Abstract: A disk-shaped propellant module (6) for a propellant charge (2), which can be composed of several modules of this type. To ensure a uniform and symmetrical ignition of the propellant charge (2) for a cartridge with increased charge density (>1.2 g/cm3), the propellant module (6) is provided with at least three axially extending ignition channels (9), uniformly distributed over a partial circle, and at least three radial ignition channels (10) that extend from the inside or interior of the propellant module (6) to its outer edge surface (11). The center of the circle for the axial ignition channels (9) is positioned on the central axis (100) for the propellant module (6) and each of the radial ignition channels (10) intersects with at least one of the axial ignition channels (9).
Abstract: The present invention aims to provide a field effect transistor which inhibits an aggregation of silicon atoms attendant on heat treatment and has stable source/drain shapes. The field effect transistor according to the present invention is manufactured using a substrate on which a silicon layer, an buried oxide film (BOX film) and an SOI layer are stacked in order. The field effect transistor has an element isolation layer formed in the SOI layer and further includes visored portions provided so as to cover angular portions on the main surface side of an activation layer defined by the element isolation layer.
Abstract: In order to prevent silicides from getting under side walls when the silicides are formed over MOSFET formed over an SOI substrate, trenches are defined in the SOI substrate and side walls are formed over the trenches, whereby the silicides are blocked so as not to get under a gate insulator with a lower portion of each side wall as a structure convex in a downward direction of the substrate. Thus, an increase in gate withstand voltage, a decrease in gate leakage current and control on a short channel effect are achieved.
Abstract: An optical pulse pattern generator can generate optical pulse signals with various periods and patterns. It supplies an optical pulse from an optical pulse source to a variable optical delay line circuit including cascade-connected characteristic-variable asymmetrical Mach-Zehnder interferometers via an optical combiner and splitter. The optical pulse is fed back to the optical combiner and splitter from the final stages of the cascade-connected characteristic-variable a symmetrical Mach-Zehnder interferometers via an optical exclusive OR circuit and optical amplifier. Making directional couplers with variable coupling ratio, and directional couplers with variable coupling ratio in operation can cause the final stage of the cascade-connected characteristic-variable asymmetrical Mach-Zehnder interferometer to produce a random pulse train.

Abstract: A shape information coder divides the pixels in the shape information into subsets representing different subsamplings of the shape information. Each pixel in each subset is coded with reference to a context which may be derived from reference pixels in more than one of the subsets. The context preferably includes reference pixels located on all sides of the pixel being coded, which leads to efficient coding. The shape information coder may have two or more cascaded stages, each operating as above, with one subset of pixels passed from each stage to be coded in the next stage. The resulting coded shape information is useful in, for example, wavelet coding of pictures.
Abstract: A speech coding apparatus having a speech input unit for receiving input speech, a speech coding rate selector for selecting an appropriate speech coding rate according to the power of the input speech, a speech analyzer for processing the input speech to estimate a transfer function of the speaker's oral cavity, and a speech coding unit forming a synthesis filter based on the transfer function of the oral cavity. The speech coding unit also codes an excitation signal of the synthesis filter on the basis of an estimation result supplied by the speech analyzer. A gain suppressor interposed between the speech input unit and the speech coding unit suppresses the gain of a signal supplied from the speech input unit to the speech coding unit during an unvoiced period according to information from the speech coding rate selector.
Abstract: A wavelength converter implements high speed, high efficiency, low noise wavelength conversion without performing high voltage poling of a crystal, and enables switching and modulation of converted light in response to an electric field. A KLTN crystal, includes a deposited-gold electrode within its incidence plane, and is connected to a DC power supply via a copper wire. The crystal material is composed of KTa1-xNbxO3 and/or K1-yLiyTa1-xNbxO3. A polarizer controls the polarization of the fundamental wave in the direction parallel to the electric field, and launches it into the electrode of the KLTN crystal. The KLTN crystal, rotating on an axis in the direction of the electric field, launches only part of the generated SHG light with the same polarization direction as that of the incident light into a photo multiplier tube through a polarizer.

Abstract: An IC chip comprises a chip peripheral portion and a core macro portion. The chip peripheral portion is made up of a plurality of I/O buffers each of which serves as an interface between the IC chip and the outside thereof, and a plurality of pads to which bonding wires are electrically connected. A CPU core block, peripheral blocks, random logic blocks, and a gate array block are placed in the core macro portion. The respective blocks are electrically connected to one another by metal interconnections. The gate array block designed by a gate array system is layout-designed in accordance with a standard cell system or full custom system together with other blocks.

