  • Patent number: 7521496
Abstract: A phosphate-phosphonate compound which is lowly volatile, has a high phosphorus content, and does not influence various properties of a product when used as a material therefor. It is reduced in environmental burden in view of suitability for recycling and contains no halogen atoms including chlorine and bromine. The phosphorus compound has a phosphate-phosphonate bond within the molecule and has a specific ring structure. Because of this, the compound has excellent flame retardancy. Addition of the phosphate-phosphonate compound as a flame retardant for polyurethanes or polyesters imparts satisfactory plasticity and flame retardancy. The flame retardant is reduced in the exertion of adverse influences on the material properties of, in particular, polyurethane foams, polyester fibers, and the like.

  • Patent number: 7503488
Abstract: According to one aspect, the detailed technology concerns assessment of the fraud risk presented by an applicant for a driver's license, based on a particular ensemble of information presented by the applicant. For example, certain collateral identification documents presented by the applicant (birth certificate, passport, student body ID card, etc.)—or certain combinations of documents—may be found to have relatively higher or lower historical incidences of fraud associated therewith. Based on such historical insight, the issuing agency can tailor its scrutiny of the applicant accordingly. In one arrangement a score is determined based on the presented information. If it falls below a threshold, extra verification checks can be undertaken, such as querying additional third party databases (credit bureaus, military discharge records, etc.). An automated system may guide the evaluation process, based on the particular ensemble of information presented, and on the results of any database queries.

  • Patent number: 7485145
Abstract: An artificial intervertebral disc assembly including upper and lower end plates, an expandable bladder carried by the end plates and circumscribing a containment area therebetween. A biocompatible fluid is disposed within the containment area. A cylinder having a plurality of apertures therein projects from the lower plate into the containment area. A piston having a curvilinear upper surface is reciprocally moveable within the cylinder and projects from the open end thereof. A cylindrical projection depending from the upper plate bears against and mates with the upper surface of the piston so as to allow relative rotational movement of the end plates into and out of parallel alignment. By varying the size of the apertures in the cylinder and the elasticity of the bladder, the amount of axial load necessary to effect inward movement of the end plates can be varied.

  • Patent number: 7482389
Abstract: A nanoporous material exhibiting a lamellar structure is disclosed. The material comprises three or more substantially parallel sheets of an organosilicate material, separated by highly porous spacer regions. The distance between the centers of the sheets lies between 1 nm and 50 nm. The highly porous spacer regions may be substantially free of condensed material. For the manufacture of such materials, a process is disclosed in which matrix non-amphiphilic polymeric material and templating polymeric material are dispersed in a solvent, where the templating polymeric material includes a polymeric amphiphilic material. The solvent with the polymeric materials is distributed onto a substrate. Organization is induced in the templating polymeric material. The solvent is removed, leaving the polymeric materials in place. The matrix polymeric material is cured, forming a lamellar structure.

  • Patent number: 7457398
Abstract: The present invention relates to methods and systems for providing voicemail services having expanded functionality. One embodiment of the invention saves a copy of messages sent in the sender's mailbox. Methods and systems, according to this embodiment, mark a message sent as a ‘sent message’ and store the sent message in a standard message store. These methods and systems can present a full set of sent messages (sent within a configured time interval, 30 days for example) upon a specific request for sent messages. In one embodiment, a user can access these sent messages by accessing the sent message folder. Embodiments of the invention also provide a method for determining the other (if any) recipients of a received voice message. Methods and systems according to one embodiment store a full list of recipients with a message. Thus, a system according to this embodiment can present the list of recipients to the subscriber when it retrieves a message.

  • Patent number: 7456219
Abstract: The present invention provides methods of selectively inducing terminal differentiation, cell growth arrest and/or apoptosis of neoplastic cells, and/or inhibiting histone deacetylase (HDAC) by administration of pharmaceutical compositions comprising potent HDAC inhibitors. The oral bioavailability of the active compounds in the pharmaceutical compositions of the present invention is surprisingly high. Moreover, the pharmaceutical compositions unexpectedly give rise to high, therapeutically effective blood levels of the active compounds over an extended period of time. The present invention further provides a safe, daily dosing regimen of these pharmaceutical compositions, which is easy to follow, and which results in a therapeutically effective amount of the HDAC inhibitors in vivo. The present invention also provides a novel Form I polymorph of SAHA, characterized by a unique X-ray diffraction pattern and Differential Scanning Calorimetry profile, as well a unique crystalline structure.

  • Patent number: 7451108
Abstract: Management of financial transactions involves defining the process as a series information transfers needed by parties to settle the transaction. A system measure the performance of participants in the management process, tracks information transferred between the parties and records a time the information is transferred. Information including time information is used to determine measures of performance. These measures of performance can include the amount of time between completion of any steps in the management process, e.g., from the time when transaction was initiated (e.g. a trade is executed) to the time the information to be transmitted to or received by any of the participants to the management process or the management system in any of the steps of the management process. The performance information can be compiled into predefined reports which allow a party to compare the performance of counterparties with which the party had completed transactions.
