Abstract: An adhesive strip, particularly for application to the nose, is provided which includes a holding member layer and deposited thereon a cosmetic material layer. Structurally the strip includes an upper edge and lower edge. A centrally located receding portion is featured along the upper edge and is flanked on either side by a continuously curving wing portion extending to a respective side edge of the strip. Along the lower edge is a centrally located downwardly projecting portion flanked on each side by downwardly sloping wing portions. The shape is designed to avoid discomfort associated with known strips when they are peeled away from the membrane areas immediately below the eye.

Abstract: Hair conditioning formulations containing a particular combination of cationic surfactants, have improved hair care benefits while maintaining excellent in-use characteristics. The compositions contain a first cationic surfactant such as cetyl trimethyl ammonium chloride, stearyl trimethyl ammonium chloride and behenyl trimethyl ammonium chloride. A second hydrophilically substituted cationic surfactant such as cocamidopropyl-N-2-hydroxyethylcarbamoylmethyldimethylammonium chloride, and a lipid material such as cetyl alcohol. Although formulations of the invention are based principally on cationic surfactant, and generally contain no anionic or amphoteric surfactant, they provide an acceptable level of cleaning and lathering whilst still conveying the wet slippy feel desired by consumers in connection with conventional hair conditioners.

Abstract: A method of treating a textile such as a laundry fabric is provided, in which the textile is contacted with a specified organic substance which forms a complex with a transition metal, whereby the complex catalyses bleaching of the textile by atmospheric oxygen after the treatment. The organic substance may be used in dry form, or in a liquor that is then dried, such as an aqueous spray-on fabric treatment fluid or a wash liquor for laundry cleaning, or a non-aqueous dry cleaning fluid or spray-on aerosol fluid. The method can confer cleaning benefits to the textile after the treatment. Also provided is a dry textile having an organic substance applied or deposited thereon, whereby bleaching by atmospheric oxygen is catalysed on the textile.

The dosing pump may comprise an operating button, and two or more liquid, gel, slurry and/or paste dispensing assemblies. The dosing pump of the present invention may have a flap valve assembly situated within plates between the liquid, gel slurry and/or paste assembly, and the container, which carries the liquid, gel, slurry and/or paste.

A method of bleaching a substrate is provided that comprises applying to the substrate, in an aqueous medium, a specified organic substance which forms a complex with a transition metal, the complex catalysing bleaching of the substrate by atmospheric oxygen and a peroxyl species. Also provided is a bleaching composition comprising, in an aqueous medium, atmospheric oxygen and an organic substance which forms a complex with a transition metal, the complex catalysing bleaching of the substrate by the atmospheric oxygen, wherein the aqueous medium is provided with a peroxygen bleach or a peroxy-based or peroxy-generating bleach system.

Abstract: A substantially flexible, dry matrix, which contains not more than about 3% moisture at room temperature, is impregnated with a water free treatment mixture containing a lipid and a surfactant. In a preferred embodiment, the mixture includes a glycol, a surfactant and a lipid emollient, lubricant, medicament or skin protectant. Methods of manufacturing and using the impregnated matrices are also taught.

Abstract: The present invention relates to an aqueous opaque hair conditioner which comprises a monoalkyl quat from C14 to higher Carbon chain lengths (preferably C16 to C22) and a dialkyl quat which is a mixture of C16, C16 dialkyl quat and C18, C18 dialkyl quat. Also included is an amount of fatty alcohol to opacify the conditioner. Optionally, a silicone compound may be included. The monoalkyl quat may be in a ratio to the dialkyl quat of about 15:1 to about 2:1. The carbon chain lengths within the dialkyl quat are present in a weight ratio of about 1:3 to about 3:1 of C16,C16 to C18, C18. The fatty alcohol may be present in an amount from about 1% to about 10%.

Abstract: A wiping article is provided which includes an effervescent cleanser composition held within a pouch formed from a first and second substrate sheet. At least one of the substrate sheets must be water permeable. The effervescent composition is an intimate mixture of an acid material such as citric acid and an alkaline material such as sodium bicarbonate. Water contact causes the combination to effervesce. A dry surfactant such as sodium cocoyl isethionate in contact with the water and effervescing carbon dioxide results in a highly pleasant sudsing system. Skin benefit agents may be included within the composition. The effervescent action may improve deposition of the skin benefit agents onto the skin.

Abstract: A packaged effervescent product is provided which includes a sachet surrounded by an outer package film sealing the sachet against water vapor transmission. The sachet is a cosmetic article which includes an effervescent cleansing composition of an acid material such as citric add and an alkaline material such as sodium bicarbonate. The composition is held within the sealed sachet or pouch. At least one wall of the pouch is water permeable. The outer package film is formed of a material which must have a breathability for carbon dioxide. Any carbon dioxide generated during storage is thereby allowed to slowly diffuse into the atmosphere while still minimizing the amount of water which may enter the package.

Abstract: Hair conditioning shampoo compositions are provided which contain a combination of conditioning agents including emulsified silicones, cationic polymers and certain fatty acid polyesters of polyols. Suitable fatty acid polyesters are sucrose pentalaurate, sucrose tetraoleate, sucrose pentaerucate, sucrose tetraerucate, sucrose tetrastearate, sucrose pentaoleate, sucrose octaoleate, sucrose pentatallowate, sucrose trirapeate, sucrose tetrarapeate, sucrose pentarapeate, sucrose tristearate and sucrose pentastearate, and mixtures thereof. The compositions give improved hair conditioning benefits, especially to hair which has been damaged, e.g. through environmental exposure or harsh mechanical or chemical treatments such as heat styling, perming or bleaching.
