Abstract: A vehicle mountable load carrier generally includes a connecting member for insertion into a hitch mount receiver of a vehicle, an upright post connected to the connecting member and an upright load supporting member coupled to the upright post by an extendable support arm having an open and closed positions. The extendable support arm includes at least a first section and a second section and has a pivoting coupling therebetween such that at least the second section can be moved between a closed position and an open position. The pivoting coupling includes a releasable lock to retain the extendable support arm in a locked-open position.

Abstract: A mobile communication device is provided which includes at least one hinge mechanism pivotably coupled to a top member and to a base member such that the top member can be moved between an opened and a closed position. In the closed position, display and/or interface elements may be inside the device and adjacent to the base member, thereby being inaccessible and protected. In the opened position, the display and/or interface elements may be accessible. A biasing mechanism may drive a portion of the movement between the opened and closed positions. The top member and the base member may be biased or restricted such that there is substantially no separation between the top member and the base member during movement between the opened and closed positions.

Abstract: A method and system of managing resources for on-demand computing is provided. The system can include one or more pools having resources, and a provisioning manager in communication with the one or more pools. The provisioning manager can receive a request for a resource from the requestor and can obtain values for one or more categories associated with the resources. The values can be obtained for at least a portion of the resources. The one or more categories can be based on quantifiable properties associated with the resources. The provisioning manager can determine a priority score for each of the at least a portion of the resources. The provisioning manager can determine a resource from the at least a portion of the resources to be distributed to the requester, where the determination can be based at least in part on the priority score for the resource.

Abstract: A geophysical survey method and system that comprises: measuring along multiple axes at multiple locations within a survey area magnetic field components of a low frequency magnetic field resulting from naturally occurring electromagnetic sources using a first sensor system; measuring along multiple axes magnetic field components of a low frequency magnetic field resulting from naturally occurring electromagnetic sources using a second sensor system; and receiving information about the magnetic field components measured by the first sensor system and the second sensor system and in dependence thereon computing parameters from the received information that are independent of rotation of the first sensor system or the second sensor system about any axis thereof.

Abstract: Scanning multiple barcodes, storing different code types, in a single scanning operation and automatically recording the data derived from the barcodes. The data can be stored in a form or database having designated locations for each different code type. In some embodiments, the present technology is useful in conducting a retail transaction and facilitates a simplified transaction when the product for purchase has multiple barcodes printed thereon.

Abstract: A system and method for adjusting a notification setting of a handheld electronic device is provided. The method includes receiving a request to adjust a notification setting which causes the electronic device to display a notification module on a display of the electronic device. The notification module includes a plurality of control portions each corresponding to a notification setting which can be adjusted within the corresponding control portion. The method further includes detecting a selection proximate to a control portion and inputting a notification setting change based upon a selection executed within one of the control portions. The notification setting is adjusted in response to the notification setting change.

Abstract: A method and portable device for capturing a still image is described. The portable device comprises both an image projector for projecting images and a sensor for capturing images. A first image is captured and a flash image is generated based on the captured first image to adjust lighting of the image subject. The generated flash image is projected onto the image subject using the projector and a second image is captured while the flash image is projected onto the image subject.

Abstract: A skewer assembly for a rack mount having a cam disposed against a cam follower actuable from an open configuration to a closed configuration, the skewer assembly further having a lock assembly integrated with the cam follower and a locking member located within a radial contact surface perimeter of the cam. The skewer further having a tightening assembly with a ratcheting nut which is incapable of being loosened when the skewer is placed in tension. Moreover, the skewer assembly covers the access holes to the internal hardware of the rack mount when inserted therein.

Abstract: A handheld electronic device includes an input apparatus, an output apparatus, and a processor apparatus. The input apparatus includes a reduced keyboard and roller ball input. The roller ball input includes a movable portion that is substantially continuously rotatable with respect to a housing of the device and is rotatable about more than one axis providing input. The processor apparatus includes a disambiguation routine that can output various proposed interpretations of inputs from the reduced keyboard. The roller ball input advantageously provides various inputs to the handheld electronic device without requiring significant user attention, which enables a user to direct greater amount of attention to the output from the disambiguation routine and other aspects of the device. The roller ball input can be configured to additionally be translatable to provide an input, and additionally and/or alternatively the roller ball input can provide a tactile or other feedback to a user.

