  • Patent number: 5744419
Abstract: A supported catalyst is prepared by depositing oxides of nickel and cobalt, with or without noble metals, on a sintered low surface area porous inert support, surface of which is precoated with an oxide of Be, Mg, Ca or a mixture thereof so that a protective layer of the alkaline earth oxide is formed between the oxides of nickel and cobalt, with or without noble metal, and the support and hence direct chemical interactions between the oxides of the group VIII transition metals and the reactive components of support, which leads to the formation of catalytically inactive binary oxide phases are avoided.

  • Patent number: 5742130
Abstract: The invention relates to an intelligent lamp or an intelligent contact terminal for a lamp, which can be used in a lighting system comprising a plurality of individually controlled lamps (1; 5) linked in a common power-supply circuit (8, 9) and an operation control device for transmitting a desired operation control signal to electronic control elements (11, 12, 13), associated with the lamp or the contact terminal and reacting or failing to react selectively to various control signals. Together with the lamp or its contact terminal, said electronic control elements (11, 12, 13) provide a single replaceable component which, on the basis of a message included in the operation control signal, identifies itself to serve as an appropriate lamp. In addition, the electronic control elements (2; 6) monitor the condition of itself and that of the lamp and, if necessary, produce a fault indication.

  • Patent number: 5729275
Abstract: According to the present invention, a plurality of drive ICs (7) are mounted on a thermal printhead (1) which has a predetermined number of heating dots (3). The number of output bits of each drive IC (7) is set to be a divisor of 1/4 of the predetermined number of the heating dots (3) and a multiple of 8 which is no less than 48. Thus, it is possible to divide the plurality of drive ICs (7) into 2 or 4 groups and to control the groups of drive ICs by time division. Further, when the number of output bits of each drive IC (7) is set to be a common divisor of 1/4 and 1/3 of the predetermined number of the heating dots (3), it is possible to drive the thermal printhead (1) by 3-divisional control in addition to 2- and 4-divisional control. Specifically, the number of output bits of each drive IC (7) is preferably any one of 72, 144 or 216, in particular 144.

  • Patent number: 5729750
Abstract: Substantially automatic dimensioning is performed in computer aided design for a design item. For this purpose, different kinds of constituent elements are registered in different tables based on which provisional dimensioning is performed along an X-axis and a Y-axis to generate provisional dimensioning lines in different stages. Then, the provisional dimensioning lines are rearranged in a manner such that larger valued dimensioning lines are located farther from the design item than smaller valued dimensioning lines. Leader dimensioning may be further performed with respect to such elements as 45.degree.-chamfer elements, arc elements, circles and section bores.

  • Patent number: 5720845
Abstract: A polishing head is suitable for polishing a semiconductor wafer and for providing endpoint detection during chemical-mechanical polishing. The head features an arrangement of patterned active actuators and load cells above the wafer to fully control the wafer surface profile changes and provide endpoint detection during the polishing processes. Each active actuator applies pressure according to the local coated thin film thickness on the wafer and relative velocity between the wafer and polishing pad. The load cell senses the actual force pressing on the wafer and feeds the information back to the actuator to adjust the force to a preset value, The planar endpoint is detected by sensing a change in friction force between different thin film material on the wafer. The change in friction force is detected by the load cell and a signal is produced to adjust or stop the process.
