  • Patent number: 4554945
Abstract: The fuel injection apparatus includes fuel a fuel metering chamber, an air supply chamber and a further chamber formed in a rigid body. A metering member is slidable within the fuel and gas chambers and passes through the further chamber. The amount of fuel fed to the metering chamber via valve means is controlled by the position of the metering member. An increase in pressure in the air supply chamber opens a valved passage in the metering member and the air expels the fuel from the metering chamber via check valve means. The further chamber collects any leakage of air or fuel past bearing means that receives the metering member.

  • Patent number: 4553326
Abstract: A chain saw safety braking assembly includes a sensing arm pivotally mounted to the housing and having a protrusion. A portion of the sensing arm is located in front of the gripping handle and is arranged to move from a first position to a second position in response to being struck by an appendage of the operator. A flexible brake band is disposed around the peripheral surface of a brake drum, and includes a first end anchored to the housing and a second end coupled to the sensing arm protrusion, such that when the sensing arm moves from the first position to the second position the flexible brake band is moved from a position free of the brake drum to a frictional braking relationship with the brake drum. A latch is rotatably mounted to the housing and is adapted to releasably engage the protrusion on the sensing arm. A spring anchored to the housing cooperates with the latch such that the latch yieldably holds the sensing arm in either the first or the second position.

  • Patent number: 4553662
Abstract: An apparatus for the centered feeding of pieces of laundry to a conveyor comprises a support for hangingly supporting a piece of laundry to be fed to the conveyor, the support is reciprocally movable parallel to the centerline of the conveyor between a first position where a front face of the support is in front of the conveyor and a second position where the front face is disposed above the conveyor. The support comprises a hollow body with a front face formed by a belt with apertures therethrough. The belt is movable transversely of the conveyor centerline and the hollow body. A vacuum source is connected to the hollow body through a valve. Application of vacuum pressure to the hollow body allows an edge of a piece of laundry to be held against the apertured belt. Transverse movement of the belt allows centering of the piece of laundry with respect to the conveyor centerline.

  • Patent number: 4552239
Abstract: In the four-wheeled vehicle, both the front and rear wheels are turned in response to operation of the steering wheel. The turning angle of the rear wheels is controlled in accordance with a turning angle ratio characteristic curve defined on a .theta.F-.theta.R plane wherein .theta.F and .theta.R respectively represent the turning angles of the front and rear wheels. The turning angle ratio characteristic curve is substantially a broken line having a positive inclination in the region where the value of the front wheel turning angle .theta.F is smaller than a predetermined value and having a smaller inclination in the region where the value of the front wheel turning angle .theta.F is larger than the predetermined value. The turning angle ratio characteristic curve is changed according to the vehicle speed so that the turning angle ratio .theta.R/.theta.F is increased as the vehicle speed increases.

  • Patent number: 4550994
Abstract: An automatic focusing device for a cine camera operates so that the speed at which the lens is moved to its optimum focusing position decreases as a perfect focus is reached. A comparator determines how far out of focus the system is, and a pulse width modulator provides a zero to 100% energization signal to the servo control circuit. The farther the system is out of focus, the larger percentage energization signal from the pulse width modulator and the faster the lens will be moved toward the optimum position.

  • Patent number: 4550499
Abstract: A flexible line vegetation trimmer is disclosed, wherein the trimmer includes a conventional line cutting element mounted for rotation about an axis to define a cutting path, a debris shield mounted above at least an arc of the cutting path, and a cutting blade on the debris shield for cutting segments from the line to reduce the line length to a predetermined distance. In this generally conventional line trimmer the present invention provides a cut line pocket mounted below the debris shield, and having the cutting blade mounted at the mouth thereof, with the cut line pocket catching the segments of line cut from the line by the cutting blade. The cut segments are trapped in the cut line pocket, thereby reducing if not eliminating the danger of the cut segments striking a person or animal in the vicinity of the operating line trimmer.
