  • Patent number: 4867899
Abstract: Detergent bars, intended for personal use, which are of good foaming, lather, solubility, wear, slough, hardness, mildness (to the skin) and tactile characteristics, and which are homogeneous so that users of such bars will detect no surface grittiness on washing with them, even in cold water, include in the composition thereof, water soluble higher fatty monoglyceride sulfate, water soluble higher fatty acid soap and higher fatty acid, preferably of certain types and in certain proportions. Such bars may be made by a manufacturing process, in a step of which the higher fatty acid soap and higher fatty acid are dissolved in an aqueous lower alcoholic extractant solution of the water soluble higher fatty monoglyceride sulfate.

  • Patent number: 4861507
Abstract: Toilet soap bars, preferably milled and plodded, made from topped, distilled coco fatty acid, which is partially saponified, are superior to tallow-coco soaps and palm oil-palm kernel oil soaps in foaming properties and lather generation, especially in cold water, and are milder to the hands. Yet, such soaps, despite being made entirely from topped, distilled coco fatty acid, are desirably plastic, which improves ease of manufacture and inhibits development of brittleness and any accompanying tendency of soap bars made to crack during drying after use. The invented soaps are milder than the "control" soaps, made from mixtures of coconut oil with tallow or palm kernel oil, which may be due in part to an appreciably lower pH. Despite not containing as much of longer chain higher fatty acid soaps as the "control" bars, the invented bars were considered by an evaluation panel not to slough significantly more than the control bars and not to crack or split any more than the control bars.

  • Patent number: 4860464
Abstract: A foot support structure attached to the outsole of a shoe to provide support to the medial arch and to girth the midfoot in a sling configuration is disclosed. The support structure includes a plurality of sling straps attached to the outsole in positions beneath the upper and lower columns of the foot. In one embodiment, the sling straps which are attached beneath the upper, medial column are mounted in an arcuate slot in the upper surface of the outsole. The sling straps attached beneath the lower, lateral column are mounted in a linear slot in the upper surface of the outsole. By the present invention, the position of the foot relative to the shoe is maintained due to anchoring of the transverse sling in the outsole, and this is accomplished without pulling or pushing the medial longitudinal arch to the shoe. the sling straps are positioned relative to the outsole so as to coincide with certain anatomical landmarks of the foot. The straps are each capable of being adjusted for length independently.

  • Patent number: 4857223
Abstract: A non-caking, non-tacky and free-flowing particulate bleaching detergent composition includes a synthetic organic nonionic detergent, such as a polyethoxylated higher fatty alcohol or alkylphenol, a builder for the nonionic detergent, such as sodium tripolyphosphate, sodium silicate, sodium carbonate or a cation-exchanging sodium aluminosilicate (zeolite), or mixtures thereof, together with a sodium perborate hydrate bleaching agent, the degree of hydration of which corresponds to that of the monohydrate or less, such as 12 to 15%. The described composition, unlike similar compositions wherein the sodium perborate hydrate is the tetrahydrate, are non-caking, non-tacky and free-flowing after storage in a sealed container at elevated temperature, e.g., four weeks at 43.degree. C., whereas a similar product in which the sodium perborate hydrate is the tetrahydrate is caked solid after such treatment.

  • Patent number: 4853259
Abstract: A particulate built nonionic synthetic organic detergent composition includes a detersive proportion of a nonionic synthetic organic detergent and a building proportion, in combination, of a polyacetal carboxylate builder for the nonionic detergent and carbonate and bicarbonate builders for such nonionic detergent. Such compositions are readily made by adding polyacetal carboxylate builder to the formula of a control detergent composition, with corresponding diminutions of other component(s), and have detersive powers superior to such control despite the decrease in proportions present of detergent and other builders. Preferably, certain nonionic detergents, polyacetal carboxylate builders, carbonate and bicarbonate, in certain proportions, are employed to make a product of better detergency and physical characteristics, e.g., flowability.

  • Patent number: 4853147
Abstract: A liquid dishwashing detergent composition for hand washing of dishes in cold water includes a synthetic organic nonionic detergent, a cationic surface active agent, a water soluble C.sub.21 dicarboxylic salt and an aqueous medium. The proportion of the combination of nonionic detergent and cationic surface active agent is a detersive proportion, useful to remove fatty deposits on dishes, and the proportion of the C.sub.21 dicarboxylic salt is sufficient to improve the detersive action in cold water of the combination of nonionic detergent and cationic surfactant so that the composition better removes fatty deposits on dishes being washed.

  • Patent number: 4851137
Abstract: Bentonite agglomerates are made which are suitable for use as a particulate fabric softener for softening washed laundry, especially when incorporated in detergent compositions by mixing with spray dried beads containing essential detergent composition components. Such agglomerates are in the Nos. 10-100 sieve range and are agglomerates of finely divided bentonite. The agglomerates are of a bulk density in the range of 0.7 to 0.9 g./ml., a moisture content of 8 to 13% and a frangibility less than 30, and include 1 to 5% of a binder (sodium silicate). Also disclosed is a method for making the bentonite agglomerates by spraying an aqueous solution of the binder onto moving surfaces of finely divided bentonite until the moisture content thereof is elevated and the amount of binder for the agglomerate is sufficient, and drying the agglomerated particles to their "equilibrium moisture range".

  • Patent number: 4848598
Abstract: A dispensing device of the hand-help pump type has an internal piston which is pulled up by a rod passing through the piston, which rod is moved by an actuator. When the contents of the piston are emptied, in order to attach a refill, a dog release mechanism operates to release the dogs which, in normal use when the device is full, function to prevent the piston from being drawn downwardly so that the piston can be removed to allow attachment of the refill which has a new piston.
