
