  • Patent number: 4130619
Abstract: This invention is directed toward making hollow racquet ball balls. This is accomplished by molding a mass of vulcanizable elastic material to hollow semi-spherical form and heating the bulk of the material substantially fully to vulcanize it while simultaneously cooling a portion around the full edge so it is only partially vulcanized at the edge area thereof. Then two of such semi-spherical forms have the edges thereof abutted under some pressure to force the uncured edges together, and heat is then applied to the uncured edges of each half to fully vulcanize them and bind them together to form a unitary seamless ball thereform.Apparatus for forming the balls includes mold means defining a hollow semi-spherical cavity with a cooling chamber being provided at the open edge of the cavity that defines an edge of the formed hollow half sphere whereby a cooling medium can be circulated at the edge to prevent vulcanization thereof while the remaining part of the hollow half sphere is heated and vulcanized.

  • Patent number: 4127328
Abstract: Apparatus for conducting secondary tests for security validation are presented. In one embodiment of the invention a light source, either infrared or visible, is cast upon two neighboring areas of a paper purported to be a valid instrument, these areas being of different light reflective characteristics. Photo cells are maintained in close juxtaposition to each of these two areas and the light reflected therefrom or passed therethrough is sensed by the photo cells. Comparator circuits are interconnected with the photo cells and, in part, determine the validity of the instrument on the basis of the comparison of the intensity of light reflected by each of the two areas. In another embodiment of the invention, a reference reflective surface is provided in juxtaposition to one of the photo cells to test those instruments not having neighboring areas of different light reflective characteristics.

  • Patent number: 4121482
Abstract: A W-N gear which has a surface strength at least nearly maximized for a given addendum and minimum pressure angle is realized by selecting a mean radius for the convex and concave circular arcs of the tooth profile in an appropriate range. Also, a dual=line mesh W-N gear of the character described which has a requisite face width minimized is obtained by selecting a mean arc radius which lies in the range referred to above and enables the addendum and dedendum points of meshing contact to appear at equal angle intervals.

  • Patent number: 4121791
Abstract: A lightweight, segmented, easily assembled aircraft having a hollow fuselage tube, upon which the cockpit, wing, empennage, landing gear, engine, and shell segments are supported and secured, is presented. The wing construction aerodynamically extends the effective wingspan of the aircraft and stabilizes flight by including an aileron slot, which rams positive pressured air from the lower surface of the wing over the upper surface of the wing to laminarize the turbulent air near the ailerons, and including an end plate, which is toed-in and canted towards the upper surface. A fore shell segment separates from and moves fowardly of a fixed, aft shell segment along a track apparatus, secured to the hollow fuselage tube, to permit access to the cockpit of the aircraft.
