Abstract: An interactive multimedia system for remote diagnostics of, maintenance of, and assistance pertaining to a multifunction peripheral preferably includes a multifunction peripheral, a remote service endpoint, and a network system over which the multifunction peripheral communicates with the remote service endpoint. An audio/visual capture device and a display are preferably communicatively associated with the multifunction peripheral communication entity. The remote service endpoint provides assistance based on the audio/video data over the display in such exemplary forms as text, images, multimedia presentation, audio presentations, video presentations, or live interactive communications. The present invention is also directed to a method performed by a multifunction peripheral that provides interactive multimedia for remote diagnostics of, maintenance of, and assistance regarding a multifunction peripheral.

Abstract: A method of controlling a scanning device using control sheets. The scan job is started and the control image is located. The control image is decoded, either as part of the locating step or part of a processing step. The output is created either after the processing step, where the output is created in accordance with the control instructions decoded from the control image, or prior to the processing of the control instruction.
Abstract: A method is provided that uses half-period translations, ply-upon-pin repositions, and shape-maintaining pins with a bolster plate, with insertable nodal heating elements that provide heat at their rectangular ends and when driven under pressure against opposing pins with rectangular faces cure portions of a pre-impregnated fabric to make honeycomb core composite articles.
Abstract: A digital signal gating method and apparatus of a preprocessor in a detection system wherein the detection system includes a central processing unit, a main memory and a receiver, whereby the apparatus and method bifurcate received digital signals, delays them along a first path while subjecting the digital signals along a second path to detection, delay, and thresholding and thereby generates a gating signal from the second path so that digital signals of the first path, including pre-threshold amplitudes, may be recorded.

Abstract: Disclosed is an autonomous radar guidance of an otherwise radar-directed projectile (RDP). The preferred embodiment uses an inexpensive radar receiver with an inexpensive slow wave antenna, placed internally in a gun projectile, and on the surface of the projectile, respectively. The receiver detects the angle and range of the target relative to the body coordinates of the projectile. The radar receiver operates as a bistatic radar apparatus with the primary illumination emanating from the fire control radar directing the fire of the gun. When integrated with an on-board trajectory correcting system, such as divert thrusters of miniature proportions, the projectile autonomously refines its otherwise ballistic trajectory to the target. The trajectory refinements produce improved kills per round, with the potential for reducing the ammunition expended and time-loading on the fire control system and its guns.
Abstract: A method of configuring paper stock in a printing device. The method includes loading paper into a tray of the printing device and then providing information about the paper and the tray to the printing device. Once the information is provided to the printing device, a user interface is updated to include that information. Also included is a method presenting a user interface that includes establishing a window on a display device viewable by a user and providing the user with a view of paper in at least one paper tray of the printing device. The method also includes the step of allowing the user to select the at least one paper tray to complete a print job.
Abstract: Systems and methods for optimizing the advantages of multi-level rendering of text and/or graphics at an output device by providing an alternate manner to perform multi-level rendering. A computer device, employed to render an image or graphical entity, is connected to an output device, and a request is received at the computer device to render a graphical entity at the output device. The resolution of the output device is identified and the data corresponding to graphical entity is translated to a resolution that is higher than the resolution of the output device. A conversion or translation is then performed to scale the image data from the higher resolution to the resolution of the output device. Optionally, a halftone matrix is employed to eliminate aliasing. The graphical entity is then more accurately rendered at the output device than by utilizing traditional techniques.
Abstract: A digital-circuit return-to-zero device and method for digital-to-analog conversion is disclosed that uses an internal multiplexer alternatively selecting, or selecting in a scheduled fashion, digital input data and an expansion code. By the using the disclosed multiplexing process, where the expansion code is a null code, the usable analog spectrum of the digital-to-analog converter (DAC) extends beyond that of DACs. With the multiplexing process applied to a complementary interpolation process, the disclosed device is adapted for selective enhancement of the frequency spectrum proximate to the clock frequency. While extending the usable frequency spectrum beyond conventional DACs, the present invention, in its several embodiments, features low complexity and high portability relative to known response expansion solutions.
Abstract: A multi-service network switch allowing tiered access to system resources. Call policy records maintained by the switch designate quality of access (QoA) levels to different types of incoming calls. When a connection is requested, the call's call policy record is retrieved and the call's QoA level is identified. A requested resource is then allocated to the call based on the identified QoA level and current resource usage.
Abstract: The invention, in its several embodiments, includes a method of making a plurality of impedance-matched layers interposed between an acoustical source and a target media providing optimal transmission of energy from the acoustical source to the target media.
Abstract: The disclosed invention mounts transmitting and receiving electrical coils within channels or chambers formed by the notched ends of magnets closest to the metallic object under test where the magnets are arranged to form substantially annular arrays of an electromagnetic acoustic transducer pair applicable in non-destructive testing. The detection, preferably by tuned coils, of one or more electromagnetically-induced resonant frequencies at shifted locations indicates the presence of one or more flaws in the metallic structure under test.
Abstract: A queue scheduling method and apparatus for a queuing structure including a plurality of queues at different priorities and having different bandwidth privileges competing for the bandwidth of an output. The method selects a queue at the current priority, having data for release to the output and having available bandwidth to release data to the output. If there are a plurality of such queues, round-robin ordering determines which queue in the plurality is selected. The apparatus includes a plurality of bit masks representing the status in relation to a queue state variable of the different queues, which masks are combined in a bit-wise AND operation to determine which queues are selectable for releasing data to the output.
Abstract: An ATM switch with rate-limiting congestion control has a plurality of input ports, a plurality of output ports operatively associated with one or more data buffers, an output control and a switch fabric for switching data units from any of the input ports to any of the output ports on virtual connections. The ATM switch imposes and enforces transmission rate-limiting policies against the virtual connections when the backlog of data units for delivery to a particular output port reaches a particular level. The ATM switch may be arranged to exempt high priority data units from the imposed rate limitations and has a means to lift the rate limitations when the backlog has been sufficiently reduced.

Abstract: In a switching device, a method of communicating data packets from sending ports to destination ports includes storing in a first stage queue packet-related data from a sending port; determining from the packet-related data which destination ports are to receive the packet-related data in the first stage queue; storing in a second stage queue associated with each determined destination port the packet-related data from the first stage queue; and using the packet-related data in the second stage queue to complete the communication of the data packet from the sending port to each determined destination port. Apparatus for practicing the method comprises a first stage queue storing packet-related data from a sending port; and a second stage queue associated with each of a set of destination ports storing the packet-related data from the first stage queue.
