  • Patent number: 8262851
Abstract: A non-compression vessel, such as a digester, is employed for the chemical preconditioning of the chips followed by a fiberizing device to break the preconditioned chips down to fiber bundles, which are then washed before a high consistency chemical treatment. The digester may be one such as used in conventional chemical pulping of wood with or without screens for the extraction of chemical. If extracted this chemical could be recirculated to the digester with treatment in the circulation loop such as heating or the addition of dilution or other chemicals. This digester may be hydraulic or vapor phase (that is contain a vapor space within the digester), and operate in either a continuous or batch fashion. This digester allows for the discharge of material without the use of a screw mechanism. The digester treated material is then defiberized to convert the chips into course fiber bundles, which then is washed and dewatered.

  • Patent number: 8264127
Abstract: The present invention provides a low frequency acoustic transducer for non-destructive testing of a test structure. The transducer is arranged for conversion between electrical energy and acoustic energy associated with an acoustic wave propagating through a portion of the test structure. The transducer comprises a bending actuator for generating the acoustic wave by generating a vibration from an electrical signal or for generating an electrical signal from a vibration generated by the received acoustic wave. The bending actuator has a vibration surface and a contact area surrounded by a portion of the vibration surface. The transducer further comprises a mode setting member that has a rigid portion which is in direct mechanical contact with the bending actuator at the contact area such that, within the contact area, an amplitude of the vibration is substantially suppressed. The location and shape of the contact area determine a bending mode associated with a resonance frequency of the bending actuator.

  • Patent number: 8261959
Abstract: Friction stir welding equipment control force spindle for mounting in an orbital head housing uses a coaxial sensor to measure downforce. Simultaneously, an axial electrical actuator is controlled to dynamically correct the axial tool position during the welding, by a direct axial force system control, in order to maintain controlled downforce according to parameters previously set, based on numerical control. The equipment also sets up, monitors and controls spindle rotation speed, welding speed, acceleration speed and downforce using for example closed loop control functions. A laser system may scan the backing surface before welding and correct original tool path, in order to get an offset tool path. A precision alarm system may provide safe welding while preventing the tool from colliding with the backing surface.

  • Patent number: 8263066
Abstract: Disclosed are cells and methods for treating or preventing tumor formation or infections with pathogens in a patient. The cells of the invention are antigen-presenting cells (e.g., dendritic cells or macrophage) that have been loaded with RNA derived from tumors or pathogens. By administering the RNA-loaded antigen-presenting cells to a patient, tumor formation or pathogen infections can be treated or prevented. Alternatively, the RNA-loaded cells can be used as stimulator cells in the ex vivo expansion of CTL. Such CTL can then be used in a variation of conventional adoptive immunotherapy techniques.

  • Patent number: 8265033
Abstract: A radio terminal connection may be handed over from a serving base station associated with a serving cell to a closed subscriber group (CSG) cell served by a CSG base station in which only radio terminals belonging to the CSG are permitted to access and receive service from the CSG cell. Radio terminals in the serving cell are generally informed not to report to the serving base station signal quality measurements of signals transmitted by CSG base stations. But if a radio terminal in the serving cell is authorized to access and receive service from the CSG cell, then that radio terminal is instructed to report to the serving base station signal quality measurements of signals transmitted by the CSG base station. Based on that report, the connection may be handed over to the CSG base station. A central node provides a CSG authorization list identifying CSG authorized radio terminals to the serving base station when a listed CSG cell is a neighboring cell which the radio terminal is authorized to access.

  • Patent number: 8266482
Abstract: An integrated circuit includes a signal source and a signal destination linked by a signal path. Error correction codes (e.g. Hamming codes) are applied to the signals to be transmitted. Errors detected in the signal transmission are used to control an operating parameter of the signal path, such as signal voltage level, body bias voltage, clock frequency and/or temperature. The control applied is closed-loop feedback control seeking to maintain a finite non-zero predetermined error rate. The technique can also be used between a memory accessing integrated circuit and a separate memory integrated circuit. Furthermore, the technique can be used to provide fixed, but differing operating parameters for signal lines within a signal path.

  • Patent number: 8265062
Abstract: A system and method for treating a VoIP call in a special fashion when the call is to be routed from an originating gateway to a destination gateway over the Internet. The system and method make use of a special decline destination gateway which may be configured to return a special cost code to the originating gateway when the originating gateway attempts to establish a telephone call with the decline destination gateway. A routing controller of the system would provide the originating gateway with a list of potential destination gateways, and the decline destination gateway would always be the last entry on the list. This would cause the originating gateway to first attempt to place the call through the other potential destination gateways. However, if none of the other destination gateways can be used, the originating gateway will ultimately attempt to place the call through the decline destination gateway.
