  • Patent number: 7699611
Abstract: A device for fastening an orthesis or prosthesis, having a length-adjustable substantially rod-shaped bar assembly, which is pivotably connectable by two ends on exposed first ends of two implants fastened by a second end at a distance from each other in or onto a bone. With this bar assembly, a three-dimensional angle between the longitudinal axis of the bar assembly and the longitudinal axis of at least one implant can be set, so that, irrespective of the distance between and the relative position of the implants, each time, a fitting, preferably stress-free connection between these implants can be effected.

  • Patent number: 7696098
Abstract: A unipolar semiconductor laser is provided in which an active region is sandwiched in a guiding structure between an upper and lower cladding layer, the lower cladding layer being situated on a semiconducting substrate. The unipolar semiconductor laser comprises a raised ridge section running from end to end between end mirrors defining the laser cavity. The ridge section aids in optical and electrical confinement. The ridge waveguide is divided in a plurality of cavity segments (at least two). Lattice structures can be arranged on and/or adjacent to these cavity segments. Each cavity segment is in contact with upper metallic electrodes. A metallic electrode coupled to the bottom surface of the semiconducting substrate facilitates current injection through the device.

  • Patent number: 7689406
Abstract: Method and system for measuring transmission quality of an audio transmission system under test. Specifically, an input signal (X), such as an original input speech signal, is applied to the audio transmission system which results in an output signal (Y) produced by the transmission system. Both signals X and Y are mutually processed to yield a perceived quality signal. In accordance with the invention, output signal Y and/or input signal X are scaled such that, depending on a ratio of power of these two signals, relatively small deviations of power between these signals are compensated, while relatively larger deviations are only partially compensated. Further, an artificial reference speech signal may be created for which noise levels present in the input speech signal are reduced by a scale factor which reflects a local level of the noise in that input signal.

  • Patent number: 7624008
Abstract: Methods and devices for objectively predicting perceptual quality of speech signals degraded in a speech processing/transporting system which may have poor prediction results for degraded signals including extremely weak or silent portions. Improvement is achieved by applying a first scaling step in a pre-processing stage with a first scaling factor which is a function of a reciprocal value of power of the output signal increased by an adjustment value, and by a second scaling step with a second scaling factor which is substantially equal to the first scaling factor raised to an exponential value and with an adjustment value between zero and one. The second scaling step may be performed at various locations in the device. The adjustment values are adjusted using test signals with well-defined subjective quality scores.

  • Patent number: 7614086
Abstract: A monitoring apparatus, a computer program and a network are disclosed for monitoring a representation. The representation comprises a first data string. Subsequently, two or more output strings, based on the first data string, are generated by the monitoring apparatus such that the representative can not be reconstructed from just any of the output strings. The output strings are stored at separate storage locations. Each of the locations has different access rights from the other such that a party, authorized to solely access one such location and retrieve the single output string stored there, is unable to access the other location and retrieve the corresponding output string stored there. Consequently, that party, from just the single output string which it can access and retrieve, is unable to reconstruct the entire representation.

  • Patent number: 7565554
Abstract: Method and system for a service server to provide a service to a client. The client (C) sets up a secure session to an authentication server (CAP) and sends its identifier and a service request stating the required service. The authentication server verifies the client identifier and sends the service request to a service authorization server (DAP). The authorization server checks whether the required service may be provided and sends the authorized service request to the authentication server. The authentication server generates a token, associated with the authorized service request. Via the secure session, the authentication server sends the address of the relevant service server and the token. The client sends the token to the service server, which then sends the token to the authentication server. The authentication server fetches the service request associated with the token and forwards it to the service server, after which the service server gives the client the required service.
