  • Patent number: 4536613
Abstract: A cable clamp assembly comprises a bushing member adapted to receive an electrical power cable, tubing or the like, has a pair of jaw members adapted to fit through a cable entry port in the wall of an outlet box. One jaw is fixedly secured to the bushing while the other is formed on a movable arm member. A lug portion of the bushing provides a cavity which serves as a guide for travel of the arm and a threaded fastener passes through the lug and threadably engages the arm to move the arm. A biasing member associated between the bushing and the screw urges the arm member away from the fixed jaw. The biasing means may be generally U-shaped and located generally over the lug, with the free ends of its leg portions abutting the exterior of the bushing member and an aperture in its base portion to receive the screw.

  • Patent number: 4533606
Abstract: The present invention provides an aqueous composition and process for the electrodeposition of a layer of zinc containing silicon and phosphorus on a metal substrate. The electrodeposition composition is prepared by reacting metallic silicon and zinc with phosphoric acid and an alkali metal hydroxide in the ratio of between 0.4 and 1.3 moles of alkali metal hydroxide per mole of phosphoric acid, and adjusting the solution to a pH of 2 or higher after completion of the reaction. The coating is deposited on the metal substrate by electrodeposition and comprises about 70% to about 99.5% by weight of zinc, and about 0.10% to about 10% by weight of silicon, and about 0.5% to about 20% by weight of phosphorus. The resultant zinc/silicon/phosphorus coating improves the resistance of the metal substrate to corrosion, wear, galling and stress corrosion cracking.

  • Patent number: 4531035
Abstract: In an induction welding process for metal tubing, an impeder having a fiberglass sleeve and an exposed ferrite core is used to concentrate the flow of current along a seam to be welded. The sleeve at its upstream end is connected to a brass fitting which couples a source of coolant to the impeder. The sleeve is loosely connected to the ferrite core by a pin and the ferrite core is exposed and protrudes from the downstream end of the sleeve, thereby allowing the ferrite core to be placed in close proximity to the welding point of the metal tubing. As coolant flows over the exposed end of the ferrite core, it both cools and cleans the exposed end of the ferrite core.

  • Patent number: 4529477
Abstract: The process and device in accordance with the present invention allow the simple and economic manufacture of printed circuit boards, wherein the metal of the conductors as well as the one covering the hole walls is identical with the metal being etched away from the areas between the conductors.According to this process, a one-or two-sided metal-coated base material is used which, upon production of the hole pattern, is provided in a known manner with a metal layer of desired thickness, covering the surface of the metal foil as well as the hole walls. Subsequently, a masking layer is applied by screen printing a positive image of the desired circuit pattern on the surface(s). In the following process step, the holes are filled with an ink by means of a screen printing stencil. In accordance with one embodiment of the invention, the ink used forms an etch-resistant surface film when drying. Upon etching, the masking layer as well as the surface film and the hole fillings are removed with a suitable solvent.

  • Patent number: 4529417
Abstract: This invention relates to a process for the isothermal absorption of the ethylene oxide contained in the gas from an ethylene oxide production plant. This process is characterized in that the gas is firstly cooled to a temperature of between 5.degree. and 60.degree. C., and is then fed at a pressure which can vary from 1 to 30 atm. to a water-fed isothermal film absorber, from the bottom of which is obtained a high concentration ethylene oxide solution which can be fed directly to a glycol production plant after recovering the ethylene still in solution.By using this process, the absorption plant is simplified compared with known processes, and steam, electricity and cooling water consumption are considerably reduced.

  • Patent number: 4526388
Abstract: A one-piece, self-lubricating thermoplastic sealing ring is disclosed. The sealing ring provides two separate wiping actions on a reciprocating and/or rotating shaft when mounted thereon and can be easily placed on or removed from the shaft without disassembling the entire machine in which the shaft is located. Two radial cuts in oppositely facing radial walls of the ring intersect opposite ends, respectively, of a transverse cut along a circumferential wall of the ring. The three cuts enable the ring to be twisted open and placed around the shaft while both ends of the shaft are fixed in position, then closed about the shaft, before being inserted into a seal housing. A seal ring retainer may be used to control the pressure the seal exerts on the shaft.

  • Patent number: 4525633
Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling the level of power transferred through a stand-alone wind power generating system utilizing a wind turbine whose output is converted to electrical power by means of an induction generator are disclosed. In the disclosed system, the velocity of the wind incident upon the blade of the turbine is sensed by a velocity sensor. This information is then used to vary the excitation frequency applied to the generator to adjust the shaft speed of the turbine in proportion to the change in wind velocity. The excitation frequency is adjusted in accordance with a control algorithm so that the power output of the system is equal to a maximum fraction of available wind power at wind velocities below a pre-determined power/velocity point.
