  • Patent number: 8277316
Abstract: A computer graphics display system such as a video game system provides virtual camera 3-D viewpoint panning control based on a pointer. When the pointer is displayed within a virtual camera panning control region, the system automatically pans the virtual camera toward the pointer. When the pointer is displayed within a different region, panning is deactivated and the user can freely move the cursor (e.g., to control the direction a weapon is pointed) without panning the virtual camera viewpoint. Flexible viewpoint control and other animated features are provided based on a pointing device such as a handheld video game optical pointing control. Useful applications include but are not limited to first person shooter type video games.

  • Patent number: 8281167
Abstract: In an electronic control apparatus for vehicles, there is provided a main microcomputer activated when a given activation condition is met and a sub-microcomputer to which a power control signal controlling power supply to the sub-microcomputer is supplied. A first power supply unit supplies, via a first supply line, power supply voltage to the main microcomputer for activation, and a second power supply unit supplies, via a second supply line different from the first supply line, power supply voltage to the sub-microcomputer for activation when the sub-microcomputer receives the power control signal. The main microcomputer determines whether or not the sub-microcomputer should be made to operate and performs a switchover between output and non-output of the power control signal to the second power supply unit based on the determined results, whereby the power supply to the sub-microcomputer is controlled.

  • Patent number: 8276251
Abstract: A hand tool comprises: a body; a handle extending from the body; a hand-operable lever pivotally connected to the body and pivotable from a resting position towards the handle to a working position; a shaft extending through the body along a longitundal axis, and movable between forward and reverse directions along the axis relative to the body; a shaft drive mechanism mounted to the body and operatively connected to the shaft and lever such that pivoting of the lever to the working position causes the shaft drive mechanism to incrementally advance the shaft only in the forward direction; and a shaft release mechanism mounted to the body and comprising a shaft locking member operatively connected to the shaft and lever, wherein the shaft locking member is movable by the lever between a locking position and an unlocking position, and wherein movement of the lever from the resting position away from the working position moves the shaft locking member to the unlocking position and enables the shaft to be moved i

  • Patent number: 8280614
Abstract: A control device has a CPU for determining an opening time and a conversion time, set in a non-injection period between preceding and present injections, in an interception process every fuel injection, and a control circuit for controlling a converting unit, independent of the operation of the CPU, to convert an analog signal, indicating fuel pressure of an injector, into a converted value at the conversion time. The CPU determines a closing time from the opening time and the converted value in another interception process. The device has a driving circuit for starting the valve opening at the opening time to open the injector and to inject fuel from the opened injector into an engine and starting the valve closing at the closing time to close the injector and to stop the fuel injection when the injected fuel reaches a required quantity.

  • Patent number: 8279571
Abstract: A transmission delay line is introduced between the switch and the power output side of a power switching system so that sparking of the load is hidden from the switch by the time delay of the transmission line. This makes it possible to detect the load spark and actively protect the switch, typically by turning the switch off, before it actually knows that there has been a load fault spark. Alternatively, the delay of the transmission line is long enough so that the switch has already been turned off in normal pulse operation before the load fault current reaches the switch. Either way, the switch will be turned off under normal current flow and will not be subject to destructive over-current or over-voltage conditions.

  • Patent number: 8277608
Abstract: A method of treating pulp in connection with the bleaching of chemical pulp, said method including treating of the pulp in at least an ozone, chlorine dioxide or alkali phase and thereafter washing of the pulp in a washing device having an E10 value of at least 3, whereby washing liquid is introduced into the washing device countercurrently in relation to the pulp and filtrate is discharged from the washing device. At first the pulp is washed in the washing device so that the washing liquid is filtrate obtained from the washing device itself and the amount of thus circulated washing liquid is 1.5 - 3.5 t/adt pulp, whereafter the pulp is washed with liquid introduced from outside the washing device, the amount of said liquid being such that the dilution factor in the latter wash is less than 1 t/adt and that the total amount of washing liquid used in the washing device is such that the dilution factor is more than 0 t/adt.

  • Patent number: 8277946
Abstract: In certain example embodiments, a coated article includes respective layers including hydrogenated diamond-like carbon (DLC) and zirconium nitride before heat treatment (HT). During HT, the hydrogenated DLC acts as a fuel which upon combustion with oxygen produces carbon dioxide and/or water. The high temperature developed during this combustion heats the zirconium nitride to a temperature(s) well above the heat treating temperature, thereby causing the zirconium nitride to be transformed into a new post-HT layer including zirconium oxide that is very scratch resistant and durable.
