  • Patent number: 7535796
Abstract: A method and a system for detection and position determination of chips, which transmit ultrasound signals in a room. The system comprises electronic identification chips, which are attached to objects that have to be monitored. Each chip is equipped with a transmitter and a receiver. The signals are received by a plurality of detector units, which are connected to a detector base unit that registers and interprets the signals transmitted form the identification chips. Detector base units located in different rooms are interconnected in a network and transmit processed information to one or more central units for further interpretation and sorting. The special feature of the invention is that line interference is substantially removed, and it is possible to determine position even though the identification chips are in motion.

  • Patent number: 7507904
Abstract: An electrical cable includes a first electrical conductor longitudinally surrounded by a first insulator, and a second electrical conductor that is substantially parallel to the first electrical conductor. The second electrical conductor is substantially longitudinally surrounded by a second insulator, and the second insulator includes a recess to partially expose the second electrical conductor. A metal layer longitudinally surrounds the first and second insulators. In another embodiment, an electrical cable includes a first electrical conductor and a second electrical conductor parallel to the first electrical conductor. An insulator longitudinally individually surrounds each of the first and second electrical conductors, and the insulator includes a radial recess through which the first electrical conductor is accessible. A metal layer longitudinally encapsulates the insulator and fills the recess such that the metal layer contacts the first electrical conductor through the recess.

  • Patent number: 7504890
Abstract: A data-directed frequency-and-phase lock loop for an offset-QAM modulated signal comprises a first multiplier that multiplies the signal by the output of a VCO. The output of the first multiplier is phase-shifted by a second multiplier, then convolved by a third multiplier. The output of the third multiplier is split, with each portion being passed through a frequency-shift multiplier and a frequency-and-phase lock loop. The output of the two frequency-and-phase lock loops is summed and returned to the VCO to complete the feedback loop.

  • Patent number: 7496165
Abstract: A device for motion-compensated noise evaluation for mobile wireless transmission systems, in which reference symbols are sent out by a transmitter, includes storage devices for reference symbols sent out in direct or indirect temporal succession and furnished to a receiver. The device computes a static component of the received reference symbols by forming a statistical moment from at least some of the reference symbols saved in the storage devices. A dynamic component of the received reference symbols is determined from the difference of at least two reference symbols saved in the storage devices, and a prediction device determines a predicted value for the next reference symbol supplied by the receiver by using the static component and the dynamic component of the reference symbols. A prediction error is determined from the difference between the predicted reference symbol and the next reference symbol supplied by the receiver, and an estimate for the noise is computed.

  • Patent number: 7459732
Abstract: A gas-sensitive field-effect transistor may be formed from a substrate with a gas-sensitive layer and a transistor processed separately and then assembled. The substrate may be patterned to form spacers by which the height of an air gap between the transistor and the sensitive layer may be adjustable to a relatively precise degree. Formation of the spacers can be achieved by patterning the substrate using material-removal techniques. The height of the spacers may be adjusted in the layer thickness of the gas-sensitive layer and for the transistor fabricated using a CMOS process. Suitable techniques for producing recesses between the spacers include, for example, polishing, cutting, sandblasting, lithographic dry etching, or wet-chemical etching. Suitable materials for the substrate may include, for example, glass, ceramic, aluminum oxide, silicon, or a dimensionally stable polymer.

  • Patent number: 7451471
Abstract: An optical ring network for use, for example, in a motor vehicle, includes an optical data line that defines a ring network, a playback transducer and at least one data source connected to the optical data line, where the data source provides compressed data onto the optical data line. The network also includes at least one data sink connected to the optical data line, which receives the compressed data from the optical data line. The data sink includes a bit stream decoder that decompresses the received compressed data and provides the decompressed data to the playback transducer. The local network transmits audio and video data in compressed form via the data line, and has a single bit stream decoder, centrally situated at the respective data sink, for decompressing the audio and/or video data. As a result, the individual data sources no longer need their own bit stream decoder for decompressing the data.

  • Patent number: 7422816
Abstract: A fuel cell system includes a fuel cell and a fuel infeed device. The fuel cell has first and second electrodes (cathode and anode). A layer with catalytic activity permeable to protons is between the electrodes. A fuel supply device provides a fuel, and a reactant supply device provides a reactant that reacts with protons from the fuel to produce current. The fuel and reactant supply devices are located directly on the face of an electrode. The fuel infeed device is connected to the fuel supply device for feeding in the fuel, the fuel supply device being one of the electrodes. The fuel supply device also stores the fuel. Besides supplying an electrical circuit with the fuel cell system as a micro energy supply device, the fuel cell system as a fuel infeed device also has an integrated electrolysis unit for regenerating the fuel supply.

  • Patent number: 7421289
Abstract: A telephone system for a motor vehicle includes a transmit/receive unit that transmits data over a wireless communication channel, and receives data over the wireless communication channel and provides a received signal. The system also includes a control unit that communicates with the transmit/receive unit; a first memory device; and a computing device. The computing device receives the received signal and automatically stores the received signal data in the first memory device when the telephone system is configured in a stand-by mode, which allows incoming data to be stored in the memory device while selectively preventing the transmission of outgoing calls originated by the control unit to the transmit/receive unit. Data can be sent to the motor vehicle telephone system and can be stored there for retrieval by the operator when he returns to the vehicle. The data may include audio and/or video data.
