  • Patent number: 7546680
Abstract: A method and associated equipment for replacing existing overhead transmission line conductors with new ones while the transmission line remains in service and carrying power. The invention uses the old conductor to pull the new conductor through a series of sheaves installed at the bottom of each tower insulator. Conventional tension-stringing principles are used to assure that both the old and new conductors maintain a safe distance from ground. To achieve this, both the pulling and tensioning (braking) equipment, as well as supply and take-up reels or drums may be elevated to power line voltage and the current is transferred between new conductor and old, while in transit to the line, by means of a brush system and a conducting wheel which may or may not be integral with pulling and tensioning equipment.

  • Patent number: 7429466
Abstract: Arrays and methods for detecting one or more biological molecules, where the methods generally comprise the steps of: providing a first support immobilized with one or more reagents; providing a second support immobilized with one or more of ligands; contacting the reagents immobilized to the first support with the ligands immobilized on the second support whereby one or more of the reagents bind to one or more of the ligands; and separating the first support from the second support so that one or more of the bound reagents remain bound to one or more ligands on the second support after separation. In one preferred method, proteins are immobilized on a support with adequate strength so that the proteins can be dissociated from the support under certain conditions, such as after binding with other proteins immobilized on another support.

  • Patent number: 7428241
Abstract: An improved medium access protocol is divided into two tasks: collision avoidance and contention resolution. The purpose of the collision avoidance is to avoid occasional collisions due to the synchronization of channel access among different stations. The purpose of contention resolution is to control the overall sending rate of competing stations when the shared channel is operating at or near its capacity limits, such that excessive collisions can be avoided. Contention resolution methods in accordance with the present invention include a graceful rate control mechanism.

  • Patent number: 7408367
Abstract: A micro Kelvin probe assembly and method of accomplishing a micro Kelvin measurement that determines the resistance or impedance of a device under test (DUT) that has two spaced contacts. An ammeter is used to flow current through the DUT, and a voltmeter is used to measure the voltage drop across the DUT. There is a printed circuit board (PCB) carrying two pairs of contacts, with a trace leading to each contact. Anisotropic conductive elastomer (ACE) material as an electrical interposer is placed in electrical contact with each of the PCB contacts. The DUT is placed on the ACE such that each DUT contact is directly opposite one pair of PCB contacts. The ammeter is connected to one trace leading to one contact of each pair of PCB contacts to flow current through the DUT, and the voltmeter is connected to the other trace leading to the other contact of each pair of PCB contacts, so that voltmeter can measure the voltage drop across the DUT without an effect caused by the interposer.
