Abstract: A vacuum degassing and solvent delivery apparatus for those solvents being utilized in high pressure liquid chromatographic operations and/or applications. The degassing and delivery apparatus of the present invention is designed for attachment directly to a solvent reservoir, such as a double-ended bottle having a threaded portion along the bottom end thereof. The arrangement facilitates ease of installation and removal of the vacuum degassing, recycling and delivery apparatus so as to accommodate a variety of installation applications and requirements. The solvent degassing system of the present invention further includes the utilization of an atmospheric impermeable composite tubing structure which is effective for isolating fluids from atmospheric contamination during transport.
Abstract: A door jam or guard for preventing forced entry through a door, the guard including an adjustable tubular brace having an upper tubular member and a lower tubular member telescopically engaged with the upper tubular member, a base pad mounted on the lower end of the tubular brace, a yoke mounted on the upper end of the tubular brace for engaging the door knob on the door, and a lever actuated extension in the upper tubular member for moving the yoke outwardly of the tubular member to seat the yoke against the handle.
Abstract: A control system for a laser catheter device wherein the control system is provided with means for determining the intensity of laser beam energy at two points, one of which is at the distal tip end thereof, and with the other being interposed along a transmitting column remote from both the source of laser beam energy and the distal tip. A beam splitter means(dichroic filter) is provided for diverting a first portion of the laser beam energy onto a first detector means. Energy passing through the beam splitter is ultimately directed onto a fluorescent member or device disposed adjacent the distal tip, with the fluorescent member or means being capable of emitting or generating radiant energy at a wavelength significantly different from that of the incident laser beam energy. The radiant energy generated by the fluorescent means is directed onto a second surface of the beam splitter means, and ultimately onto a second detector means.

Abstract: An outboard motor for a marine craft which incorporates a surface drive heretofore only found with inboard motors. A specially designed constant velocity universal joint is used to pivotally couple the propeller shaft and propeller shaft extension housing to the outboard's lower unit whereby propeller thrust forces are transmitted directly through the propeller shaft to the transmission's output shaft. Furthermore, provision is made for routing engine cooling water and exhaust through the prop shaft extension housing and the propeller hub, thereby reducing the engine noise.
Abstract: A method for fusion bonding a pair of articles consisting of a high melting point thermoplastic material which includes the steps of bringing each surface to be bonded into engagement with the contact surface portion of a heated platen, maintaining the engagement until the surface becomes fused, and thereafter bringing the fused surfaces together in face-to-face relationship until the fused surfaces become solidified. The method further includes the step, in each operative cycle, of abrading the contact surfaces of the platen to renew and expose the metallic surface thereof for engagement with the surface of the next thermoplastic article to be treated.
Abstract: An improved surface drive for a marine craft having an inboard engine in which propeller generated thrust forces are transferred directly and co-linearly from the propeller shaft, through a constant velocity U-joint to the engine or transmission shaft to thereby reduce the overall dimensions of the surface drive unit.
Abstract: A product for inhibiting corrosion of corrodible items within closed containers which comprises a powdered solid composition capable of producing and releasing a vapor phase corrosion inhibiting compound. The powdered composition is enclosed within a sealed envelope which is formed of a sheet material impermeable to the powdered composition, but which is porous to the released vapor phase corrosion inhibiting compound released from the powdered composition. The vapor phase corrosion inhibiting compound produced and released by the powdered composition migrates through the sheet material and permeates the environment of a closed container of corrodible items.

Abstract: An apparatus for heat sealing thermoplastic articles includes a heater movable reciprocably in a longitudinal direction, and two opposed transversely reciprocable and pivotable carriers, each supporting a thermoplastic workpiece to be bonded. Two opposed heating surfaces of the platen heater are inclined and diverge in the longitudinal direction, to give the heater a "V" configuration. The carriers may be pivoted to a corresponding "V" configuration to position each workpiece against an associated heating surface of the platen. Following heating of the workpieces, pneumatic or other force applying cylinders urge the carriers toward one another as the heater is withdrawn from between them. Cam surfaces on the heater cooperate with cam following rollers on the carriers to control the position of the carriers during withdrawal of the heater, and permit rapid and accurate engagement of the thermoplastic articles after withdrawal.
Abstract: A surgical cutting blade for use in an electrosurgical scalpel includes a thin flat ceramic substrate having a rounded tip where the edge portion of the substrate on the opposed major surfaces thereof are beveled. A pattern of metallization is provided on the opposed major surfaces of the blade substrate with the metallization extending over the tapered portions. The substrate is then back-ground to form a blunt edge extending between the tapered surfaces at the edge of the substrate. The metallization pattern further includes traces extending from the conductors along the blunt working edge of the blade to the handle receiving portion thereof and provide a means whereby RF energy may be conducted to the metallized working edge of the blade.

Abstract: A system and circuit for selectively presenting to a display terminal information obtained from a video camera and from a computer terminal so that computer generated graphics information can be superimposed with the camera picture on the face of a display screen. An interface adapter circuit is coupled to the computer's address and data buses and is used to drive a video mixing switch to provide a computer monitor with either computer generated graphics or video information originating at a video camera, with synchronization for the camera provided by the computer terminal.
Abstract: A process for removal and recovery of chromium ions (chromate, dichromate, or combinations thereof) from aqueous waste water of surface treatment phosphatizing solutions and for recycling of the treated waste water following replenishment wherein the aqueous waste water is initially partially clarified in a settling tank, with the effluent then being passed through an ion exchange column for removal of substantially all of the chromium ions therefrom. Following treatment in the ion exchange resin column, the chromium-free material is recharged with a supply of fresh chromium ions until the chrome ion content is at the desired level for metal surface treatment. The spent ion exchange resin columns are removed and replaced, as necessary, with the recharge of the resin columns making additional chromium available as a resource.
Abstract: An adhesive strip-like bandage for application to skin wounds for sealing the wound without surface stitches or staples. The wound closure strips may be fabricated from a bias cut, woven, or non-woven, polymer-based material or other film, exhibiting uni-directional stretch properties which permits the strips to stretch in a controlled manner during wound healing. The strip bandages are detachably mounted to a backing member and in one configuration comprise a comb-like structure.
