  • Patent number: 4451596
Abstract: This invention is directed to water-dilutable alkyd and acrylate resins. More particularly, this invention is directed to a method for the preparation of water-dilutable resin preparations based upon alkyd and acrylate resins which comprises the steps of:(a) preparing an aqueous alkyd resin dispersion, wherein the alkyd resin has an acid number of from about 5 to 40 and a hydroxyl number of from about 150 to 300 and the dispersion has a solids content of from about 30 to 90 percent by weight; and(b) polymerizing monomers of acrylic acid derivatives or methacrylic acid derivatives in the dispersion from step (a), optionally in the presence of additional water, to obtain a total solids content of from about 30 to 80 percent by weight, the weight ratio of alkyd resin to acrylate resin being from about 1:4 to 9:1.This invention is also directed to the use of these binders in water-dilutable lacquer systems.

  • Patent number: 4451564
Abstract: This invention relates to a process for the preparation of a concentrate containing sterol compounds of natural origin, which concentrate is suitable as a starting material for the transformation of sterol compounds by fermentation, which comprises the steps of:(a) transesterifying distillation residues from the processing of natural fats and/or oils with a lower alcohol; and(b) subjecting the product of step (a) to molecular distillation to produce a main fraction having a content of up to about 50 percent by weight of sterol compounds. The invention also relates to sterol concentrates produced thereby and their transformation to valuable secondary products.

  • Patent number: 4451261
Abstract: This invention relates to a process for preparing sulfonated lubricating agents for leather and tanned furs consisting of the steps of:(a) chlorinating natural or synthetic higher fatty acids or esters of higher fatty acids having chain lengths of from 8 to 24 carbon atoms containing olefinically unsaturated fractions, up to saturation of the double bonds;(b) sulfochlorinating the chlorinated product from step (a) with chlorine and SO.sub.2 at a temperature of from about 20.degree. to 90.degree. C., optionally under UV-radiation, for a time sufficient to obtain a compound having a chlorine content of from about 5 to 30 percent by weight and a content of SO.sub.2 Cl groups of from about 1 to 20 percent by weight, the ratio of chlorine atoms to SO.sub.2 Cl groups being from about 0.7:1 to 70:1; and(c) saponifying the product from step (b) to form a water-emulsifiable alkali metal, ammonium, or lower alkyl-ammonium salt of the product of step (b).

  • Patent number: 4448725
Abstract: New .DELTA.4-steroid compounds optionally containing a further double bond in the 1-position and an 11-oxygen function and corresponding to general formula I below: ##STR1## in which X represents halogen, particularly chlorine or bromine, or NH.sub.2 and Y is a hydroxyl group, or together with the C-atom substituted by Y, represents a carbonyl group, are obtained from the associated steroid-20-carboxylic acids by reaction with a halogenating agent in substantially stoichiometric quantities at temperatures not exceeding 15.degree. C., after which the steroid-20-carboxylic acid halide formed is, if desired, reacted with ammonia or with a compound which yields ammonia.

  • Patent number: 4446072
Abstract: .DELTA.4-Steroid-20-carboxylic acids (BNC compounds) which may optionally contain at least one other double bond in the 1(2)- and/or 9(11)-position and which may also contain an oxygen function, particularly a hydroxyl group or a keto group, in the 11-position, are degraded in the 20-carboxyl group by carboxy inversion degradation. To achieve this, the BNC-carboxylic acids are first transformed into their acid halides which are reacted with peracids to form mixed acid anhydrides, followed by hydrolysis. The reaction product obtained is a mixture of 20-hydroxy- and 20(21)-ene-steroid compounds which contain one carbon atom less than the starting material used. New and known C21-steroid compounds can be produced by the process. The C21-steroid compounds having an oxygenated function in the 11-position may be processed to prednisolone and prednisone by known procedures.
