  • Patent number: 6306412
Abstract: An adhesive cosmetic strip is provided which includes a flexible water-insoluble substrate, an adhesive composition deposited onto the substrate and an agent interactive with water present in a sufficient quantity to induce a change of temperature of the strip. When applied to the skin, the strip is warmed by a reaction between water and an exothermic or endothermic agent held within the strip. Moisture within the skin or externally applied water penetrates the strip and will react with the agent to cause an increase or decrease in temperature.

  • Patent number: 6302921
Abstract: A method for bleaching stained fabrics is provided by washing a stained fabric in an aqueous wash liquor in the presence of a wash additive that comprises a ligand that forms a transition metal complex as bleach catalyst, the complex catalysing bleaching of stains by atmospheric oxygen. The wash additive preferably comprises an iron complex comprising the ligand N,N-bis(pyridin-2-yl-methyl)-1,1-bis(pyridin-2-yl)-1-aminoethane. One or both of the wash additive and the wash liquor are substantially devoid of peroxygen bleach or a peroxy-based or -generating bleach system. The wash additive provides improved or broader stain profile bleaching.

  • Patent number: 6293284
Abstract: A method and apparatus is provided for virtual color makeover of a customer's face. A digital image is taken of the customer's face. Natural skin color is determined by a differential analysis among at least two different sites along the face to identify an area without color. The identified area without color is then used as a basis for projecting the customer's face with the natural skin color. Consultant's choice of preprogrammed color palettes matching the measured natural skin color is then projected on the facial image. A customer's personal choice such as fashion, natural or go-to-work looks can be registered for modifying the consultant's choice color palette. The selected color palette can then be identified as a set of color cosmetic products which are provided to the customer.

  • Patent number: 6287582
Abstract: A disposable towelette product is provided which includes a flexible water-insoluble substrate such as a tissue impregnated with an alpha- or beta-hydroxycarboxylic acid in a cosmetically acceptable carrier vehicle. Impregnated cosmetic composition in water will have a pH no higher than 6.8. A silicone microemulsion is present to minimize any stickiness resulting from deposition of the hydroxycarboxylic acid by the towelette onto the skin. In the presence of fatty acid group containing surfactants, the silicone microemulsion controls foul odors that the surfactants may emit through hydrolysis at low pH.

  • Patent number: 6270783
Abstract: An adhesive cosmetic strip is provided which includes a flexible water-insoluble substrate, an adhesive composition deposited onto the substrate, a liquid crystal thermochromic substance, and an agent interactive with water to ensure a temperature rise of at least 2° C. in the strip. The thermochromic substance may be impregnated into the substrate or dispersed within the adhesive composition. When applied to the skin, the strip is warmed by a reaction between water and an exothermic or endothermic agent held within the strip. Moisture within the skin or externally applied water penetrates the strip and will react with the agent to cause an increase in temperature. Subsequently this increase in temperature will induce a color change in the thermochromic substance.

  • Patent number: 6270780
Abstract: Resveratrol, a component of a variety of common edible plants, including peanuts and red grapes, is a phytoestrogen. Resveratrol inhibits proliferation of skin epidermal cells (keratinocytes) and stimulates their differentiation. Resveratrol was also found to inhibit melanin production by skin cells and to alleviate skin irritation that may be caused by alpha-hydroxy acids. Resveratrol is useful in improving the appearance of wrinkled, lined, dry, flaky, aged or photodamaged skin and improving skin thickness, elasticity, flexibility, radiance, glow and plumpness.
