  • Patent number: 6856084
Abstract: A fluorescent display device having a pseudo half mirror formed on a rear surface a face plate thereof and exhibiting a function like a neutral density filter. The face plate is formed on a whole rear surface thereof with an aluminum film including opening portions, non-opening portions and a solid portion. The opening and non-opening portions cooperate with each other to constitute a pseudo half mirror. The pseudo half mirror has light transmittance determined depending on a ratio in area between the opening portions and the non-opening portions. Thus, the light transmittance may be set as desired by varying the area ratio.

  • Patent number: 6469879
Abstract: Magneto-resistive tunnel junction head having a tunnel multilayered film with a tunnel barrier layer, a ferromagnetic free layer, and a ferromagnetic pinned layer formed as a sandwich. A magnetic field is applied to the free layer in a longitudinal direction by biasing elements at opposite ends, and a length of the free layer is greater than a length of the pinned layer such that the free layer has portions extending beyond opposite ends of the pinned layer. A head output suitable for ultra-high density recording can be obtained with less reduction of TMR ratio. Selection of the biasing element is flexible. A hard material and also an antiferromagnetic material can be selected and the biasing elements can be disposed on either an upper or lower side of the free layer at a desired distance.

  • Patent number: 6396792
Abstract: Laser light used to make crystal space portions on a recording layer is divided into, and irradiated in, at least two kinds of steps. Thus, the recording layer can be maintained in a temperature zone increasing the crystal nuclei generating frequency and in a temperature zone increasing the crystal growth rate with a good balance between these temperature zones. Therefore, it is possible to remove “fail-to-erase” portions upon making crystal space portions by promotion of crystallization and to improve the overwrite erasability. It is especially effective in a mode for recording on a recording medium in a non-initialized status, i.e., in a mode for recording crystal spaces on an as-depo amorphous-state medium.
