Abstract: A device capable of being operated by remote control for driving a part on a vehicle uses an ultrasonic linear actuator as a source for driving the part on a vehicle. An ultrasonic linear actuator neither produces electromagnetic noises nor is influenced by electromagnetic noises, which is useful for electronization of parts on a vehicle.
Abstract: An improved method of managing media defects in disk drives keeps an operating list of the tracks in the disk drive, and for each track enters on the list the number of good sectors (i.e., those free of defects) in that track. Thus the information on the operating list is sufficient for the disk drive microprocessor to avoid use of the defective sectors, each of which is labelled in its header as being defective. This method is compatible with SCSI and other common disk drive interfaces.

Abstract: A floating type magnetic head for a magnetic disk drive. A slider, in which a magnetic core is incorporated, is fixed by adhesive to a gimbal with a hole formed on the side of the gimbal in contact with the magnetic core. Deformation of the magnetic core by the adhesive is prevented and the position of the magnetic core with respect to the magnetic disk is stabilized without deforming the magnetic core.
Abstract: In an optical reader a lens is mounted in and held in a mounting recess at a portion of the tip of a casing accommodating a light emitting element and a light receiving element, the recess continuing from a tapered bore through which light from the light emitting element passes. The casing is formed by resin molding, and the mounting recess has a flat bottom surface. Therefore, the apparatus can be manufactured at low cost while preventing the lens from becoming damaged during its press fitting into the recess, and also enabling the lens to be securely held therein.
Abstract: A thin film magnetic head used for a magnetic disk device. The thin film magnetic head comprises two magnetic layers, a magnetic insulating layer sandwiched between the magnetic layers, an intermediate magnetic layer which is thinner than the magnetic layers, and an intermediate magnetic insulating layer formed in the vicinity of a gap surface between the intermediate magnetic layer and one of the magnetic layers. A track width in the gap surface of the intermediate magnetic layer is narrower than a track width in the gap surface of the two magnetic layers.
Abstract: A rotary head type magnetic recording/reproducing apparatus having two playback heads A' and B' for verifying the recorded condition after recording on a magnetic tape by two recording/reproducing heads A and B (read-after-write) by which any recording error is found immediately. Two playback heads A' and B' are mounted, respectively, at positions separated by 90.degree. around a rotational center axis relative to the recording/reproducing heads A and B along the head rotating direction. Heads A' and B' are mounted also deviating by a particular dimension relative to the recording/reproducing heads A and B, along a direction perpendicular to the head scanning direction. Since read-after-write is performed immediately after recording, any recording error is found almost simultaneously with recording, by performing read-after-write as in normal reading.

A positioning mechanism for positioning the rotational shaft of the photosensitive drum is attached through the opening at a predetermined position and is capable of transmitting the drive of the driving mechanism. Thus, the process cartridge can be detached or attached from or to the housing elevationally with respect to the housing and the cartridge can be attached or detached while an operator stands still.

Abstract: A motion detecting device comprises an encoder for generating two signals of A phase and B phase, 90.degree. out of phase with each other, when a member being measured is subject to an inclination or swaying. A pulse generation section generates a positive pulse or a negative pulse, depending on the direction of the inclination, at each of the leading and trailing edges of the A phase and B phase signals. An up/down counter counts up or down the positive or negative pulses, respectively, and an inclination detection section outputs an inclination generation signal when the member being measured is sufficiently inclined, in either a positive or negative direction, so as to cause a counter value to be above a first set value or below a second set value.
