Patent number: 7901174Abstract: A device and method for transferring cargo are disclosed, including transferring cargo between an aft-loading aircraft and a ground transportation vehicle. In one embodiment, the invention may include a tilt frame, a transfer bed, and an adjustable carriage. The tilt frame may be pivotally engaged to a vehicle chassis where the tilt frame has a first end near the cab of the vehicle and a second end distal from the cab. The transfer bed may have a first end connected to the tilt frame and may be movable along an upper surface of the tilt frame. The adjustable height carriage may support a second end of the transfer bed. The transfer bed may be leveled at varying heights by moving the first end of the transfer bed along the upper surface of the tilt frame, and by varying the height of the carriage.Type: GrantFiled: September 6, 2006Date of Patent: March 8, 2011Assignee: Miller Industries Towing Equipment IncInventors: John M. Patent number: 7850192Abstract: An adjustable ball-type hitch assembly, and a method for using it. The hitch assembly is connected to a hitch receiver of a towing vehicle on one end, and to a vehicle to be towed having a ball receiver, on the other end. In a preferred embodiment, the adjustable hitch assembly may include a base attachable to the receiver, and a sliding element such as a tongue supporting the ball and pivotally attached to the base. The sliding element may include a slot or groove enabling the sliding element to move along its longitudinal axis relative to the base, and to also rotate about a vertical axis perpendicular to a horizontal plane containing at least a portion of the sliding element, enabling the ball to be moved in various directions in a substantially horizontal plane to facilitate connection of the ball to the towed vehicle.Type: GrantFiled: November 13, 2008Date of Patent: December 14, 2010Assignee: Inventive, LLCInventors: Charles J Ceccarelli, Kevin B Haight

Patent number: 7845025Abstract: A helmet which may be rapidly disassembled and removed from a wearer. A flexible cable may engage cable fastening elements located along a helmet split area, thereby forming the outer shell into an integral, rigid unit. When desired, the cable may be quickly withdrawn from the cable fastening elements so that the outer shell may be rapidly disassembled and removed from the wearer. Following disassembly, the helmet may be rapidly reassembled by reengagement with the cable fastening elements. Each end of the cable may be provided with a handle, to facilitate helmet disassembly whether the wearer of the helmet is lying substantially face-down or substantially face-up. A cable release mechanism may be provided to prevent unauthorized or undesired helmet disassembly during play, for example.Type: GrantFiled: May 22, 2006Date of Patent: December 7, 2010Inventor: Joseph R. Patent number: 7806488Abstract: In a medication storage cart or ADM machine housing a plurality of individual drawers or bins holding medication and/or medical equipment, the invention provides devices and a method for reducing the risk of nosocomial infection through the use of disposable liners. Disposable liners may be placed within the bins, within drawer liners, or within cubies or mini-drawers. In some applications the liners may be color-coded for a predetermined use or patient compartmentalized with dividers, or customized with special labels. The disposable liners may have a tapered form so that multiple liners may be stored in a nested stack to minimize space requirements and to be loaded into a liner dispenser system.Type: GrantFiled: June 5, 2009Date of Patent: October 5, 2010Assignee: DBL Solution, IncInventors: Robin E Hannan, Curtis A. Patent number: 7727173Abstract: A custom-made ankle/foot orthosis for the treatment of patients having plantar ulcers and foot deformities is disclosed, which comprises a rigid L-shaped support member and a rigid anterior support shell hingedly articulated to the L-shaped support member. The plantar portion of the L-shaped member further comprises at least one ulcer-protecting hollow spatially located for fitted placement in inferior adjacency to a user's plantar ulcer, thus allowing the user to transfer the user's weight away from the plantar ulcer and facilitating plantar ulcer treatment. The anterior support shell is designed for lateral hinged attachment to the L-shaped member to take advantage of medial tibial flare structure for enhancing the weight-bearing properties of the disclosed orthosis. Leg securement structure attaches the anterior support shell to the L-shaped member in fixed, weight-bearing relation about the proximal, anterior portion of the user's lower leg.Type: GrantFiled: June 24, 2005Date of Patent: June 1, 2010Inventor: John E. Patent number: 7717656Abstract: A device and method for transferring cargo are disclosed, including a device having a directional diverter and a means for securing the directional diverter to an ANSI/ISO corner fitting having a vertical face. The directional diverter may facilitate the conversion of horizontal movement of the container to inclined travel on an inclined surface, for example the inclined surface of a cargo transfer bed, such that when a force pulls the container in a direction generally normal to the vertical face and along the inclined surface, the directional diverter may contact the inclined surface prior to contact between the corner fitting and the inclined surface. In some embodiments, the directional diverter may be a sloped surface. In other embodiments, the directional diverter may be a roller or wheel.Type: GrantFiled: June 17, 2008Date of Patent: May 18, 2010Assignee: Miller Industries Towing Equipment Inc.Inventors: John M Cullum, David W Bannon, Dean T Mullin, Christopher L Wilcox

Patent number: 7618228Abstract: Lift adaptors for the hook-up and towing of heavy vehicles such as buses, coaches and trucks in a damage-free fashion, avoiding the need for pre-picking. The lift adaptors may be mounted to receivers slidable over the underlift crossbar of heavy-duty, underlift-type tow vehicles. An engagement end of the lift adaptors may be secured to the underside portion of a vehicle to be towed, using an eye bracket, apertures or another attachment mechanism. A movable boom may be used to locate the crossbar in a proper position beneath the towed vehicle, enabling engagement to the lift adaptors. The lift adaptors are preferably designed for quick decoupling in the field so that they may be replaced with forks or other hook-up or towing attachment mechanisms.Type: GrantFiled: October 29, 2004Date of Patent: November 17, 2009Assignee: Miller Industries Towing Equipment IncInventor: C. Patent number: 7575398Abstract: A lifting device such as a mobile crane having a main body and a boom, such as a lattice boom, for supporting a pile lead for, e.g., pile driving or continuous flight auger drilling, and a method of using same. A hydraulically operated mechanical spotter arm may be attached between the device body and the pile lead. Electronic position sensors on the spotter arm may be used to measure angular relationships between the pile lead and the spotter arm. Position sensors on a boom box on the boom may also be used. When the pile lead is swung, information from the sensors may be used by an electronic control system to automatically maintain the pile lead in a desirable position, limiting torque induced in the boom. The boom box position sensors may be used to counter-steer the spotter arm to further limit torque. The boom box may also be fitted with rubber springs to permit controlled pile lead deflection while limiting load transmitted to the boom.Type: GrantFiled: August 17, 2006Date of Patent: August 18, 2009Assignee: Deep Foundations Contractors, IncInventors: Peter Lloyd, William F Stark

Patent number: RE41060Abstract: A multi-functional charger with power generating and illumination functions comprises a device body, a gear set, a generator, a voltage and current control loop, a battery, and a movable rod. When the movable rod rotates, the generator will operate by the driving of the gear set so as to generate a current. The current is suppressed, rectified and regulated by the voltage and current control loop. It can be determined to be stored in the battery or outputted through a plug by the switching of the switch. The power stored in the battery can be supplied to the LED lamp or to be outputted. When the power is outputted, a plug serves to be connected to an electric device to be charged. To achieve the requirement of illumination, the generator is connected to an external bulb set. Thereby, the charger can be used in various applications.Type: GrantFiled: February 8, 2006Date of Patent: December 29, 2009Inventor: Yung-Chia Yu
