  • Patent number: 6530585
Abstract: A steering stabilizer apparatus for the steering system of a vehicle having a steerable member movable away from a selected center position in response to a steering movement. The apparatus includes a rotary member having a corresponding face with centering detents, a piston member having a corresponding face arranged opposite to the rotary member face with a centering detent aligned with each rotary member detent when the rotary member is in a centered position corresponding to the selected position of the steerable member. Bearing members are arranged to be pressed between the rotary and piston members and to be in contact with a seat of each of a pair of aligned detents when the steerable member is in the preselected position. • Patent number: 6522972
Abstract: A method for producing a more accurate instantaneous unit hydrograph particularly for urban areas and for use in specifying the capacities of structures engineered to manage surface water runoff at the watershed catchment. The method uses map data verified by on-site inspections to obtain the input for the computer-performed calculation of initial probabilities, transition probabilities and mean waiting times, and subsequently the instantaneous unit hydrograph. This data includes the areas, links between streams, and slopes of various parts of the watershed.

  • Patent number: 6520520
Abstract: A linkage assembly (10) of remotely adjustable length extends between a steerable member (17) and a frame member (12) to define the center position of the steerable member (17). The linkage assembly includes a resistance assembly (30) for providing a resistance force resisting forces tending to move the steerable member (17) to either side of the center position, and a trim assembly (28) having a piston (36) that may be locked in position (C1) in a trim cylinder (33) for transmitting steering forces to the resistance assembly (30). A trim valve (52, 52′, 52,″ 301) is operable between a closed position for preventing trim fluid flow so that the piston (36) is held in its locked position (C1), and an open position for allowing the trim piston (36) to move away from its prior locked position (C1) to a new locked position (C2) to permit the length of the linkage (10) to be changed in response to a steering force applied to the steering wheel.

  • Patent number: 6520519
Abstract: A steering linkage assembly (10) having a resistance assembly (30) for resisting turning movements of a steerable member (17), and a trim assembly (28) for remotely adjusting the length of a linkage (10) between the steerable member (17) and a frame member (12). A trim valve (52, 52′, 52,″ 301) is operable between closed and open positions for allowing a trim piston (36) to move from one locked position (C1) to another locked position (C2) to change the length of the linkage (10). A liquid pressurized by a gas pressure source (88) is provided to the resistance assembly (30) and to the trim assembly (28) by a single pressure accumulator assembly (275), or by a dual accumulator assembly (75, 175) providing liquid at a trim pressure and a resistance pressure. The stroke of the trim piston (36) is sufficient for the fluid systems (28, 30, 75, 175, 275) to remain pressurized at all times.

  • Patent number: 6518034
Abstract: A test strip for determining blood glucose concentration includes a test strip and a photometer. The test strip comprises a substrate formed with an aperture, a polymeric membrane adhered to the aperture and in registration with the aperture, having a quantity of reagent on its bottom surface of the membrane. The polymeric membrane is adhered to the bottom of the substrate by double sided tape. The placement of the reagent on the bottom surface of the membrane allows filtration of the red blood cells from plasma before the glucose in the blood reaches the reagent and carries with it oxygen to drive the glucose-reagent reaction to completion. The photometer includes an infrared LED for detecting glucose components in the reacted test strip and simple, one-button operation.

  • Patent number: 6516836
Abstract: Draining of the waste tank of a recreational vehicle is improved by using a motor to operate the waste hose. The motor causes the proximal end of the hose to be extended from its housing in the RV while the distal end remains attached to the waste tan. The extended proximal end can then be inserted into the access pipe of a sewer system for draining the waste tank. The motor will retract the hose when the waste tank has been emptied. The motor is operable either by throwing a switch on the motor or pressing a button on a remote control unit.

  • Patent number: 6505633
Abstract: A system of components that cooperate to shield the exposed skin of the ears, forehead and neck against contact by a hot curling iron includes a head band, an ear piece, and neck shield. The ear pieces fit over the ears, cupping the tops and backs of the ears to both protect them and derive support for the system from them. The head band and neck shield attach to ear pieces and are made of a heat resistant fabric. The three components will not prevent burns in every case but can prevent or limit injury from the proximity of the hot curling iron and harm from the occasional, inadvertent touching of the iron.
