  • Patent number: 5455479
Abstract: A mounting (1) for quartz-oscillator discs (2) is described, which mounting exhibits a base plate, two current feed-through pins (4a, b), which are fastened in an insulated manner in the base plate, and a central contact pin (15). Within the base plate (20) there is provided a receiving groove (25) for the quartz-oscillator disc (2), which is fastened to the mounting only at the two fastening points (31 and 32). The receiving sections (7a, 7b) of the lugs (6a, 6b) respectively exhibit a slot (8a, b), which extends far enough downwards that the quartz-oscillator disc no longer touches the lug (6a, 6b) in the lower section of the slot. In addition, the lug can exhibit a recess (40), which forms in the vertical direction an additional spring element.

  • Patent number: 5455778
Abstract: A method and apparatus for designing hydrodynamic bearings having movable bearing pads and a method for supporting a rotating shaft with such bearings. Bearing pad position under load is calculated using finite element analysis to determine influence coefficients, which are then used in conjunction with a two-dimensional model of the fluid film to provide the steady-state behavior of the bearing. The bearing design is altered until an acceptable design is arrived at. A bearing designed according to this method can be used to support a rotating shaft.

  • Patent number: 5449109
Abstract: A high gas pressure material capable of producing 50-300 psi gas pressure at forming temperature is placed in an enclosed area surrounding and sealing the blanks to be superplastically formed, without the use of argon gas. The blanks are formed under tensile stress by the internal pressure produced by the high gas pressure material. The method can be performed concurrently with diffusion bonding to obtain a metallic structure from a plurality of workpieces, and also can be used to manufacture perfectly spherical hollow bodies by a dieless method.

  • Patent number: 5449538
Abstract: A label/leaflet assembly includes a support web with a release coating on which is placed an adhesive label with a leaflet secured on its front face. The leaflet has a front cover one end of which extends beyond the underlying panels of the leaflets. This end of the leaflet has a first part which is permanently joined to the main body of the front cover and which is releasably and re-sealably adherent to the label, and a second part which is permanently secured by an adhesive to the label and is connected to the first part and/or the main body of the front cover along one or more tear lines. Until opened the leaflet is held firmly sealed by the second part. When opened the leaflet is re-sealable, but the torn tear lines show that the leaflet has been opened. The assembly is thus tamper-evident.

  • Patent number: 5447472
Abstract: A progressive cavity device including an articulate coupling for converting the complex motion of the rotor into simple rotation. The coupling includes two shafts coupled to one another by joint assemblies connected to opposite ends of an intermediate shaft. The joint assemblies include interlocked threaded portions and an elastomer filling the spaces between the threaded portions. Under loading the male and female portion move relative to one another so that the elastomer is subject to both compression and shear. Should the elastomer fail, the threaded portions simply lock together thereby allowing fail safe operation. The moving components within the coupling are perfectly isolated from the surrounding environment.

  • Patent number: 5436515
Abstract: An elongated electric motor having an annular stator with laminations and a segmented rotor on a shaft bearing assemblies provided between the rotor segments support the shaft and rotor. The bearing assemblies include a sleeve for supporting the shaft and a support portion adjacent the stator. The outer-periphery of the support portion is made resilient, preferably by the provision of resilient elements about its periphery. For example, a plurality of wheels may be disposed on the outer periphery. The wheels inhibit rotation of the bearing while at the same time permitting easy longitudinal movement of the bearing relating to the stator. The wheels are provided with a spring characteristic by mounting on an axle which is supported for deflection or supported in elastomeric bushings or, alternatively, the axle is supported in a cantilever fashion. Wheels may also be formed of a compressible elastomeric material.
