  • Patent number: 5919157
Abstract: A shaped flexible infusion sleeve provides for delivery of an infusion fluid to the tip of a vibrating needle used in a phacoemulsification procedure for removing cataracts. The shaped flexible infusion sleeve has a non-circular cross-sectional shape which allows deformation yet prevents collapse of the sleeve onto the vibrating needle so as to avoid undesired heating during surgery. The shaped flexible infusion sleeve has at least two constriction points which add sufficient structural sniffiness to prevent full collapse of the sleeve once inserted into an incision in the eye, while at the same time providing sufficient flexibility to enhance sealing of the incision.

  • Patent number: 5918555
Abstract: An apparatus and method for reducing NO.sub.x pollution in flue gas produced by a power plant uses heat exchanger elements having extended surfaces which contain a SCR catalyst, with the heat exchanger elements located in the flue gas stream. Coolant is passed through the heat exchanger elements to cool the catalyst, with a temperature control system used to maintain the catalyst at its optimum temperature such that the maximum conversion of NO.sub.x is achieved. Utilizing the present invention, temperature cycling of the catalyst is avoided, prolonging the life of the catalyst, while at the same time optimizing the efficiency of conversion regardless of variations in the flue gas flow or temperature.

  • Patent number: 5918539
Abstract: A device for making patterns or images having predetermined shape uses powder substances introduced into a container disposed inside a cylindrical body. The container has an open bottom and features at top a recess with a related hole. A bottom mask, with a perforated pattern or image, closes the bottom of the container and is kept by retention means engaging with the cylindrical body. A driving device, set into the recess, has a shaft passing through the hole and fastened to a scraper member disposed inside the container for facilitating passage of the powder substance through holes of the perforated pattern or image of the bottom mask.

  • Patent number: 5908137
Abstract: The dispenser supplies pieces of paper, pulled out from a reel of paper (2) contained therein, without any contact between a user and not pulled out paper. If the paper reel has transversal pre-cut lines, the length of each piece is equal to one or more distances between the two following pre-cut lines. If the paper reel has not transversal pre-cut lines, the length of each piece is determined by the user.

  • Patent number: 5899563
Abstract: A corrugating adhesive is produced on an as needed continuous basis using a mixing chamber containing an agitator and a testing chamber including a viscosity sensor. Each adhesive ingredient is proportionally added to the mixing chamber in a total volumetric rate corresponding substantially to the rate of use in a corrugating machine. A portion of a raw starch slurry is adjustably diverted to mix with a basic agent to control adhesive viscosity, with the amount not admixed added to the mixing chamber. Thus, the amount of adhesive made is in balance with the amount used, allowing fresh adhesive to be provided throughout a corrugating run, without a large hold up of adhesive, thus reducing capital costs and adhesive waste.

  • Patent number: 5883530
Abstract: The present invention relates to methods and devices for generating cycled waveforms of nonsingle period, and more particularly to an improvement from the one-way counter used by conventional cycled waveform generator of nonsingle period into an up-down counter or a programmable up-down counter, along with an adder/subtracter. Thus, only the varied values in waveform relative to a DC level have to be filled into a table, and then the varied values in waveform (i.e. the digital waveform sampling values) are input into said adder/subtracter to obtain a periodic digital values by adding/subtracting with a predetermined DC level. Finally, cycled waveforms of nonsingle period are obtained by digital-to-analog converting of said digital values. With the methods and devices of the present invention, not only the fillings in said table can be decreased to reduce the cost, but also the DC output level can be fixed or adjusted arbitrarily for convenient signal processing.

  • Patent number: 5852368
Abstract: A sensor for the measurement of moisture in a flow of material, especially loose material such as meal material, grains, granulates and similar materials which are to be pressed to form feed pills in presses. The sensor comprises a tube piece of an electrically conductive material with circular cross-section, and an elongated pole which is of circular cross-section and is disposed with its longitudinal axis concentrically and electrically insulated in the tube piece, and which consists of an electrically conductive material. When the moist material flows between the inside surface of the tube piece and the outer side of the pole, the sensor works with the moist material's conductivity as a condenser for the capacitive detection of the moistness, which can be determined on the basis of the detection.

  • Patent number: 5824249
Abstract: A method for fabricating molded parts utilizing a plurality of mold details having respective molding surfaces defining respective contours. The method selecting a first group of the mold details and disposing the selected mold details adjacent to one another in a first predetermined spatial relationship so that the molding surfaces of the selected mold details are contiguous, to define a first molding cavity for producing a first desired molded part. A hardenable polymeric material is injected into the molding cavity and hardened to form the desired molded part. Various combinations of mold details can be assembled to produce multiple parts in a common mold frame.

  • Patent number: 5817265
Abstract: An apparatus and method provide for the assembly of a multiply shaped fiber preform, the apparatus using a shaping tool having the shape of the desired part, and one or more secondary location tools, can be positioned on the shaping tool, so as to simulate a flat shape. The location tools include a number of upwardly extending location pins, such that a number of plies can be assembled in a vertical stack using the pins to assure ply to ply accuracy and orientation. After assembly, the plies are engaged in a localized portion of the assembly so as to hold the plies in register, with the secondary tools then removed and the plies then formed to shape over the tool surfaces. Utilizing the apparatus and method of the invention maintains multiple plies in register during the assembly and forming process to assure part reproducibility, in an automated process.

  • Patent number: 5620359
Abstract: A knife sharpener (1) having a flexible grinding system includes a grinding wheel (2) and means for rotating the wheel, and has a fixed guide surface (14) for roughly positioning a knife for sharpening. A movable member (21) is disposed adjacent to the grinding member (17) of the grinding wheel, with the movable biased by a spring (26) in a direction towards the wheel. In operation, when a knife is moved into contact with the grinding wheel, the movable member is displaced inwardly to reduce the contact pressure such that only the knife edge contacts the wheel. Thus, rather than recontouring the knife edge, the knife edge is most closely returned to its original contour. Using such a flexible grinding system substantially maintains the original edge contour of the blade.
