Patent number: 8352716Abstract: Technologies are described herein for boot caching to accelerate boot access in a data storage system providing boot consolidation. Boot caching may be provided to improve boot access for multiple clients concurrently booting from a common storage server. Boot statistics may be collected per user or client. The boot statistics can determine common patterns within the boot procedures of the clients and may be used to compute boot caching tables. These tables may then be used during boot caching to accelerate booting of clients. A boot caching mechanism can be implemented to support improved booting performance by caching data blocks common to multiple booting volumes. This approach can leverage the condition that much of the data loaded by clients at boot time may be substantially identical, because booting can involve loading the same operating system components into each client.Type: GrantFiled: January 16, 2009Date of Patent: January 8, 2013Assignee: American Megatrends, Inc.Inventors: Paresh Chatterjee, Srikumar Subramanian, Suresh Grandhi, Vijayarankan Muthirisavenugopal

Patent number: 8352497Abstract: Technologies are described herein for caching variably sized access control lists (ACLs) in a data storage system utilizing page object caching. A request to access a file is received. An inode number of the requested file is identified. A hash key based on the inode number and a predefined hash value is determined. A determination is made as to whether the hash key is contained in a hash list. In response to determining that the hash key is contained in the hash list, access to a page object in the memory is provided. The page object contains an access control list (ACL) associated with the requested file. The ACL is retrieved from the page object.Type: GrantFiled: February 9, 2010Date of Patent: January 8, 2013Assignee: American Megatrends, Inc.Inventors: Paresh Chatterjee, Srikumar Somangili Subramanian, Raghavan Sowrirajan

Patent number: 8343974Abstract: The present invention provides methods and compositions for treating thyroid-related medical conditions. Many thyroid-related medical conditions exist that go undiagnosed and untreated. These conditions may be prevented and treated with reduced folates and vitamin B12. Administration of reduced folates and vitamin B12 will prevent or treat cerebrospinal folate deficiency, which is linked to thyroid-related medical conditions. Administration of reduced folates and vitamin B12 will also prevent or treat conditions associated with masked megaloblastic anemia and hypothyroidism, and other conditions brought upon through improper thyroid function. Additionally, it is commonplace to treat many thyroid conditions with anti-thyroid drugs or thyroid stimulating drugs. This practice alone is also responsible for causing, or not beneficially addressing, adverse conditions that can be prevented or treated through the methods and compositions discussed herein.Type: GrantFiled: July 9, 2010Date of Patent: January 1, 2013Inventor: Linzy O. Patent number: 8332354Abstract: Technologies are described herein for skipping snapshots during a snapshot replication process in order to maintain an established recovery point objective. A first snapshot is selected after a previously replicated snapshot. A creation time of the first snapshot is retrieved. A difference between a current time and the creation time of the first snapshot is computed. A determination is made as to whether the difference is less than a recovery point objective. If the difference is less than a recovery point objective, then the first snapshot is replicated in the snapshot replicated process. If the difference is not less than a recovery point objective, then the first snapshot is skipped through the snapshot replication process.Type: GrantFiled: December 15, 2009Date of Patent: December 11, 2012Assignee: American Megatrends, Inc.Inventors: Paresh Chatterjee, Raja Jayaraman, Loganathan Ranganathan, Jomy Maliakal

Patent number: 8332678Abstract: Technologies are described herein for providing a power-save mode of operation for a continuous data protection (“CDP”) process. A CDP module executing on a computer detects when the computer is operating under battery power, and enters a power-save mode of operation. In the power-save mode, the CDP module monitors the state of the battery and restricts the CDP process based on a set of configuration settings specified for one of a number of zones, where each zone defines an upper and lower thresholds for a level of charge of the battery. If external power is restored to the computer, the CDP module restores the normal mode of operation for the CDP process.Type: GrantFiled: June 2, 2010Date of Patent: December 11, 2012Assignee: American Megatrends, Inc.Inventors: Anandh Mahalingam, Raja Jayaraman, Abhishek Khare, Rajesh Arivoli
