Patent number: 8174363Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide RFID systems having a centralized frequency source and controller. The centralized frequency source generates a reference signal, having a frequency below the RF band of interest, which is transmitted to a plurality of reader nodes. The centralized controller generates and transmits data to the plurality of reader nodes. At each reader node, the reference signal is converted to an RF carrier signal that is modulated and transmitted within corresponding read field of the reader node. This modulated RF carrier signal may interrogate and communicate with one or more RFID tags within this read field. The RF carrier signal may also be held constant to enable communication from RFID tags to the reader node, which is subsequently transmitted back to the centralized controller or processor.Type: GrantFiled: July 16, 2008Date of Patent: May 8, 2012Assignee: Maxim Integrated Products, Inc.Inventor: John Clay Greene

Patent number: 8165017Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide a GMPLS fast re-route of packets within a network using a multicast address and a table comprising a list of alias IP addresses. According to various embodiments of the invention an alternate data path from a source node to a destination node allows a packet to traverse to the destination node without IP forwarding techniques being applied. In other words, a tunneling effect from a source node to a destination node allows other nodes in the network to ignore the packet and only read the multicast address within the header and immediately forward the packet to the destination node. A predetermined set of IP addresses are determined from network topology including all potential paths, for a packet to traverse, to a destination address.Type: GrantFiled: February 14, 2011Date of Patent: April 24, 2012Assignee: Infinera CorporationInventor: Biao Lu

Patent number: 8149909Abstract: In some embodiments, macroblock-level encoding parameters are assigned to weighted Linear combinations of corresponding content-category-level encoding parameters. A macroblock quantization parameter (QP) modulation is set to a weighted linear combination of content category QP modulations. Content categories may identify potentially overlapping content types. The combination weights may be similarity measures describing macroblock similarities to content categories. A macroblock may be associated with multiple content categories, with different similarity levels for different content categories. A similarity measure for a given macroblock with respect to a content category may be defined as a number (between 0 and 8) of neighboring macroblocks that meet a similarity condition, provided the macroblock meets a qualification condition. The similarity condition may be computationally simpler than the qualification condition. Content-category-level statistics are generated by combining block-level statistics.Type: GrantFiled: October 13, 2005Date of Patent: April 3, 2012Assignee: Maxim Integrated Products, Inc.Inventors: Ilie Garbacea, Lulin Chen, Jose R. Patent number: 8124916Abstract: Apparatus and methods that minimize surface defect development in silicon wafers during thermal processing at relatively high temperatures at which silicon wafers are annealed and at less extreme temperature, or for other purposes. The apparatus and methods have utility to horizontally-disposed furnaces for silicon wafers and to vertically-oriented furnaces in which larger wafers can be thermally processed. A selectively-sealable process tube encloses silicon wafers during heating of the silicon wafers to a predetermined temperature, and a heating atmosphere supply system induces through the process tube a positive flow of a process gas, such as hydrogen or argon, that is non-reactive with solid silicon at the predetermined temperature. A process tube outlet vents gas from the process tube, and an impurity sensor in the process tube outlet detects oxygen and moisture in the vented gas to verify the purity of the atmosphere surrounding the wafers during thermal processing.Type: GrantFiled: April 16, 2007Date of Patent: February 28, 2012Assignee: Maxim Integrated Products, Inc.Inventors: Amit S. Patent number: 8098602Abstract: A data transmission technique where high speed data is transmitted differentially in a forward channel by way of a serial link, and relatively low speed data is differentially modulated onto the forward channel signal for transmission in a reverse channel via the link. By utilizing differential modulation in both forward and reverse channels, the resulting signal has a common mode voltage that is substantially constant, resulting in low EMI. The spectral content of the signal associated with the high speed data may be substantially non-overlapping with the spectral content of the signal associated with the low speed data. This facilitates the recovery of the high speed data and low speed data with minimal interference. The differential signaling lends itself for communicating data via an inexpensive medium, such as twisted wire pair or parallel PCB traces. The data transmission technique applies to various communication network topologies: point-to-point, daisy-chain, and point-to-multiple points.Type: GrantFiled: August 21, 2009Date of Patent: January 17, 2012Assignee: Maxim Integrated Products, Inc.Inventors: Qiang Wu, Caglar Yilmazer, Mustafa Ertugrul Oner

Patent number: 8098788Abstract: An apparatus that includes a module for controlling the frequency of a voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) as part of a phase locked loop (PLL), or clock and data recovery (CDR) when an input reference signal to the PLL or serial data to the CDR has ceased from being received. In particular, the apparatus comprises a VCO adapted to generate a VCO clock signal, a first control module adapted to control the frequency of the VCO clock signal based on the input reference signal, and a second control module adapted to control the frequency of the VCO clock signal in response to an absence of the input reference signal. By controlling the frequency of the VCO clock signal during an absence of the input reference signal, the first control module is able to more easily re-acquire control the frequency of the VCO clock signal when the input reference signal is received again.Type: GrantFiled: May 21, 2008Date of Patent: January 17, 2012Assignee: Maxim Integrated Products, Inc.Inventors: Mustafa Ertugrul Oner, Arda Kamil Bafra, Levent Yakay

Patent number: 8064486Abstract: The present invention provides a system, apparatus, and method for determining latency differences in channels within a link at a single test site. In particular, the method allows for a single transmitting device to determine distinct latency differences on both transmitter and receiver-side paths without requiring a terminating node on the other side of the connection. In other words, a switch is used, in lieu of such a terminating node, at the other side of the paths that switches at least one channel's content onto another channel and sends it back for a round trip on various transmitter-and-receiver-side-paths combinations. The present invention is based on round trip measurements and switching capability of the receiving node.Type: GrantFiled: September 7, 2007Date of Patent: November 22, 2011Assignee: Infinera CorporationInventor: Zhong Pan

Patent number: 8049324Abstract: An integrated circuit (IC) package includes a printed circuit board (PCB) substrate and a plurality of package attachment terminals. The package attachment terminals are used to conduct electrical signals from a die that is attached and bonded onto the PCB substrate. The PCB substrate has a side edge and includes a plurality of electrically-conductive paths. Each one of the plurality of paths includes an electroplated bond pad, a trace, and a stub trace. The die is connected to the bond pad and the trace couples the bond pad to a respective one of the package attachment terminals. The stub trace is used to facilitate the electroplating process. The stub trace extends from the trace and terminates at a distance away from the side edge. The stub trace is not visible from the side of the IC package and therefore prevents access to IC buses on the package.Type: GrantFiled: May 3, 2007Date of Patent: November 1, 2011Assignee: Maxim Integrated Products, Inc.Inventor: Ruben C.
