  • Patent number: 8176770
Abstract: A sniffing leak detector which comprises a mass spectrometer, a turbomolecular pump and a forevacuum pump. In case that the sniffing hose with the hand-operated sniffing probe becomes detached from the main device, atmospheric pressure would pass into the gas inlet conduit and disrupt the high vacuum in the mass spectrometer. In order to protect the mass spectrometer and the vacuum pump apparatus, a flow restrictor with an upstream filter is arranged in the gas inlet conduit.

  • Patent number: 8171773
Abstract: To achieve a large measurement range from small up to larger leakage rates, a switchover from normal operation to gross operation occurs. In gross operation, the sucked-in gas flow is separated by different throttles, wherein the throttle that leads to the test gas sensor has a low flow rate. This manner of operation prevents a too large quantity of test gas from reaching the sensor surface and contaminating the sensor. In another alternative, in gross operation the test gas flows only across a part of the sensor surface. The other part is flushed.

  • Patent number: 8168578
Abstract: A water-based composition for enhancing shine or gloss in an elastomeric surface is in the form of a stable aqueous dispersion having a pH of from about 6 to about 7 and containing by weight: (a) less than 10% of at least one polydiorganosiloxane fluid; (b) from about 0.02% to about 2.0% of an alkali-swellable acrylic homopolymer or copolymer crosslinked with a polyalkenyl polyether; and (c) water. In one embodiment, the composition contains less than 1% by weight of a wetting agent and has no additional surfactants, hydrotropes and emulsifying agents. The composition can be used to enhance shine or gloss in elastomeric surfaces such as rubber or vinyl, preferably automotive tires, by applying an effective amount of the composition to the surface and distributing the composition with an application implement. The composition contains less organopolysiloxane than commercial formulations but exhibits gloss-enhancing performance that is comparable or even higher than that exhibited by commercial compositions.

  • Patent number: 8138652
Abstract: A compact, rugged, variable reluctance, variable speed, electric motor capable of producing high torque at high electrical energy conversion efficiencies is provided. The present invention provides for a multi-stage motor design having a number of discreet rotor and stator elements on a common shaft. This configuration provides for the simplest of magnetic structures and produces a powerful magnetic flux modelling design technique that is used to further optimize the motor design and subsequent control logic. Thermal mapping of the magnetic mass provides for advanced cooling techniques that are used to ensure long in-service life in the most extreme of industrial applications. The electric motor inherently provides low vibration thereby greatly reducing noise; low turn to turn voltage potentials thereby eliminating costly phase to phase shorting potential; efficient motor operation through the reduction in switching and copper losses in both the machine and its control system.
