  • Patent number: 4938390
Abstract: The combination comprises a flexible container including a body portion and a neck portion. The body portion is sufficiently flexible to allow manual squeezing inwardly thereof. An amount of the liquid material is disposed within the container for storage thereof. The neck portion extends from the body portion at one end thereof to a discharge opening defined by a peripheral wall edge at the other end thereof. The sealing closure includes frangible membrane mechanism and a securing mechanism for attaching the membrane mechanism to the wall edge of the discharge opening. The sealing closure being effective to hold the liquid within the container when the container is inverted to otherwise cause the liquid therein to pour out of the discharge opening. The sealing closure has a structural configuration effective to break open causing gravitational liquid flow out of the discharge opening when the inverted container is manually squeezed inwardly.

  • Patent number: 4936713
Abstract: A gravity retaining system for a stabilized steep slope comprises a plurality of free standing facing elements disposed end-to-end with respect to each other to form a continuous line of facing elements. Each facing element includes a weight bearing base surface, a front facing surface, a rear soil contacting surface, a top surface and two outwardly directed end surfaces. The weight-bearing base surface includes a stable erection platform sufficient to provide upright free standing stability of each element when backfilling soil against an inwardly tapered portion of the rear surface. An overturning moment about the lower front outer edge of the front facing surface exists when the element is in a free standing upright position and is backfilled from the lower rear outer edge to a preselected height on the rear surface. The weight of each facing element is sufficient to produce a resistance to overturn the facing element about the lower front outer edge that is greater than the overturning moment.

  • Patent number: 4921295
Abstract: The entry rolls of a carriage for an ambulance stretcher are arranged at the carriage frame in such a manner that they are displaceable in lengthwise direction to the frame. At the front end of the carriage frame, the entry rolls can be locked by an arresting mechanism in a predetermined position relative to the frame. By releasing the arresting mechanism when the carriage is thrust into the transport vehicle, the entry rolls are shifted backwardly with respect to the frame toward the front legs until they are finally arranged directly under the front rollers of the ambulance stretcher disposed on the carriage.

  • Patent number: 4915802
Abstract: Lead with a low alpha particle emission is produced by selecting an orebody wherein lead mineral is present in a coarsely disseminated form and substantially free of impurities. The ore is selected from a host rock that is relatively low in alpha emitters, such as a carbonate rock. The ore is mined and is milled such that the lead mineral can be separated from the host rock and any other minerals. The ground ore may be screened into one or more fractions having a narrow range of particle sizes. Each fraction is formed into a fluid suspension, and each suspension is subjected to gravity separation to remove the host rock and any other minerals which substantially contain the alpha particle-emitting substances, and to recover the lead mineral as a concentrate with a low alpha count. The lead concentrate is subjected to a suitable reduction operation that may include a conversion of the concentrate into a reducible form, without the introduction of alpha emitters, for the recovery of a low alpha lead.

  • Patent number: 4911198
Abstract: The securing system includes a device and a method for securing a valve assembly in either an open or closed operational position. The automatically operated valve assembly opens and closes a transmission line to flow upon rotation of a rotatable shaft member. The valve assembly is connected to receive remotely transmitted control signals for operating the rotatable shaft member. A flattened circumferential section is located on the rotatable shaft and a locking clip member includes a flattened surface section. The shaft member is externally accessible by the manually operated locking clip which fits around the rotatable shaft in a stationary locking position where the flattened circumferential section is contiguously disposed against the flattened surface section of the locking clip element. An anchoring mechanism secures the locking clip element in the stationary locking position so that the rotation of the shaft member is prevented.

  • Patent number: 4899430
Abstract: The method for removing a head portion with a shank section from a shaft of a golf club is effected by an assembly comprising securing means for fixing the position of a shaft of the golf club along the longitudinal axis of the shaft. Head grasping mechanism is mounted to rotate with respect to the securing mechanism and the longitudinal axis of the shaft secured in a fixed position. The head grasping mechanism is effective to hold the head during rotation thereof, thereby turning the head about an axis of rotation. Drive mechanism rotates the head grasping mechanism about the axis of rotation while applying pressure to the head in a direction parallel to the longitudinal axis and away from the fixed shaft. The method includes the step of heating the outer surface of the hosel section of the head portion for expanding the material therein with respect to the shaft. After the heating step, the pressure is applied to the head while the head portion is still heated.

  • Patent number: 4889748
Abstract: The combination comprises rigid planar thin sheet substrate means. An envelope defined by sheets composed of transparent material and having an outer edge is secured on the rigid planar thin sheet substrate means. A postage stamp is disposed between the sheets within the envelope. The envelope is sealed along its outer edge to confine the postage stamp while allowing a visual examination of the postage stamp through the envelope. A clear material is disposed over the envelope to form a transparent dome-like structure through which the postage stamp may be viewed. A particular feature of the invention is a method for forming rigid first and second planar thin sheet substrate members. The first member is registered with and disposed within a recessed area on one displaying face of the second thin sheet substrate member.

  • Patent number: 4873860
Abstract: The lifting beam assembly for transporting workpieces from work station to work station in a forming press includes a pair of transport beam members for grasping workpieces to be transported within the forming press. A first drive mechanism executes vertical movement to raise and lower the transport beam members. A second drive mechanism executes longitudinal movement of the transport beam members in a direction parallel to the direction traveled from work station to work station. A third drive mechanism executes transverse movement of the transport beam members. Each of the three drive mechanisms include movement actuating devices for effecting the respective vertical, longitudinal and transverse movements. An actuating shaft is secured at one end thereof for hydraulic actuation by an electro-hydraulic booster. It is coupled at the other end thereof to the movement actuating device for effecting the particular respective movement of the transport beam members.

  • Patent number: 4858398
Abstract: A prefabricated, modular building construction system uses three basic, proportioned panels, comprising rectangular wall and roof panels and triangular gable panels. The panels are secured together with simple fasteners inserted through aligned openings in adjacent edges of the panels and turned to lock them in place. The gable panels are shaped as right triangles, with the angular disposition of the hypotenuse determining the pitch of the roof and the length thereof having a specific relationship with respect to the length of the roof panels. The lengths of the other two sides also have a particular relationship to the length and width of the wall panels. Thus, the panels may be arranged in any predetermined number and size to define buildings of various sizes and shapes. Each of the panels comprises channel shaped frame members surrounding a rigid insulating core with protective and/or decorative surface layers or sheets laminated on both sides.
