  • Patent number: 5121602
Abstract: A pollution control apparatus is shown for use on automobiles and trucks. This pollution control apparatus fits on the automotive exhaust pipe. A collector unit is secured between the exhaust pipe and tail pipe. The collector unit has a pair of blowers or bladed rotors which are impinged by a mixture of exhaust gases and water which causes the water droplets and dissolved and entrained materials to separate and drain through outlet drains. Water is injected into a U-shaped trap between exhaust pipe and the collector unit. Water from the bottom of the collector unit is pumped by a pump to a reservoir and entrained material is separated by a filter. Water from the filter drains by gravity through a radiator coil and thence to the reservoir from which it flows through vacuum valve to a U-shaped fitting. The water is injected into the exhaust gas stream to wash out entrained and soluble material. The mixture flows through blowers which cause the entrained and water-dissolved material to separate as described.

  • Patent number: 5118397
Abstract: A method for conversion of comminuted cellulosic agricultural wastes into a form edible by ruminant animals comprises treating such wastes, e.g., straw, corn stalks and husks, cotton wastes, peanut shells, saw dust, etc. by spraying with an aqueous solution of a mixed oxidant gas, at a pH of about 11-12, to produce a total water content of less than 20%, a pH of about 11.4-11.7, and NaOH content of less than 5.0% in the waste. The mixed-oxidant gas is preferably produced by a gas generator comprising an electrolytic cell having an anode compartment, a bipolar electrode in the anode compartment, a cathode compartment and a membrane separating the compartments to permit only a limited flow of electrolyte therebetween. When a low salt concentration solution is electrolyzed in this cell, the output is a mixed oxidant gas containing chlorine and various oxygen-containing species. The gas generator which is preferred is that shown in U.S. Pat. No. 4,248,681.

  • Patent number: 5111950
Abstract: A shipping container has a pallet with a metal base formed of channel and a floor panel secured to the base. Corner posts of square metal tubing extend vertically from the corners of the pallet base and have cover holding members at their upper ends. An inverted box-shaped cover having vertical recesses in each corner in slidably received on the pallet corner posts. Tie-down brackets slidably mounted in the floor panel receive straps to secure items stacked on the pallet floor panel. Slots in the pallet base and in the cover facilitate lifting the pallet and/or the cover by forklift or other lifting devices. The cover is raised to a position above the floor panel of the pallet and the cover holding members are pivoted to engage the cover such that the cover is supported on the posts above the floor panel. The cover could also be completely removed from the pallet. With the cover raised or removed, items can be stacked on the pallet and tied down by straps passed over the top of the stacked items.

  • Patent number: 5107620
Abstract: An electrified table cloth for preventing crawling insects from gaining access to the consumer's food or drink comprises a cloth formed of electrically insulated material which has at least one pair of parallel electrically conductive strips secured to the edge or border of the cloth to completely encircle the cloth and which are connected to a low voltage DC battery also secured to the cloth. The strips of electrical conductive material are spaced apart sufficiently to normally prevent completion of a circuit across the strips and for completion of a circuit across said strips through an insert's body as the insect attempts to traverse the strips when crawling acorss the edge of the cloth. The current passing through the insect's body is sufficient to produce a sensation which will discourage further travel across the edge of the cloth.

  • Patent number: 5103571
Abstract: A gage apparatus for determining uniformity in the inside or outside diameter of flexible rings and generally round objects based on the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter. A spring biased lever pivotally mounted on a support plate has a releasable clamp at one end. An indicator is engaged with the lever to indicate the amount of pivotal movement thereof. A thin flexible band of stiff material has one end secured to a spool on the support plate and a portion of its length passes slidably through the clamp and forms a circular loop and its terminal end is fixed to the clamp. The ratio of the distance from the pivot point of the lever to the connection with the band is pi (3.1416) times the distance from the pivot point to the connection with the indicator whereby circumferential measurements are converted and indicated as diametric measurements. As the lever pivots, the diameter of the circular looped portion of the band will increase or decrease.

  • Patent number: 5098019
Abstract: A tank is disclosed for installation on dump trucks. The tank is supported on two pairs of legs which are hinged to the bottom of the tank and pivotally movable between a lowered and locked position for supporting the tank on the ground and a raised position when the tank is installed on a dump truck. The tank has rollers on the bottom and sides to guide the movement of the tank into the truck bed during installation. A distribution manifold for liquid in the tank is secured on the back end of the tank at a level for draining and sprinkling the contents of the tank along with an optional pumping device liquid while standing on the ground on the supporting legs or while on the truck. It is loaded on the truck by tilting the truck bed to the rear and backing the truck to engage the rollers mounted on the front end of the tank. On engagement with the truck bed, the rollers guide the movement of the tank into the bed and the front pair of legs are collapsed and folded under the tank while backing the truck up.

  • Patent number: 5090501
Abstract: A rotary apparatus for use as a pump, motor, meter, or fluid brake is disclosed. A stationary base member has a circular fluid channel with a pair of spaced fluid inlet and outlet ports within the channel. A rotor having a hollow cylindrical body portion substantially surrounds the base member and encloses the channel and has one or more peg-like piston members extending inward from the inner periphery of the rotor. The pistons are received in the channel and separate the channel into one or more enclosed fluid chambers and sequentially pass over the inlet and outlet ports. A ring gear on the inner periphery of the rotor engages a smaller gear rotatably mounted on the base member which is connected to a disc-shaped divider for rotating the divider in timed relation with the rotor upon relative rotation. The divider rotates partially in the channel and is recessed on its side wall to receive and travel in coordinated movement with the pistons during travel in the channel.

  • Patent number: 5083570
Abstract: A surgical device for volumetric localization, biopsy and surgical procedures consists of a tubular shaft containing an array of filaments which are preformed and preloaded as springs. The filaments when deployed by extension from the tubular shaft, after insertion through or adjacent to a tumor or other tissue mass, form a predetermined, i.e., substantially closed loop, configuration outlining, encasing and excluding a known volume of tissue, i.e., tumor or other tissue mass, from the human body for the purpose of localization, biopsy or surgical removal. The filament array configuration, when outlining, enclosing and excluding the tumor or other tissue mass, limits tissue exposure to conventional and nonconventional forms of surgery to that within the encircling filaments.

  • Patent number: 5080282
Abstract: An air conditioning apparatus comprises an automatically controlled mixing box for an air conditioning system wherein a triple inlet mixing box has a cold air inlet, a hot air inlet, a return air inlet, and a fan for inducting and disbursing the air mixed therein. Thermostatic motors regulate the first and second dampers having a configuration which controls opening or closing of the hot air inlet, the return air inlet, and the cold air inlet in such a manner that the air mixture may be regulated from cold to neutral to hot without any direct mixture of the cold air and the hot air at any time. The fan draws in the air from the open or partially open inlet openings to mix the same and discharge the mixture to the room. Several fan-powered mixing boxes may be incorporated to create a multizone system with each zone regulated by a thermostat to mix the return air with hot or cold air to supply the desired zone temperature.
