Abstract: The invention described novel compounds of formula ##STR1## wherein the general symbols are as defined in claim 1, as stabilisers for protecting organic materials, in particular polymers and lubricants, against thermal, oxidative or light-induced degradation.

The compounds according to the invention are suitable as stabilizers for textile fiber materials, in particular polyester fiber materials, and for organic polymers. Furthermore, they are suitable for use as sunscreens in cosmetic preparations.

Abstract: Compounds selected from the series consisting of the perylenecarboximide, quinacridone, isoindoline, indigoid, azo, benzodipyrrolone, benzodifuranone, furanofuran, pyrrolo?2,5-b!pyrrole and bianthraquinone chromophores containing at least one grouping of formula ##STR1## wherein each A may be N--CN or O, with the proviso that at least one A must be N--CN, X is --N(R)--, --O-- or --S--, R is hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.18 alkyl, unsubstituted or halogen- or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl-substituted phenyl, benzyl or phenethyl, and m and n are each independently of the other 0 or 1.Depending on the nature of their substituents, these compounds can be used as polymer-soluble dyes or as pigments for coloring high molecular weight organic material. C. to +25.degree. C., all molar amounts being based on 100 mol % of ester carbonate of formula (II).

Abstract: An aqueous composition for the pretanning of hide pelts or for the retanning of leather comprises (A) an aliphatic dialdehyde containing 2 to 8 carbon atoms, (B) an anionic aromatic tanning agent, (C) water and, if desired, (D) an acid. The leather tanned or pretanned with this aqueous composition exhibits a good degree of whiteness and has a high shrinkage temperature.

C.A and B are, for example, each a group of formula ##STR2## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are each independently hydrogen, chloro, bromo, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkoxy, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkylamino, phenyl or --CN, G is --O--, --NR.sub.7 --, --N.dbd.N-- or --SO.sub.2 --, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are hydrogen, and R.sub.7 is hydrogen, methyl or ethyl.The mixed crystals and solid solutions obtained are excellently suited for pigmenting high molecular weight material.
