  • Patent number: 7301397
Abstract: A delay mismatched feed forward power amplifier is disclosed. Loop 1 includes a main amplifier and is used to derive a carrier cancelled sample of the main amplifier output. Loop 2 includes an error amplifier used to amplify the carrier cancelled signal derived from Loop 1 operation in order to cancel distortion products generated due to the nonlinear nature of the main amplifier. Loop 2 also utilizes a very short Loop 2 delay line. A significant efficiency gain is provided due to reduced output power losses associated with the Loop 2 delay line. Lower output losses also results in lower distortion levels produced by the main amplifier. This, in turn, reduces the size and performance requirements placed on the error amplifier. A smaller and more efficient error amplifier is employed resulting in further amplifier system efficiency improvement. The delay mismatch is compensated by a third control loop, a special adaptive control algorithm or a combination thereof.

  • Patent number: 7295648
Abstract: A radiation therapy/surgery device optimised to meet the needs of the Neurosurgeon is provided, i.e. one for the treatment of tumours in the brain. It combines the qualities of a good penumbra and accuracy, simple prescription and operation, together with high reliability and minimal technical support. The device comprises a rotateable support, on which is provided a mount extending from the support out of the plane of the circle, and a radiation source attached to the mount via a pivot, the pivot having an axis which passes through the axis of rotation of the support, the radiation source being aligned so as to produce a beam which passes through the co-incidence of the rotation axis and the pivot. It will generally be easier to engineer the apparatus if the rotateable support is planar, and more convenient if the rotateable support is disposed in an upright position. The rotation of the rotateable support will be eased if this part of the apparatus is circular.

  • Patent number: 7289163
Abstract: An improved method for color transient enhancement in an input video frame of pixels. The luminance value of a current pixel is compared to that of neighboring pixels. A correction value is determined and the chrominance value of the current pixel is “pushed” towards the neighboring pixel that has a luminance value closest to that of the current pixel, by adding the correction value to the current pixel's chrominance value. The original video frame is also separately processed using a CTI method, and the current pixel's corrected chrominance value is combined with the corresponding pixel in the output of the CTI processing by soft switching unit to generate an output video frame that is an enhanced version of the input video frame.

  • Patent number: 7289773
Abstract: A method and apparatus for digital predistortion of power amplifiers are disclosed. Successful digital predistortion parameter settings are correlated with the operating conditions that affect the distortion of an amplifier. These operating conditions may include input power level, carrier frequency, temperature, DC supply voltage, or others. The successful predistortion parameter settings along with the corresponding operating conditions are stored in a list that is indexed using multi-dimensional attribute vectors. The elements of the list are generated automatically.

  • Patent number: 7279761
Abstract: A MEMS device which utilizes a capacitive sensor or actuator is enhancement by initially fabricating the capacitive assembly which comprises the sensor or actuator as two sets of interdigitated fingers in a noninterdigitated configuration. One of the two sets of fingers is coupled to a movable stage. The stage is moved from an initial position to a post-release position in which the two sets of interdigitated fingers are interdigitated with each other. The stage is carried by two pairs flexures which maintain the stability of motion of the stage and when in the post-release position provide stiffness which prevents deflection of the set of fingers coupled to the stage. The stage and hence the assembled sets of fingers are then locked into the post-release position.

  • Patent number: 7280332
Abstract: A low loading capacitance on-chip electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection circuit for compound semiconductor power amplifiers is disclosed, which does not degrade the circuit RF performance. Its principle of operation and simulation results regarding capacitance loading, leakage current, degradation to RF performance are disclosed. The design, loading effect over frequency, robustness over process and temperature variation and application to an RF Power amplifier is presented in detail. The ESD circuit couples an input to ground during ESD surges through a diode string coupled to the input, and a transistor switch or Darlington pair having its gate coupled to and triggered by the diode string. The Darlington pair couples the input to ground when triggered through a low impedance path in parallel to the diode string. A reverse diode also couples ground to the input on reverse surges.

  • Patent number: 7274828
Abstract: A method and system that detect image pixels of noisy and sharp image edges, and enhance such pixels differently than other pixels, so that noise around the detected pixels is essentially not boosted. A detection process is conducted on a pixel basis, wherein each pixel is checked together with its neighboring pixels inside a rectangular window centered around a selected/current pixel to determine whether the current pixel belongs to a noisy and sharp vertical image edge or a noisy and sharp horizontal image edge. If the current pixel is classified as a regular pixel, image detail enhancement is performed normally at the current pixel location. Otherwise, mean values of pixels in a rectangular window centered with the current pixel are used to calculate the unsharp signal. The unsharp signal is then processed as in the case of the regular pixels to obtain a detail enhanced image.

  • Patent number: 7269296
Abstract: A general shoot suppression method and system for image detail enhancement that provides good suppression in shoot areas while preserving the enhancement (with less or no suppression) in non-shoot areas. Asymmetry checker checks the luminance variation of pixels around the current pixel within a filtering range. Based on the checking result, different patterns of luminance variation in the neighborhood of the current pixel are categorized. Higher suppression is applied to those patterns that are more likely to cause overshoot/undershoot. Optionally, suppression is further associated with the intensity of detail signal at each pixel position. An intensity checker checks the magnitude of the detail signal. If the detail signal is weak at a current pixel position, it is unlikely that obvious shoot artifacts appear at that position, and little or no suppression is applied. Such a method and system provide shoot suppression only in shoot areas while maintaining good enhancement in non-shoot areas.
