  • Patent number: 4170493
Abstract: A method of treating oxidized surfaces but especially metal surfaces using a mixture by which deep entry of porous rust can be achieved and reduction of the oxidation effected deep within the porous structure with substantial capacity to effect total conversion and especially with preferred chemicals, replacement with an insoluble protective coating can be effected. The process limits the need for physical removal of rust and the treatment of rust provides a different mechanism by which subsequent rusting can be reduced in the case of iron and steel and other metals.

  • Patent number: 4167828
Abstract: A spin casting fishing reel assembly is presented wherein actuation of the reel and feathering of the fishing line leaving the reel may both be accomplished at a single point forwardly of the reel itself. Fundamentally, the invention consists of a casing maintaining therein a spool about which the fishing line is wound. A tubular handle is connected to a front end portion of the casing with the fishing line leaving the reel and passing through the tubular handle. The handle includes an outer tubular member having an inner tubular member slidingly received therein. A spring-biased slide button is connected to the inner tubular member and rearward motion of the slide button by the user's thumb causes the inner tubular member to engage a cam maintained within the casing. This cam causes a retraction of a carrier pin to allow the line to be released from the spool, through the tubular handle, and across the slide button.

  • Patent number: 4167431
Abstract: An in-line method of forming a laminate of a heat sensitive foam sheet material, and a hot extruded polymeric product comprising hot extruding a polymeric material into a shaped product and while still hot contacting the shaped product with a face of the heat sensitive foam sheet material and thereafter cooling the resulting product. Such face is previously coated with a layer of a heat sealing substance which is activated at a temperature below the softening point of the heat sensitive foam sheet. The heat seal contact takes place under minimal pressure when the surface temperature of the shaped product is still high enough to activate the heat sealing substance but not high enough to damage the heat sensitive sheet. The laminates so made are part of the invention.

  • Patent number: 4166111
Abstract: A method and composition for destroying pest insects in their aquatic stage and other pest-life forms over a sustained period of time, by the gradual and continuous release of an organotin substance from an inert thermoplastic medium. The composition comprises an organotin of extremely low water solubility bound in an ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer, in which said organotin is insoluble and in which said organotin is uniformly dispersed with an inert coleachant of moderate to low water solubility. When this formulation is brought into contact with water, the coleachant gradually solvates into the water creating and enhancing the development of porosity within the thermoplastic phase. Said organotin agent, interspersed within the thermoplastic matrix, contacts the entering water and egresses as molecular aggregates being washed through the pore system and into the external watery medium.

  • Patent number: 4160351
Abstract: Apparatus for opening the front flap of a container moving on a conveyor line toward a filling station. The invention includes a circular brush maintained above the conveyor line and rotatable by means of an air motor. The air motor is mounted upon a support member having rollers at the bottom thereof and movable between adjustable stops defining a track, the track running parallel to the conveyor. An air cylinder, pivotally mounted to a bracket at one end thereof, has an extendable rod connected to the top of the support member at another end thereof. Actuation of the air cylinder and air motor causes the rod to pass the rotating brush along the conveyor with the brush making lifting engagement with the front flap of the container. At the end of the track, the support member stops and the rod causes the brush to pass through an arc, assisting in the opening of the flap. A limit switch senses the arcuate motion of the brush and causes the rod to retract to an original position.

  • Patent number: 4157410
Abstract: A composite pressure sensitive adhesive construction contains a central release liner, a layer of an adhesive on each side thereof, and an exterior release liner on at least one of the adhesive layers. The central release liner and the exterior release liner contain release coatings on surfaces thereof which contact the adhesive layer. The composite construction may be made up in the form of a roll for easy dispensing or in the form of a precut tape. The pressure sensitive adhesive construction is generally useful for making any type of sealing connection wherein an initial releasable connection is desired. For example, the pressure sensitive adhesive construction may be utilized in sealing pipe insulating jackets wherein the exterior release liners are removed and the adhesive construction is applied to the opposite longitudinal ends or sides of the insulating jacket cover.

  • Patent number: 4151790
Abstract: The coffee maker includes a reservoir and a heating chamber, having a vent tube, connected to the reservoir for receiving water therefrom, a heater for the heating chamber, and a coffee making area connected to the heating chamber. A control means is operated by a limited rise of temperature in the heating chamber to close the vent tube. A starter switch to control power supply to the coffee maker and a thermostatically controlled shut-off means is provided to open the starter switch and shut off power to the coffee maker when the heating chamber has no water therein and excessive temperatures are being realized in such heating chamber.A modified coffee maker eliminates the vent tube closure and provides for releasing a small quantity of water to a heating area and repeatedly heating small volumes of water for pumping action to discharge to a coffee making area, the invention also covering such method of making coffee by repeated heatings of small confined volumes of water to steam producing temperatures.

  • Patent number: 4147430
Abstract: A secondary detection system for utilization with a security validation apparatus wherein a sensing is made of the amount of light reflected from a given area of a paper security. Fundamentally, the invention consists of an infrared lamp or other emission source casting light through a tunnel and upon a highly reflective but partially transmissive surface. The reflective surface directs a large portion of the light onto the paper security. A first solar cell is provided in juxtaposition to the reflective surface for sensing the amount of light reflected onto the paper while a second solar cell is provided for receiving and sensing that quantity of light reflected back from the paper. A comparator circuit is interconnected between the two solar cells to determine the validity of the paper security on the basis of the percentage of light incident to the paper which is reflected therefrom.
