  • Patent number: 7641152
Abstract: The movable surfaces affecting the camber of a wing are dynamically adjusted to optimize wing camber for optimum lift/drag ratios under changing conditions during a given flight phase. In a preferred embodiment, an add-on dynamic adjustment control module provides command signals for optimum positioning of trailing edge movable surfaces, i.e., inboard flaps, outboard flaps, ailerons, and flaperons, which are used in place of the predetermined positions of the standard flight control system. The dynamic adjustment control module utilizes inputs of changing aircraft conditions such as altitude, Mach number, weight, center of gravity, vertical speed and flight phase. The dynamic adjustment control module's commands for repositioning the movable surfaces of the wing are transmitted through the standard flight control system to actuators for moving the flight control surfaces.

  • Patent number: 7642230
Abstract: With a simple and high-yield production method, a zinc-containing sustained-release composition capable of stabilizing a physiologically active protein or peptide, typically G-CSF by precipitation and retaining drug efficacy for several days in a living body owing to its sustained releasability is provided. Concretely, a zinc-containing sustained-release composition produced by forming a precipitate by mixing a physiologically active protein or peptide, a water-soluble zinc salt, a water-soluble carbonate and/or a water soluble phosphate aqueous solution. The zinc-containing sustained-release composition may be administered as a zinc-containing sustained preparation by adding a pharmaceutically acceptable additive as is necessary.

  • Patent number: 7638757
Abstract: An optical detection apparatus includes a housing having a circumferential opening therein. A primary mirror reflects light rays to form a first set of light rays to a secondary mirror that has a generally concave shape coupled to the housing. A tertiary mirror having a generally concave shape coupled to the housing spaced apart from the secondary mirror directs light to detection optics that form an image using the third set of light rays. The detection optics include a micro-mirror array that redirect the image to a detector. A controller controls the micro-mirror array and determines an event characteristic based upon the image thereon.

  • Patent number: 7634892
Abstract: Methods of manufacturing reclosable packages having a slider-operated string zipper covered by a tamper-evident shroud that is provided with at least one opening that at least partially exposes the slider. In accordance with one method, openings are formed in a web of packaging material that is folded, placed over the slider-operated string zipper, and attached to the receptacle walls to form a shroud. Preferably, the openings are sized, shaped and situated so that they frame the slider on both sides of the shroud. In accordance with another method, a reclosable package having a slider-operated string zipper and a shroud with openings that at least partially expose the slider can be formed using a single web of packaging material that is folded and sealed to form a shroud that covers the string zipper.

  • Patent number: 7614539
Abstract: A method for forming an aluminum alloy article having improved mechanical properties using a solid-state joining process in which the problem of ductility reduction is minimized by conducting a thermal exposure treatment prior to solution heat treatment. This thermal exposure treatment, done at a temperature below the solution heat treatment temperature, releases stored energy in the aluminum-alloy material. The aluminum-alloy material then does not have sufficient energy to cause recrystallization and abnormal grain growth during the subsequent solution heat treatment process. The resultant aluminum-alloy material has a restored mechanical strength with only a minor, but acceptable, decrease in original ductility.

  • Patent number: 7588655
Abstract: An aircraft stringer lay-up assembly is provided comprising a first mandrel element having a first mandrel material with a first mandrel coefficient of thermal expansion. A composite ply assembly is laid up onto the first mandrel element to generate a primary lay-up surface. The composite ply assembly comprises a first primary fold-over portion folded onto to the first mandrel right end surface. A second primary fold over portion folds over to the first mandrel left end surface. The first mandrel coefficient of thermal expansion is adapted such that the first mandrel is movable between a first mandrel normal condition and a first mandrel heated condition where the first mandrel right end surface and the first mandrel left end surface move away from each other. The first primary fold-over portion and the secondary primary fold over portion are thereby moved such that wrinkles are pulled out of said primary lay-up surface.

  • Patent number: 7585444
Abstract: A method of winding a length of plastic ribbon (such as a zipper of the type used in reclosable packaging) around a cylinder of a spool having a first flange at one end and a second flange at the other end, comprising the following steps: (a) winding the ribbon with a winding tension in a first range when the portion of the ribbon being wound is within a first volume surrounding a central region of the cylinder; and (b) winding the ribbon with a winding tension in a second range when the portion of the ribbon being wound is within second and third volumes surrounding respective portions of the cylinder disposed between the central region and the first and second flanges respectively. To reduce camber in the portions of the wound ribbon disposed in the second and third volumes, i.e., near the respective spool flanges, the upper limit of the second range of winding tension is less than the lower limit of the first range of winding tension, i.e.
