  • Patent number: 4227958
Abstract: Apparatus is provided for applying an end cap to a cloth board reel automatically. The end cap has a front wall and a pair of side walls. One of the side walls is provided with an extension at each end which wraps around the longitudinal ends of the reel. The machine applies the long side wall to the reel, folds over the front wall, and wraps the extensions of the side wall around the longitudinal edges of the reel. The remaining side wall is then folded over the broad side of the reel and the extensions which have been wrapped around.

  • Patent number: 4220949
Abstract: An electric fence monitor and alarm apparatus and method is provided in which the charge condition of an electric security fence is continuously monitored, and an indication is provided when the charge on the electric fence falls below a pre-determined level. In a preferred embodiment, the charge on the line causes a circuit to be maintained in an energized condition which maintains a relay or other switch means in a first condition preventing the energization of indicator means or alarm means such as sirens, automatic telephone dialers, horns and bells. When the charge on the line falls below a pre-determined level, the relay or other switch means is switched to a second state, after a pre-determined adjustable time delay, to cause the operation of the indicator, thereby alerting the proper personnel to a failure of the charge on the line for any reason. The failure of the charge on the line is often caused by an unauthorized cutting of the line.

  • Patent number: 4214774
Abstract: A disassemblable boat carrier and launcher is disclosed which may be used by an individual to manually maneuver a boat from a automotive vehicle to the water and launch the boat in the water without assistance. The longitudinal tongue of the boat carrier may be disassembled and the wheeled support section may be folded for compact storage on the boat. The storability of the boat carrier at either the automotive vehicle or on the boat while the boat is in use on the water eliminates the need for unnecessary trips between the water and the automotive vehicle. The boat carrier enables the transporting of the boat between the automotive vehicle and the water, the launching of the boat into the water and the retrieving of the boat from the water by a single person.

  • Patent number: 4180142
Abstract: An emergency escape openable skylight is provided with a resiliently biased openable cover with at least a substantial portion of the openable cover being constructed of a transparent material. The skylight is provided with a retractable ladder. The retractable ladder may be a pully operated flexible ladder, a rigid foldable ladder, or any other suitable retractable ladder. The cover is normally held closed by a latch means, but is self-opening or substantially self-opening upon release of the latch by reason of the resilient biasing means.

  • Patent number: 4160285
Abstract: A point locating apparatus is disclosed for precisely locating a point from a known point where the position of the point to be located has been previously known. The apparatus of the present invention may be used to repeatedly locate an object, such as an oil fill pipe, once its position is originally known even though the location of the object on subsequent occasions may be obscured from view. The apparatus includes a bracket which may be mounted at a fixed point, such as on the wall of a building, and a collimated light source which may be removably mounted on the bracket. The bracket includes a keyed mounting structure which is at least partially rotatable in two orthogonal directions, thereby allowing adjustment to point the collimated light source in the direction of the object to be repeatedly located on subsequent occasions.

  • Patent number: 4150123
Abstract: A pharmaceutical preparation for treating gastro intestinal ulcers, and particularly ulcers of the stomach and duodenum, is produced as an alcohol extract of the herb Cetraria, also known as Iceland Moss and by the Latin name Cetraria Islandica. The extract is preferably derived from the herb Cetraria by a strong grain or ethyl alcohol solvent. The alcohol extract is administered orally and has been found to be effective to treat ulcers of the stomach and duodenum.

  • Patent number: 4148057
Abstract: Direct laser printing and forming apparatus is provided wherein a surface to be printed is coated with an ink which is setable upon being irradiated by energy. The surface to be printed may be selectively irradiated by a source of a directable beam of energy radiation or a coherent electromagnetic radiation, which may be a laser, which scans the surface to be printed. The image is formed directly on the surface by selectively irradiating portions of the ink to be set. The excess ink, which has not been set, is removed leaving the printed image. The coherent source of electromagnetic radiation or the laser is controlled by means of a computer system. The process may be repeated for different colors using a color separation technique. The apparatus may be used to print directly on large and/or irregularly shaped objects. In a second embodiment, the apparatus of the present invention may be used to form a three dimensional object from material which is setable upon being irradiated by electromagnetic radiation.

  • Patent number: 4120490
Abstract: The clamping device comprises a housing and an anchoring device for fixing the housing to the table of a machine tool. A jaw for clamping the work to be machined to the table and a lever extending the jaw are both pivotally mounted on a pivot pin carried by the housing. An actuating device engages one end of the lever for shifting the lever about the pivot pin and is accessible from outside the housing. A detachable coupling device renders the lever rigid with the jaw in any one of a number of relative angular positions so that, when the actuating device shifts the lever, the lever and the jaw move together for clamping the work. A spacer block can be combined with the clamping device. The block has on its top side a cavity for receiving the anchor device of the clamping device and a lock member for engaging an aperture in the housing.

  • Patent number: 4118035
Abstract: An apparatus for playing an educational and entertaining game concerning the use of a matrix and astrology which includes a game board having a plurality of circularly consecutively arranged segments. Each of said plurality of segments is identified with either a sign of the zodiac, a starting segment, an astrological element or a neutral segment. The segments identified with the signs of the zodiac are further identified with one of the characteristics of the particular sign of the zodiac. A means of chance and a playing piece for each player of the game is provided. A plurality of cards is provided with there being one card for each combination of a zodiac sign and characteristic. A score card is provided for each player.

  • Patent number: 4106723
Abstract: A spool for thread or the like is provided with means for locking or securing the spool in position over a spindle. The spool may be of the type having a base member and a substantially cylindrical portion in which the thread may be taken from the spool in a direction substantially parallel to the spool axis. A locking means is provided to prevent spool jumping when the thread on the spool is partially removed making the spool with the remaining thread thereon lighter. In one embodiment, radial score marks, indentations or grooves are formed in a thin membrane section of the spool formed across the bore of the spool. The spool is designed so that the thin membrane will break along the radial score marks when placed over the spindle with the inwardly pointing ends of the thin membrane engaging the spindle thereby holding the spool down. In another embodiment, an adhesive is provided on the bottom of the base portion of the spool to temporarily fasten the spool to the thread stand plate.

  • Patent number: 4092690
Abstract: The protective relay circuits herein provide a combined distance and overcurrent type of function. The protective relay circuit includes an a-c level detector or bi-polar threshold circuit to which the quantity I (Z.sub.R - Z.sub.F) is applied. The quantity I is the current in the line, Z.sub.R is a replica or reference impedance corresponding to the lines being protected and Z.sub.F is the line impedance to the fault from the relay measuring point. IZ.sub.F is equal to V, the voltage input to the relay. An output is provided from the a-c level detector only when the quantity I (Z.sub.R - Z.sub.F) exceeds a predetermined value. The output of the level detector is compared in a coincidence circuit, or AND gate, with a polarizing signal. The detection of coincidence for a selectable predetermined time period, as measured by a characteristic timer, results in an output signal for use in controlling operation of the trip coil of the circuit breaker.

  • Patent number: 4091433
Abstract: This protective relay circuit responds to interphase faults on a three-phase power line by causing a circuit breaker connected in the power line to be tripped three-pole in response to interphase faults, but does not respond to a single line to ground fault, allowing a single pole to be tripped for this latter type of fault.
