  • Patent number: 4392127
Abstract: A grain moisture testing apparatus which can be used for testing of moisture content of other organic materials includes means to hold and crush the material against conductance measuring electrodes. These electrodes form one element of a voltage divider, the other element of which is formed by a resistor which is selectively adjustable among several distinct values. The resistance between the two electrodes, and thus the moisture content of the material proportional thereto, is determined by applying a constant voltage across the divider and sensing the voltage occuring across the electrodes. The voltage sensor is designed as a threshold switch which gives a simple Pass/Fail indication of acceptable moisture level. The apparatus also includes voltage supply testing means and circuit temperature testing and compensation means to assure the validity of the test.

  • Patent number: 4389270
Abstract: A composite pressure sensitive adhesive construction contains a central release liner, a layer of an adhesive on each side thereof, and optionally, an exterior release liner on at least one of the adhesive layers. The central release liner and the exterior release liner contain release coatings on surfaces thereof which contact the adhesive layer. The pressure sensitive adhesive construction may be utilized in sealing pipe insulating jackets wherein the exterior release liners are removed and the adhesive construction is applied to the opposite longitudinal ends or sides of the insulating jacket cover. The insulating jacket may then be stored until utilized whereupon the central release liner is removed, the jacket inserted about the pipe, and a sealing connection then made by pressing the two exposed adhesive layers together.

  • Patent number: 4387701
Abstract: A fluid friction furnace is provided having a water jacket surrounding an enclosure partially filled with a heat transfer fluid. A plurality of rotating discs sandwiched between a plurality of stationary plates are rotated inducing the heat transfer oil into grooves in the surface of the rotating discs and circulating the oil between the rotating discs and stationary plates. Continuing pressure is applied between the rotating discs and stationary plates to generate calibrated fluid pressures in the circulation of the heated transfer fluid. By virtue of this forced friction circulation, the heat transfer fluid heats the enclosure and the water jacket surrounding the same. Circulation of the water in the water jacket throughout conventional systems provides distribution of the heat.

  • Patent number: 4382887
Abstract: A novel glycopeptide is disclosed, which consists of a sugar moiety having a structural formula ##STR1## and a peptide moiety linking to the sugar moiety through N-glycoside bond. The glycopeptide is isolated from organs of normal animals, especially kidney, or urine from healthy human being, and has a biological activity of inducing lesions of kidney in animals. The lesions of kidney induced by an injection of the glycopeptide are very similar to spectrum of human glomerulonephritis. Accordingly, an experimental model for study on human glomerulonephritis is established.

  • Patent number: 4378093
Abstract: A grinder pump cutter assembly having a pair of cutting blades mounted on the cutter disk which extend at a hook angle to substantially the center of the disk. The blade is multi-surfaced, with the surfaces thereof being angled toward the periphery of the disk to break up centralized matter and disperse it into cutting engagement between the disk and cutter ring. Both the disk and cutter ring are also characterized by bores passing through juxtaposed circumferences thereof. The bores each have a hook angle associated therewith to define the sharpness of the cutting edges and to further provide a turbulence of self-purging action within the bores.

  • Patent number: 4367066
Abstract: An apparatus for displaying and performing a complete set of the sixteen binary connectives in a two-valued notational system, the apparatus comprising at least one device in which at least one combination of a plurality of symbols has been placed in at least one configuration. Each symbol has a shape selected to indicate a selected number of from zero to four components arranged with respect to the quadrants of a set of Cartesian coordinates. The shapes of the symbols have iconicity, eusymmetry, and frame consistency with respect to the quadrants of Cartesian coordinates and the alignments of the shapes of the symbols are symmetry positional with respect to the axes of the Cartesian coordinates. The combination and configuration of the symbols are chosen so that the symbols can be positioned by a selected combination of flips, rotations, and counterchange operations to display and perform all sixteen binary connectives.

  • Patent number: 4365240
Abstract: An attitude change alarm for securing articles from theft or other undesired movement. The alarm includes a case having a wall which defines a hollow interior. Resistive elements are maintained within the wall in spaced relationship with each other and in common communication with an electrically conductive surface on the outside of the wall. An electrically conductive member is fixedly maintained in the hollow interior in constant contacting engagement with a conductive fluid which makes selective engagement with certain of the resistive elements. When the alarm is moved, a current is transmitted from the conductive coating through the resistive elements, fluid, and member, and is passed to a transformer which gates an SCR into conduction, activating the alarm. Various geometrical configurations of the attitude change alarm are presented, each having specific attributes associated therewith.
