  • Patent number: 6336553
Abstract: Soap bars can be effectively packaged in substantially transparent materials so that the soap bar can be seen through the packaging material. This is particularly useful with decorative colored translucent soap bars. The soap bars first are at least partially enveloped in a first relatively thick and stiff substantially transparent film and then fully enveloped in a second relatively thin substantially transparent film. The soap bars are generally rectangular but with rounded edges and a shape that tapers in cross-section from a midpoint of the soap bar to the ends. The first film forms a substantially rectangular cylinder which envelops about 95% to about 105% of the soap bar. This rectangular cylinder is open at each end. The second film fully envelops the soap bar. The end package provides a soap bar maintained within a rectangular cylinder with a low fragrance loss and a moisture transmissivity of less than about 3 gm/m2/day.

  • Patent number: 6336763
Abstract: The dispenser has a mesh fabric applicator surface which provides for a uniform flow of the semisolid substance to be dispensed, but does not have the problem of post-extrusion flow. That is, there is not required such an overpressure to start the flow of the substance, with this overpressure remaining after use of the applicator and causing the semisolid substance to extrude through the applicator surface after use. The mesh fabric surface can be a woven or nonwoven fabric, in one or more plies. Nonwoven fabrics include apertured extruded films. The mesh fabric is heat bonded to the upper frame of the applicator and can have an underlying support. The mesh fabric can yield to follow the contours of a skin surface, but will not be permanently distorted. There is provided a surface for a dispenser for a viscous semisolid substance where there is improved shear of the semisolid substance and a more uniform application.

  • Patent number: 6331331
Abstract: Injection stretch blowmolded polyester tubes have been developed for use in packaging water-containing products. Polyester resins have good barrier properties for organic materials but poor moisture barrier properties. It has been found that the moisture barrier properties can be increased by coating the exterior surface of the tube with a first material which adheres to the tube polyester surface and to an overlayer of a moisture barrier comprising polyvinylidene chloride, However, since the overlayer of polyvinylidene chloride can develop a yellow tint, the overlayer in one embodiment is coated with an opaque decorative layer to prevent or mask the gradual yellowing of the polyvinylidene chloride overlayer. In another embodiment where the tube is to be substantially transparent, the product in the tube will have a color that will substantially cancel the yellow tint that is developed by the polyvinylidene chloride overlayer.

  • Patent number: 6289904
Abstract: The nylon fiber strand is coated with a coating to produce a coated surface on the nylon that mimics the surface characteristics of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE). The coating is comprised of a base prime coat and a top finish coat. These coatings are applied separately to the nylon fiber strand. The top finish coat which is also known as the nylon wax coat is comprised of waxes, an ester and a silicone, and primarily of waxes. The waxes are comprised of a mixture of a low melting point wax and a high melting point wax.

  • Patent number: 6276566
Abstract: The three-dimensional design of a container is enhanced by the suspension of a three-dimensional design within the container. This is accomplished by a depending member which is a part of a container closure or which is supported by the upper edge of a container and held in place by a closure. This depending member has a three-dimensional design attached thereto or as an integral part thereof. The depending member can be cylindrical of different shapes or can be discontinuous such as having a longitudinal gap extending partially or fully the length of the depending member. When the closure to the container is a pump dispenser the dip tube of the pump dispenser can pass through and be partially or fully surrounded by the depending member, or optionally the dip tube can be the depending member with the three-dimensional design attached thereto or an integral part thereof.

  • Patent number: 6269962
Abstract: The container of this invention has an increased strength in compression. When filled and with a closure the containers can withstand greater compressive force without a resulting deflection. This permits the use of a lighter weight and less costly shipper carton. The containers have a substantially rigid base, and except for rigidifying recesses, a substantially planar base. Further, the sidewalls of the container are substantially devoid of recesses and projections, and particularly, in the region of the base of the container. In addition, the sidewalls have a slight outward taper from an area at an upper part of the sidewall to the base of the container.

  • Patent number: 6270890
Abstract: The floss is made of a plurality of polytetrafluoroethylene filaments and non-polytetrafluoroethylene filaments. The polytetrafluoroethylene filaments provide for a lubricity for the floss to enter more spaces and the non-polytetrafluoroethylene filaments provide for a case in gripping. In the way a range of polytetrafluoroethylene filaments can be used in the construction of a dental floss.