Abstract: Storage tiering uses file system awareness of storage class for storage allocation or migration of a storage object from one class of storage to another. For example, the storage object is a production file system, a logical unit number (LUN) of storage, or a snapshot copy of the production file system or LUN. Each storage class may comprise a different back-end disk type, such as Fiber Channel, ATA, etc. Storage allocation or migration is based on storage class to implement a storage policy, such as: (a) move snapshots off the class of storage of the production object and onto a different class of storage; (b) direct new writes to a specified class of storage; or (c) writes targeting a particular storage object are targeted to a particular class of storage.

Abstract: A mobile communication device, a corresponding connecting mechanism and method are provided. The device comprises a connecting mechanism which rotatably couples a lid member and a base member at a linked end of the device. The connecting mechanism also translationally couples the lid and the base member. When the device is in the closed position, displacing the lid member of the device in the direction of the free end of the device may initiate movement of the device to the opened position.

Abstract: Presenting content within an application on a device is disclosed. Receiving notification of new content within an application at a device is disclosed. Presenting the received notification at the device is disclosed. Receiving a selection of the notification, and displaying the new content in the screen directly following receiving the selection of the notification are disclosed. Notification can be received outside the application, e.g., by posting notification on a social network, posting notification to a web site, and posting a message to a user's avatar in a virtual world. A selection can be received while the device is offline, in which case the new content displayed is that content stored on the device.

Abstract: Embodiments of the disclosure are concerned with a method and a system for distributing mobile applications, in particular to aspects of receiving, processing and displaying advertisements on mobile terminals. In one aspect, embodiments provide a software component for controlling movement of an advertisement image on a mobile terminal, the mobile terminal comprising a display area and a processor, the software component comprising processable instructions defining movement of the advertisement image relative to the display area, wherein the instructions are wirelessly transmissable to the mobile terminal and the processor is arranged to process said instructions in order to move the advertisement image.

Abstract: A system and method detects an amount of data attributed to a device including reports sent to the device, and reduces the amount of data being used to provide reports to the device if the amount of data attributed to the device exceeds an amount assigned to the device. Data uploaded from the device is also minimized.

Abstract: A system comprises a point-of-sale (POS) terminal, a POS controller, a retail subscription system. The POS terminal allows a cashier to enter subscription sales data into the POS controller. The POS controller maintains databases on available subscriptions and produces databases containing data relating to subscriptions sold to customers. The retail subscription system verifies the subscriptions by reference to its own databases and transmits the subscriptions to a fulfillment house for distribution.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are systems, methods, and computer-readable media for quantifying visibility into a search engine and into search results for a specific query into a search engine. A system configured to practice the method obtains a first set of search results from a search engine, using a name of an entity and at least one additional search term relating to attributes of the entity, and obtains a second set of search results, from the search engine, using the name without the at least one additional search term. The system determines what search results in the first set of search results are in the second set of search results. Then the system can generate an indicator that relates information about how many results from the first set of search results were in the second set of search results to a total number of results in the first set of search results.

Abstract: There is disclosed a user interface for selecting a photo tag. In an embodiment, the user interface embodies a method of selecting a photo tag for a tagged photo, comprising: providing a tag entry field for entering a photo tag; in dependence upon a string entered by a user, displaying in a matching tag list any tags from one or more selected tag sources matching the entered string. The method may further comprise displaying a tag type for each tag appearing in the matching tag list. The method may further comprise allowing user selection of a tag in the matching tag list to complete the tag entry field.

Abstract: A skid plate for a concrete saw is integrally cast having two end mounting portions and a middle portion with a slot in the middle portion. A horizontal slot in a leading end mounting portion cooperates and a vertical slot in the trailing end portion releasably engage pins on the saw to allow the skid plate to be easily fastened to and removed from the saw. A spring loaded latch mechanism holds the pins in the slots.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and computer-readable media for managing end-to-end security over an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS)-enabled network are provided. A first subscriber module accesses an IMS network via an access gateway as a roaming network. The roaming network routes a request for a session from the first subscriber module from its P-CSCF to the I-CSCF of a third-party home network. The third party home network, in turn, routes the request to an S-CSCF implemented at the subscriber's home network, which comprises a second subscriber module. In this way, the session between the two subscriber modules is managed by the subscriber's S-CSCF rather than by a carrier's IMS network, and the subscriber may administer the security relationship without reliance on the carrier or the third party.
