  • Patent number: 4647246
Abstract: A pit disposed between an unsecured area and a secured area is normally bridged by a generally flat platform which normally forms a continuation of a roadway. The plate is pivoted at the unsecured side of the pit and is normally supported at the protected side by a weight-responsive removable or frangible support so that an unapproved vehicle will cause the support to give 'way and let the platform swing down and thereby entrap the vehicle in the pit. A plate at the protected side of the pit normally lies in the plane of the platform and functions as an extension thereof. When the weight-responsive support gives 'way and the platform swings down, the plate swings up and forms a blast shield across the path of the force of an explosion of a bomb in the entrapped vehicle. When an approved vehicle is to cross into the secured area a normally inoperative support is engaged with the platform so as to bypass the weight-responsive support.

  • Patent number: 4646631
Abstract: A process and system for preparing vegetable oilseed meal for subsequent solvent extraction of the contained vegetable oil, comprising a screwpress section and extruding/expanding section, a common worm shaft (10, 11) rotating within a perforated barrel wall section (14) and a non-perforate barrel wall section (18) connected by an annular member (16) with water injection nozzles (17) therein. Meal enters at inlet (13); oil is extracted through wall (14); the meal enters section (18) at increased temperature and moisture content; its temperature is then increased further to a level at which the increased moisture content will flash off as the meal leaves the restricted orifice (19) thus increasing the porosity and extractability of the meal.

  • Patent number: 4642938
Abstract: A plant protection system which utilizes a housing and a heat source is disclosed. In one embodiment, the invention includes a truncated cone shaped housing which is positioned on the ground so as to surround the tree or other plant. The heat source may, for example, include a water pipe and spray emitter located within the housing to provide water in spray form near ground level adjacent the tree. A deep well may be used as the water source, thus providing water at a temperature higher than the ambient temperature. As the warm water spray rises within the housing, heat is transferred to the interior of the housing. An extension having side walls in the form of an inverted cone may be secured to the upper end of the housing to provide a further heating effect. Any of various designs and constructions for the housing and the extension may be employed. The heating means may also be provided from any of various sources and materials.

  • Patent number: 4634336
Abstract: A bale loader comprises a pair of arms pivoted to a wheeled frame and movable vertically. The arms carry, at their outer ends, a platform which is pivoted to the arms and movable between an upright position to a position parallel with the arms. The platform carries a pair of pivoted tynes which, when the platform is moved to the upright position, extend along the ground to engage beneath a bale. Hydraulic cylinders acting between the platform and the frame causes pivotal movement of the platform to lift the bale and a further cylinder lifts the platform and arms about the pivotal attachment to the frame whereby the bale is discharged to a feeder or the like. A movable carriage on the arms assists in discharge of the bale from the platform.

  • Patent number: 4633258
Abstract: A microwave antenna feed network dispenses with the conventional phase shifters. Instead, the required phase relationships between the different individual antenna components is achieved by means of a new device, known as a phase slope equalizer, placed in each feed line. This device is formed of a section of waveguide containing one or more resonant circuit elements. Each element comprises, for example, a pair of spaced inductive posts and capacitive tuning screw, or an inductive iris and a capacitive tuning screw, or a resonant slot. The phase slope equalizer exhibits a substantially constant slope phase shift/frequency response curve extending from a positive phase shift through zero phase shift at midband to a negative phase shift. The device is simpler and smaller than the conventional phase shifter and fewer are required thereby reducing costs.