Abstract: A demodulator device of the present invention receives a propagation signal including a plurality of channel signals multiplexed with each other, that is modulated by using an orthogonal code sequence, through different propagation paths. The demodulator device includes propagation path estimators for performing operations including propagation path estimation and demodulates the received propagation signal by subjecting outputs of the propagation path estimators to multi-path combination. More specifically, for information obtained by correlators corresponding to operations, the demodulator device performs the multi-path combination by combining results of multiplications of the outputs of the propagation path estimators for correlation values and then separate the plurality of channels.
Abstract: An optical attenuator includes a holding sleeve, a pair of ferrules inserted into and fixed to the holding sleeve such that the ferrules oppose each other at base ends thereof at a predetermined distance between each base end, and an attenuating fiber inserted into and fixed to the pair of ferrules such that ends of the attenuating fiber are exposed. The optical attenuator is also provided with an opening in the holding sleeve so as to communicate with the outside. A filler is supplied into the sleeve through the opening.
Abstract: An optical transmission system according to the present invention includes a connection confirming circuit 106 for confirming connection of an input data signal, a test signal generator 105 for generating a test signal, and a switching device 107 on a transmitter side. The switching device 107 selectively generates the input data signal from an output terminal in the case where the input data signal is detected by the connection confirming circuit 106, and the test signal when the input data signal is not detected. An output of the switching device 107 is connected to an optical transmitter TX. On a receiver side, there is provided a determination circuit for receiving an optical signal from a transmission path and detecting the test signal to determine transmission characteristics of the transmission path on the basis of the test signal.
Abstract: An echo canceling apparatus includes a long-response echo canceler that removes an echo of an incoming signal from an outgoing signal by operating on a most recent segment of the incoming signal, stored in a tapped delay unit. The apparatus has a control unit that calculates a cancellation characteristic for each tap of the tapped delay unit. The cancellation characteristics are used to select a subset of taps corresponding to a changing component of the echo, the subset being empty if there is no changing component. A short-response echo canceler, operating on the outputs of the selected taps, cancels the changing component of the echo left uncanceled by the long-response echo canceler. Alternatively, the step gain of the selected taps is increased. The short-response echo canceler is preferably disabled in the double-talk state.
Abstract: A magnetic transfer apparatus writing a servo signal by magnetically transferring to a magnetic recording medium, and an optical type inspection apparatus for optically inspecting scratch or foreign matter on the magnetic recording medium wherein a characteristic grease is used for these apparatuses are disclosed. Grease used in the magnetic transfer apparatus or the optical type inspection apparatus generates sulfur type gas in amount less than or equal to 0.5 ppb.

Abstract: A quartz oscillator includes a base, a quartz thin-film formed on the base by epitaxial growth, a vibrating reed portion formed by processing the quartz thin-film, and excitation electrodes for vibrating the vibrating reed portion. At least one of the excitation electrodes may be formed by depositing a metal. The material for the base may include a single-element semiconductor, a compound semiconductor, and an oxide. When a semiconductor is used for the base, a semiconductor circuit may be provided to the base to form a module including a quartz oscillator.
Abstract: The invention provides a method for testing oscillators in which cracks and chips on oscillator chips that may possibly have an effect on the oscillation characteristics can be detected efficiently, without using an optical examination device and an image processing device, which require troublesome adjustment and higher cost. When testing the oscillation characteristics of oscillator chips, the method comprises a network analyzer, an upper electrode, a lower electrode, an oscillator chip, a bush, and a personal computer. The personal computer is connected to the network analyzer using a GP-IB interface cable, and is capable of storing, displaying, and comparing all measurement results of the network analyzer. The upper electrode can be shifted vertically by a vertical mechanism.
Abstract: A light-signal delaying device according to the present invention includes a linear guide rail and a pair of stages mounted on the linear guide rail. The device further includes a V-groove holder mounted on one of the stages, a pair of optical fiber collimators secured to the V-groove holder, a pair of reflecting mirrors mounted on the other stage such that reflecting surfaces thereof meet each other at 90°, and an actuator engaging section for moving the stage along the linear guide rail.
Abstract: A semiconductor optical modulator having an electroabsorptive layer and a pair of modulating voltage electrodes also has a direct-current voltage electrode, from which an unmodulated electric field can be applied to the electroabsorptive layer to adjust the output optical power level. The output optical power level can thus be adjusted without the need for an external attenuator, and without shifting the modulating voltage away from the part of the extinction ratio characteristic having the best linearity. An optical multiplexing module using semiconductor optical modulators of this type can generate a multiplexed output signal with a uniform optical power level simply by controlling the direct-current voltages applied to the semiconductor optical modulators.
