  • Patent number: 6272788
Abstract: A fish hook removing device for manually removing fish hooks from the mouths of fish. The fish hook removing device has an elongated hollow insertable portion that has an outer end portion and an inner end portion. An elongated straight handle portion depends downwardly at an angle from the inner end portion of the insertable portion. The insertable portion has a straight slot in its upper surface for receiving a portion of the fish line near the hook when the fish line is held tight. After the fish line has been inserted into the slot, the insertable portion is pushed into the mouth of the fish until it contacts the hook. A thumb is then placed over the fish line where the fish line exits from the insertable portion to keep the line tight between that point and the fish hook. A jab toward the mouth of the fish that pushes the insertable member into the fish mouth followed by a pull away from the mouth of the fish while the thumb is held in place removes the hook from the mouth of the fish.

  • Patent number: 5802713
Abstract: A circuit board manufacturing method for manufacturing a printed circuit board with improved characteristics for machine soldering. The circuit board manufacturing method includes the addition of a polyimide "B" semicured material to a printed circuit board prior to preheating and then machine soldering the printed circuit board. The polyimide "B" semicured material retards heat and is used to eliminate the common "hot" and "cold" spots that occur with printed circuit boards during the preheat cycle prior to machine soldering of the printed circuit board. As a result of the heat retardation due to the polyimide "B" state material the circuit board is thoroughly and properly heated during the preheat cycle to eliminate hot and cold spots so that proper machine soldering can occur. A number of different methods are presented and in one method polyimide "B" stage material is used to prevent movement of thermal pads.

  • Patent number: 5718375
Abstract: An auxiliary motor vehicle heating system that supplements the motor vehicle's main heating system. The auxiliary motor vehicle heating system is not dependent upon the same heat energy source as the motor vehicle's main heating system. Consequently, the auxiliary heating system can provide heat when the main heating system is not able to provide heat. This permits the auxiliary motor vehicle heating system to operate and provide heat when the main motor vehicle heating system is not capable of providing heat. Consequently, this invention provides the capability for the windshield and other glass areas of the vehicle to be cleared and heat provided to the occupants of the vehicle even when the motor vehicle engine is not operating and warm. In one embodiment, the heating system is also capable of providing cooling air for cooling as an alternative to heat.

  • Patent number: 5590795
Abstract: A saddle holder that is portable that has the capability of being collapsed to enhance its portability. The saddle holder has a saddle support frame plus two other members that are rotatably connected to the saddle support frame and one of these has a hook member for providing the structure to connect the saddle holder and support from a structure that is external to the saddle holder. The rotatable members also allow the saddle holder to be connected to and supported from a structure external to the saddle holder through a clamping like action when the hook member is not in use and this is adjustable to conform to surfaces that have different contours. Adjustable bracing members are also provided that are associated with the rotatable members that serve to provide for the connection of the saddle holder and its support from an external structure.

  • Patent number: 5517313
Abstract: A fluorescence sensor for detecting the presence and amount of an analyte. The fluorescence sensor has a photodetector, a high pass filter located adjacent the photodetector, and a glass layer located adjacent the high pass filter. An indicator layer is located adjacent the glass layer and a light emitting diode is embedded in the indicator layer. The indicator layer has indicator molecules that provide a fluorescent emission as a result of light from the light emitting diode. The indicator layer also allows an analyte to diffuse into it and the presence of the analyte reduces the amount of light emitted from the indicator molecules that passes through the glass layer and the high pass filter and is incident upon the photodetector. Since the amount of current from the photodetector depends upon the incident light, this is used to detect the presence and amount of the analyte. In one embodiment a waveguide is also present.

  • Patent number: 5494234
Abstract: A sphere and cable deployer apparatus for deploying a cable and associated spheres from a vehicle such as a spinning satellite. The sphere and cable deployer apparatus has a drum for storing the cable that is driven by a drive shaft and gears form a drive motor to deploy the cable and sphere away from the satellite. The drive motor also drives a drive roller through a series of gears and clutch that applies tension to the cable as it is being unwound from the drum. The sphere and cable deployer apparatus also has a housing with an outer and inner pair of shell-like halves that pivot outward due to spring forces to release the spheres. Each pair of pivoting housing halves also provide a storage compartment for a short cable portion that is attached to that sphere.
