  • Patent number: 4293192
Abstract: A solar trough reflector including two forms with identical surfaces, preferably convex parabolic curves. The form members are carried on a longitudinal slideway in which at least one is free to slide. Positive mechanical means, such as a threaded screw, moves the slide to adjusted position on a slideway. Gripping means hold a flexible sheet with a reflecting surface tightly around the convex surfaces and then the adjusted means moves the slidable form away from the other to tension sheet. The entire slideway is pivoted on support members so that the trough so formed may be tilted to receive the direct rays of the sun.

  • Patent number: 4285680
Abstract: A box forming machine wherein box blanks move along a slideway while glue wheels rotating below the slideway apply spots of glue to each carton blank before it reaches the folding station. A carriage, which is slidable over the slideway, has pusher fingers to push the blank and also carries a rack which engages a gear on the glue wheel shaft. The pitch diameter of the gear is equal to the outer diameter of the glue wheel so that the box blank, and the glue applying surfaces of the glue wheels move at precisely the same speeds at any given instant whereby the glue is applied in precise areas determined by the shape of the glue applying surfaces.

  • Patent number: 4282757
Abstract: Apparatus for detecting a rate of pressure rise in a pipeline higher than an acceptable level, comprising a monitor conduit which is connected between the pipeline and a monitor chamber of uniform cross-section with a spring-biased piston or diaphragm therein. The invention contemplates means for producing a signal proportionate to the flow through said monitor conduit and, hence, to the rate of pressure change in the pipeline. One embodiment includes a device which senses the difference in pressure between the pipeline and the monitor chamber and delivers a signal when that difference becomes excessive. In another embodiment, a liquid reservoir at atmospheric pressure is connected to fill the monitor chamber on the other side of the diaphragm, so that the liquid pressure in the monitor chamber is proportionate to the rate of change of pressure in the pipeline and, when this pressure becomes excessive, an energizing signal is generated to relieve the surge.

  • Patent number: 4281330
Abstract: A device for recording and monitoring medical procedures, particularly during emergency treatment, including a keyboard with several groups of keys, one group representing different medical treatments, another representing different medications, another representing various dosages, as for example in c.c.'s and one representing numerical digits. When the keys are depressed a signal is transmitted to a microprocessor which routes it to a LED digital display for visual confirmation. Then, an "Enter" key, which is pressed at the time the treatment is actually effected, transmits the signals representing treatment, dosage, etc. selected by the depressed keys to the microprocessor which transmits the data, along with signals representative of the time of day from a clock circuit, simultaneously to a thermal printing device and to a tape recorder. In the meantime, signals from an external electrocardiogram machine are continuously being transmitted to the tape recorder to be recorded on a second channel.

  • Patent number: 4276684
Abstract: A hand tool particularly adapted for compressing an automobile shock absorber spring to facilitate repairs. The tool comprises a handle with a hook pivoted at the end thereof adapted to engage under a spring coil. An arm is pivoted near one end thereof intermediate the ends of the handle, and a downwardly facing hook on the end of the arm is adapted to engage over a higher coil of the spring. By pushing the handle with the hooks engaged, the hooks or jaws are brought closer together and a short extension of the arm swings across the handle, camming back a lock sleeve slidable thereon. When the arm extension and handle are in alignment, the lock sleeve is extended by a small spring to enclose the arm extension and prevent movement thereof. The compressed coil spring exerts a force on the jaws trying to separate them. This forces the arm extension tightly against the inner surface of the lock sleeve, holding the sleeve firmly in place against inadvertent retraction.

  • Patent number: 4261387
Abstract: A pipeline surge relief system including a relief valve of the type that opens when line pressure exceeds pressure in a pilot chamber. A bleed valve, which is operable to evacuate the pilot chamber is opened when pipeline pressure acting against a diaphragm or piston overcomes an opposing reference signal or pressure. The reference pressure is normally maintained at the pipeline pressure by a pressure differential valve which opens to a source of fluid pressure when reference pressure falls below line pressure. However, the differential valve has limited flow capacity so that, in the event of a surge, flow of the reference pressure fluid lags behind the pipeline fluid, whereby reference pressure does not build up as rapidly at bleed valve and is overcome by pipeline pressure to open the bleed valve.
