  • Patent number: 4604630
Abstract: A method for applying an electric charge in ink jet printers of the so-called continuous kind, in which electrically conductive ink or like medium is forced in the form of a jet (3) from a container through a nozzle (1) or the like and is caused to form droplets (4), which are electrically charged and which are caused to pass deflecting electrodes (6) to which a voltage is applied and are caused to travel along a movement path dependent, inter alia, upon the electric charge, thereby to provide a pre-determined transcript or the like on a printing sheet (5) or corresponding material.

  • Patent number: 4601224
Abstract: A hot wire cutting system for cutting a pattern shape in a block of polyfoam for use as a casting mold for a metal shielding block to be used in radiotherapy treatments is described. The system provides proportioned current responsive to deflection of the hot cutter wire in order to cancel the deflection and maintain the wire in its optimal central cutting position. The hot cutter-wire preferably passes through a field which provides fine vibratory motion of the cutting wire allowing use of lower wire temperatures to effect the cutting. The system may include optical means for determining the accuracy of the profile cut in the polyfoam block.

  • Patent number: 4599929
Abstract: A method and a device for carrying out the method of guiding the blades (4) of a circular saw in operation, such as at the sawing of, for example, saw timber, timber blocks, battens or other workpieces on wood basis, where one or several blades (4) are located at an axle (6) and each blade is guided by at least one guide (9,11) acting on the blade. At least one of the guides (9,11) of each blade (4), and in such a case guides corresponding to each other for all blades (4), separate or together with said corresponding guide of remaining blades in the form of a guide package (9',11') during the sawing are floating substantially in the axial direction of the blades (4) and hereby continuously positioned laterally in response to movements and position of the workpiece (1) being sawn, substantially in the axial direction of the blades in connection to the guide or guide package and/or the lateral movements and lateral position of the blade(s) in connection to the guide (9,11) or guide package (9',11').

  • Patent number: 4599059
Abstract: A rotary compressor comprising a cylindrical stator, a rotor rotatably mounted within the stator defining a number of stator chambers, a plurality of gas-blocking vanes equiangularly disposed between the inner peripheral surface of the stator and the outer surface of the rotor, wherein the outer peripheral surface of the rotor is formed with a plurality of wavy compressive surfaces and the center line of said vanes are not aligned with the center of the rotor so as to make the pressure angle between the vanes and the rotor approach 0.degree. during the performance of the compression work, so that the frictional resistance formed between the rotor and the vanes will be reduced to the minimum.

  • Patent number: 4598487
Abstract: An athletic shoe wherein outward expansion of one or more portions of the shoe's foamed, closed cell polymeric midsole is constrained to increase the amount of energy absorbed by the midsole under a wearer-applied load. Various embodiments of this invention provide for the precompression of the constrained midsole portion to further enhance the midsole's energy-absorbing capability.

  • Patent number: 4597537
Abstract: A vertical mill for material such as cement raw materials, clinker, coal, or the like comprises a grinder portion which has rollers arranged to grind the material by their rolling on a rotary table, a separator means which is positioned above the grinder portion and which classifies the ground material conveyed pneumatically from the grinder portion to the separator means by the two opposite forces of centrifugal force of a rotary disk and of fluid resistance of a vortex flow, a plurality of straightening vanes which are mounted between the casing and the inner cone and which adequately regulate the direction of the fluid in the lower portion and in the upper portion in passage between the grinding portion and the separator means, and a casing outside the separator means having the appropriate shape for forming a horizontal vortex flow in the separator means. The aforesaid vertical mill structure improves the classifying efficiency of the separator means.

  • Patent number: 4595240
Abstract: A device at a combined bucket and frozen soil scarifier (/cable plough), where the bucket (13) and scarifier (10) are intended to be attached to a digger arm of an excavator or corresponding machine, and the width of the scarifier (10) is substantially smaller than the width of the bucket (10), and the bucket in digging position is intended to rest at its rear edge (14) against the scarifier (10), and the bucket at its upper portion is hingedly suspended by means of an axle (19) or corresponding member, and preferably by hydraulic means, for example at least one hydraulic cylinder (21), can be folded in the direction from the scarifier, whereby the scarifier can be utilized without the bucket being engaged.

  • Patent number: 4584769
Abstract: An extractor for an increment borer (1), which increment borer (1) consists of a tubular body having internally a cylindric portion, which transforms to a conic portion (6), and which on the outside is provided with bore threads (4). According to the invention, an end piece (10) is provided for being attached to and detached from the rearward end of the blade (9). The end piece comprises a sleeve (12) and a domed nut (14), each of which are provided with threads (13,15) arranged so, that the sleeve (12) and domed nut (14) are axially movable relative to another. The end piece (10) further comprises an oblong conic locking pin (16) intended to be inserted together with the rearward end of the blade (9) into an axial through hole in the sleeve (12). The domed nut (14) is intended at its threading on the sleeve (12) to axially move the locking pin (16), which thereby is pressed against the blade (9) located between the locking pin (16) and the wall of said hole of the sleeve (12).

  • Patent number: 4582600
Abstract: This invention provides apparatus for the growth of biomass from a supply of suitable nutrient wherein the volume of biomass and the size and shape of the units in which it is present within a vessel (10) in which the reaction takes place can be accurately controlled. Control is achieved by providing a support structure (14) for the biomass comprising one or more movable bodies each of which has an internal reticular structure defining a substantial voidage therein and which essentially fills with the biomass but which does not overfill since excess growth is restricted. Restriction can be achieved by removal of excess biomass or by removal of the bodies at the time that they become filled. The techniques are capable of numerous industrial applications including various biological fermentation processes as well as the purification of sewage and industrial effluents, for example.
