Abstract: A primary circuit turns on switching elements and generates energy from a direct-current power supply to a secondary circuit through a transformer. The secondary circuit charges a driven element using the energy obtained from the primary circuit through the transformer, turns on a switching element, discharges the energy accumulated in the driven element, and generates the energy in the primary circuit through the transformer. The primary circuit returns the energy obtained from the secondary circuit to the direct-current power supply.
Abstract: There is disclosed a patterning process comprises at least (1) a step of forming an organic underlayer film on a substrate and then forming a photoresist pattern on the organic underlayer film, (2) a step of attaching an alkaline solution containing an alkaline substance onto the photoresist pattern and then removing the excess alkaline solution, (3) a step of applying a solution of a siloxane polymer crosslinkable by action of the alkaline substance onto the photoresist pattern to form a crosslinked part by crosslinking the siloxane polymer near the photoresist patterns, and (4) a step of removing the uncrosslinked siloxane polymer and the photoresist pattern. There can be provided a patterning process capable of forming a further finer pattern simply and efficiently and with a high practicability applicable to semiconductor manufacturing.

Abstract: The present invention resides in a silicon single crystal growth method of pulling up and growing a single crystal from a melt of a silicon raw material in a quartz crucible based on a Czochralski method, wherein the method comprises the steps of: applying a DC voltage between an outer wall of the quartz crucible acts as a positive electrode and a pulling wire or pulling shaft for pulling up the silicon single crystal acts as a negative electrode; and fixing an electric current flowing through the silicon single crystal over a period of time for pulling up the single crystal, to grow the single crystal; as well as a pulling apparatus therefor.

When a authentication request packet is received from a terminal, when the authentication is successful based on a user ID and a password (affirmative in 34), an HTTP header and user-agent (UA) information are extracted from the packet and an access source IP address is also extracted (36), and user authentication is performed by verifying the access source IP address and the UA information against usage history information (38, 44, and 46) where at most two sets of the IP address and the UA information extracted from the authentication request packet which is received from the same user previously are registered.

The method can be combined or layered with other compression methods to provide additional data compression capability. The method for compressing a mesh model having geometry information and connectivity information of vertices can include defining a first set of vertices having a same connectivity property, determining a subset of the first set of vertices that are encompassed by an area defined by the first set of vertices, and encoding the mesh model without the connectivity information for the subset of the first set of vertices.

Abstract: A novel pharmaceutical application of an extract from a vaccine virus-inoculated and inflamed tissue and relates to a thioredoxin production promoting agent containing the extract as an active ingredient. The extract has an excellent thioredoxin production promoting action against an oxidative stress caused by a stimulus by such as a tobacco smoke extract or hydrogen peroxide and showed a significant lung cell protective effect. Therefore, the pharmaceutical of the invention containing the extract as an active ingredient is highly useful as a preventive or therapeutic agent for a chronic obstructive lung disease considered to be mainly caused by a continuous oxidative stress such as chronic smoking and the pharmaceutical with less side effects and high safety.
Abstract: An optical system is able to achieve a substantially azimuthal polarization state in a lens aperture while suppressing loss of light quantity, based on a simple configuration. The optical system of the present invention is provided with a birefringent element for achieving a substantially circumferential distribution or a substantially radial distribution as a fast axis distribution in a lens aperture, and an optical rotator located behind the birefringent element and adapted to rotate a polarization state in the lens aperture. The birefringent element has an optically transparent member which is made of a uniaxial crystal material and a crystallographic axis of which is arranged substantially in parallel with an optical axis of the optical system. A light beam of substantially spherical waves in a substantially circular polarization state is incident to the optically transparent member.

Abstract: A method of calibrating a measurement scale in a motorized scanning head using a reference artefact is described. The method comprises the step of rotating a surface sensing device, such as a scanning probe, mounted on the scanning head about at least one axis of the scanning head to move the surface sensing device into a plurality of different angular orientations relative to the reference artefact. A step is then performed of measuring, with the surface sensing device, at least one property of the reference artefact at each of the different angular orientations. An error map or function is then created for at least one measurement scale of the scanning head using the properties of the reference artefact measured and optionally known or calibrated properties of that reference artefact. The method may comprise use of co-ordinate positioning apparatus, such as a co-ordinate measuring machine, to move the scanning head. The reference artefact may comprise a single feature or an array of features.
