  • Patent number: 7371399
Abstract: Formulations and methods for treating joints, such as temporomandibular joint disorders, osteoarthritis of the knee, hip and other types of inflammatory joint diseases. The method involves identifying specific matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) that may be responsible for degrading the soft tissues of the joint in question, identifying the specific component of the joint the MMP(s) are targeting, and injecting a polymer gel with the component the MMP(s) seek to destroy, thus preserving the joint and allowing time to heal. These formulations typically require a mixture of glycosoaminoglycans and collagen proteins. One formulation in particular includes both hyaluronic acid and at least type I collagen.

  • Patent number: 7372246
Abstract: A system and method for determining the relative phase between current-carrying conductors. A reference unit samples and digitizes a voltage waveform at a reference location and transmits the digitized voltage waveform. A field sampling unit is placed on or directly adjacent a field conductor at a field location and transmits a signal representative of the voltage waveform of the field conductor. A field unit receives and digitizes the waveform received from the field sampling unit, and receives the digitized voltage waveform from the reference unit, and compares the digitized field waveform and the digitized reference waveform.

  • Patent number: 7370319
Abstract: A method for regulating execution of an application program includes a process for preparing the application and a process for executing the application. The preparation process divides the application program into related segments and encrypts instructions of at least one segment. The preparation process positions encrypted instructions in at least two discontiguous regions within an executable file and associates header information with at least one discontiguous region. The header identifies a decryption key and the location of the other discontiguous region. The resulting execution file thus has portions that would not execute and would cause an operating system to call a responsive process. The execution process initiates execution of the protected application when at least a portion of the application instructions are available to the computer only in encrypted form. The user is authenticated, after which the encrypted portions can be decrypted and execution resumed.

  • Patent number: 7356922
Abstract: Three magnetic substrates are provided, the first substrate forms the rotor and the other two form the outer stator. A series of spaced concentric grooves and spaced spiral grooves are formed in the central region of both faces of the first substrate. A hole is placed at the center of the spiral grooves, and filled with magnetic material. A conductor is then deposited into the spiral grooves, forming a central wheel. A series of spaced serpentine grooves and generally radial grooves are formed on each active face of the other two substrates. A conductor is then deposited into the serpentine grooves, and a magnetic material is deposited into the generally radial grooves. The two outer substrates are then bonded against the first substrate such that the outer end of each magnetic path overlays a filled hole in the first substrate, creating the stator of an axial air gap reluctance motor.

  • Patent number: 7337615
Abstract: A water generating device utilizing thermoelectric cooling, also known as Peltier technology, for obtaining potable water from ambient air inside or outside a structure or dwelling, having a unique continuous duct for bringing this supply of ambient air to the device and for releasing the air back outside the device after it has been processed. This device includes a cold sink with which the incoming air is cooled below the dew point to condense the existing water vapor. The cooled air is then redirected over the heat sink which increases the efficiency and cooling capability of the device over that of using only the warmer ambient air to cool the heat sink. The rate of air flow is controlled by the variable speed of one or more fans or blowers. The fan or blower speed in turn is controlled by a device that determines the current ambient dew point by measuring the temperature and relative humidity, and the temperature of the cold sink.

  • Patent number: 7337065
Abstract: This invention discloses several improved methods of correcting for atmospheric effects on a remote image of the Earth's surface taken from above, wherein the image comprises a number of simultaneously acquired images of the same scene, each including a large number of pixels, each at a different wavelength band, and including infrared through ultraviolet wavelengths. One method is for retrieving the aerosol/haze amount (i.e., visible range) from an assumed ratio of in-band reflectances, rather than from an assumed reflectance value. Another method is for identifying cloud-containing pixels. This is used to improve the calculation of the spatially averaged radiance L*e and reflectance ?e images in standard equations. Another method greatly reduces the number of mathematical operations required to generate the reflectance values.

  • Patent number: 7282572
Abstract: A method for expressing proteins as a fusion chimera with a domain of p26 or alpha crystallin type proteins to improve the protein stability and solubility when over expressed in bacteria such as E. coli is provided. Genes of interest are cloned into the multiple cloning site of the Vector System just downstream of the p26 or alpha crystallin type protein and a thrombin cleavage site. Protein expression is driven by a strong bacterial promoter (TAC). The expression is induced by the addition of 1 mM IPTG that overcomes the lac repression (lac Iq). The soluble recombinant protein is purified using a fusion tag.
