  • Patent number: 8210581
Abstract: A door handle assembly for attachment to an escutcheon, the assembly comprising a door handle, wear washer, spindle nut, spindle nut retainer, and shaft retainer. The door handle has a hub, externally threaded for engagement with the internal threads of the spindle nut, with a central hole and axial slots engaging locking tabs of the spindle nut retainer. The wear washer is inserted over the hub between the inside surface of the escutcheon and the spindle nut. The spindle nut is adjusted on the hub until the proper fit and feel is achieved. The spindle nut retainer is placed over the spindle nut to lock it in position, and a shaft retainer is placed over the spindle nut retainer to secure it. The spindle nut provides more contact surface area with the underlying wear washer, reducing cyclic wear, increasing product life, reliability and security.

  • Patent number: 8181584
Abstract: An improved apparatus for on-line coal flow control in vertical spindle mills comprising a plurality of independently adjustable flow control elements and positioning rods that adjust the positioning of those flow control elements. Each flow control element is positioned within the discharge turret of the vertical spindle mill along the outer wall of the discharge turret proximate the entrance to its corresponding coal outlet pipe. The adjustable rods are seated on the side or top of the discharge turret of the coal pulverizer and are connected to the flow control element horizontally or vertically as the case may be. The flow control elements can be independently rotated by +/?90 degrees about the positioning rod axis, moved back and forth in the horizontal plane, and can also be moved up and down in the vertical plane. Therefore, each flow control element has three degrees-of-freedom: one rotational and two linear displacements.

  • Patent number: 8182546
Abstract: A secure anchoring strap over a prosthetic socket for securing a sleeve. The anchoring strap generally comprises a first strap attached at one end to one side of a closed loop buckle. The first strap laden with hook-attachments comprises a woven inner outer material fabric or loop material. A second strap Is attached at one end to another side of the closed loop buckle, the second strap comprising a laden with hook-attachments and a woven Inner outer material fabric or loop material. A user simply wraps the attachment strap around a margin of their sleeve overlying their prosthetic socket, and passes the free end of the first strap back through the closed loop buckle. They pull the opposing free ends of the straps taught, and secure the inner hook-material of the respective straps to the opposing woven fabric beneath, thereby securing the strap tightly in a flush configuration.

  • Patent number: 8177663
Abstract: In accordance with the present invention, a golf putter and method of adjustment of the golf putter are provided. The golf putter includes two threaded connections, one between a weighting element and a putter head, and one between a screw fastener and a replaceable striking surface attachment. The weighting element may be attached to the putter head by manual manipulation. The striking surface attachment may be attached to the putter head by a magnetic connection or any other attachment means suitable for easy replacement during a practice or experimentation mode, and is further configured to be attached to a screw fastener using a tool such that the golf putter is in compliance with rules. The screw fastener passes through the weighting element so that it locks the weighting element simultaneously when affixing the striking surface attachment, thus rendering the weighting element non-removable without the use of a tool.

  • Patent number: 8162670
Abstract: The present invention is a kit and method of mounting a game animal that allows for antlers or horns to be quickly added or interchanged to an otherwise artificial mount. The method generally comprises the following steps: measuring the game animal, taking at least one picture of the game animal, caping the head, cutting the skull, boiling the skull cap, selecting the form, cutting the skull cap to fit the selected form, drilling holes in the skull cap, adding clay to the form, fitting the skull plate to the form, placing screws through the holes in the skull cap, covering the skull cap attached to the form with flaps from the artificial hair, trimming the excess material from the flaps, tucking the flaps around the antler or horn base, and bending the ears of the form to the desired position. The above-described method creates an odorless trophy that is durable, will remain intact for decades, and which has more consistent, lifelike, and more realistic facial features.

  • Patent number: 8147555
Abstract: A multi-piece disc replacement implant device for replacing a disc removed by a discectomy including an upper plate member, a lower plate member, and an intermediate resilient member providing movement between the two plate members replicating the natural movement of the spine including flexion/extension, lateral bending, and, in some embodiments, rotation. The plate members are rigid and have orthogonal sidewalls forming an enclosure. The resilient member is an elastic solid or a multi-chamber balloon structure of fluid-filled sacks that collectively define a non-uniform shape such as an oblate spheroid, or a helically coiled string of beads. Such an implant is capable of supporting the compressive and cyclic loads required of a natural disc. The upper and lower plate members are cooperatively formed to selectively limit the allowable range of motion in any given direction.

  • Patent number: 8146186
Abstract: A method and device for accurately easily and accurately positioning patients with breast cancer in the prone position for imaging and radiotherapy is disclosed. The device is a couch or support structure with a double-layer structure that allows relative planar motion between the two layers. To easily slide the top layer, an array of ball transfer units is embedded on the upper side of the bottom layer while the under side of the top layer has a corresponding array of bearing plates to prevent the ball transfer units from grinding into the top layer. A locking mechanism is specially designed to interlock the two layers safely when a knob handle is tightened. A frame of bars is attached to the bottom layer to constrain translation of the top layer. Each layer has two openings for the through insertion of breasts. When a patient lies in the prone position, the breast to be treated is pendent through the couch, and the untreated breast may be blocked from radiation exposure by a removable opening cover.

  • Patent number: 8144453
Abstract: A suspension system for a differential-pressure touch sensitive panel suspended over force sensors, for use in either fixed or mobile devices such as point of sales terminals, kiosks, laptops, monitors, PDAs, cell phones, UMPCs and more. In one embodiment, each side of the lens is encircled and supported by a looped string, monofilament or flexible wire, which is then looped around the back cover or base plate, forming a figure-8. The figure 8-loops bring the lens into a fixed state in the xy-plane without the addition of any friction causing physical contact. Other alternative implementations include continuous suspensions, bender suspensions and 3-dimensional force suspensions. Moreover, the present invention proposes the use of a flexible padding under the force sensors to allow the sensors to be slightly preloaded, which reduces the dependency on extremely tight mechanical tolerances.

  • Patent number: 8128115
Abstract: A garbage can cart having a rectangular platform base and back, front and side walls in which one or more garbage cans may be placed for storage and transport for disposal. The platform base is supported by a pair of wheels at the rear and a U-bar below the front of the base. A handle bar protrudes upward from the rear wall and curves rearward past the wheels for manually moving the cart. A tow adapter comprising a pair of straps is connected to the rear wall below the handle, the straps extending to distal tow block(s) that may be placed in the trunk of a vehicle and secured therein by closing the trunk. Pulling the tow straps tilts the cart backward about its wheels and lifts the U-bar support from the ground until the handle abuts the tow straps, thereby allowing towing of the cart behind the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 8092689
Abstract: A method of reducing styrene emissions in aqueous cured-in-place pipe closed molding processes and other aqueous environments using a styrene reduction agent. The reduction agent generally comprises a calibrated mixture of salts including sodium chloride plus three persulfate salts: ammonium (APS), potassium (KPS), and sodium (NPS). These ingredients are combined in powder form and are compressed into soluble capsules containing calibrated amounts of the mixture. The capsule(s) may be prescribed through the use of software. Capsule(s) are added to the cure water prior to starting the boiler equipment for the Cured-In-Place Pipe process in order to reduce the residual monomer content in either process or waste streams.
